Encyclical Leaked..hows your Italian?(translation needed)

Let's make it clear.

It is the science that is used to inform the encyclical that many people dispute and are criticising.

Man made global warming has not been proven.

From the leaked encyclical it looks like it backs man made global warming as a fact.

We await the real thing on Thursday.

Regardless of the content of the encyclical, it is clear that Pope Francis is taking the advice of scientists on the climate change topic.

Are those who are critical of Francis objecting to the fact that he is taking the advice of the overwhelming majority scientific view, or are they objecting to to him NOT taking the advice of the minority scientific view (the view THEY clearly believe is correct)?

If the Pope accepted the minority view, wouldn't that be an irresponsible position for him to take?

 

What we are objecting too David is the phony LeftWing "scientists", Universities beholden to Government/Tax Payer Grants and FarLeft Politicians and their lick-spittle "Media" that have pushed this Global Warming ... Ops! ... no warming in 20 Years!!?? .... Lets call it Climate Change then!! .... Agenda that is used for nothing else but as another means to control-n-tax citizens and 'spread the wealth" among their crony "Green" Pals. Have you been sleeping the past 10 years David!? Have you not heard of Solyndra and countless other failed "Green" ventures that USA Taxpayers have been "raped" to support! Have you not read news stories of University Scientists "cooking-n-slanting" their data and climate "models"?

Thank you, CreweDog, for at least responding to my questions. I need to point out that, actually, I tend towards the view you and the skeptics hold. But MY VIEWS ARE NOT IMPORTANT!

You hold your views strongly but let's face it, neither you nor I nor those who criticise the Pope in this matter have actually done any significant investigative work on the topic. We need some humility and I believe Pope Francis is showing it in accepting the majority scientific view. The view may be mistaken but he is acting responsibly in refusing to ignore the problem and trying to assess the best scientific view.

 

The last "scientific" thing the vatican got involved with was Galileo. Enough said. I thought the catholic church was about faith, not science.

 

Actually, I was quoting the questions Cardinal George had about 3 issues with the pope. I will be adding my own commentary after I have read the report.

in any regard, in the USA all our rivers and streams are so polluted and toxic to even sip this water or eat the fish from them. Quite a different scenario from our founding Fathers arrival...

Actually no, picadillo. There have been quite a few encyclicals that gave guidance on matters connected with scientific views. And what is more, some involved scientific opinions that ultimately became outdated.

This encyclical is not being written to 'prove' climate change or insist in a belief in it. It is being written to provide guidance to Catholics (and non-Catholics) on the moral response needed to what science is advising is happening and will be happening. The guidance is to be accepted by Catholics but if it turns out that the science proves to have been faulty, then so be it. The Pope will have done his best to advise mankind on their response to these matters.

 

Watching the World over the other day (ewtn) 300 Rabbis took Pope Francis lead to write their own encyclical on the environment for guidance to the Jewish folks, The Pope is shaking things up all over it seems....lol

 

If you feel fear, uncertainty, and doubt about Pope Francis and his intentions, that does not come from heaven and it's not what we're called to do. It's time to be simple, brothers and sisters, simple, humble, obedient children. Innocent as lambs and fierce as lions, right?

Climate change and it's cause as presented by the progressives is a bunch of malarkey. It's beyond clear that the sun and cyclical changes in the normal workings of our earth cause fluctuations, up and down, decades at a time. I agree with that. But what does that have to do with the big picture here?

Don't fall into the trap of letting the media and the wolves snapping at every good thing about our faith and our church to lead you to doubt Pope Francis and doubt God's promise that evil will not prevail against our church. Evil needs only to separate you from the church, then it has you. Don't do it. If relatively unimportant things like the leak of the synod document last year (that turned out to be completely false) and this climate encyclical leak are enough to get you running around in a tizzy questioning our Pope, then what the heck are we going to do when the real chaos starts?

I'm not bright enough to argue the scientific whys and hows of our climate. I am bright enough to know that I have my opinion about it but in the big picture what the heck does my opinion about climate change matter anyway? So I'm best served by just keeping my head down, bowed in prayer, and just stay quiet and let Jesus and Mary lead us through these times so I have my wits about me and am not swept away when the real chaos starts.

Faith people, faith. Don't let the wolves chase you out of the safety of our pack.

The Pope should not be taking either the majority or minority view.

The whole issue of man made global warming as it an area of scientific doubt.

Notice what I said 'man-made global warming'.

There is no such thing as 'climate' science either.

I have read a lot around this subject and there is no scientific consensus with regard to man made global warming.

Is the Catholic Church here on earth to save souls or save the world from climate change?

I don't believe that we are facing catastrophic man made global warming (indeed it is a fact that there was no global warming for eighteen years 1996-2014).

What is the mission of the Church?

St Paul gave the answer 'we preach Christ crucified (1 Corinthians 1 v23).

We await with anticipation what the 'real' encyclical will preach on Thursday!!

 

I recall a few years back when Ron Conte kicked anyone off his CatholicPlanet forum who did not agree with his leftist man-made global warming view. This was after Michael Voris did a detailed YouTube clip on the deceit of it all. A must see for those who believe in man-made global warming.

 

Sorry if I was a bit testy David but I am an Old Curmudgeon and I answered your post while taking a break from what should have been a two hour, max, project but at the end of the day still ain't *%^$#@ done!! Anyway your views Do Matter as that what Blogs are all about!! I am set in my views 'cause I've been able to watch these SOBs "In-Action" for 60+ years and I've watched them "Eat Our Lunch" and get away with it. Our "can't we all get along", compromise, and "give an inch" strategy has, in the USA, given us 55 MILLION ABORTIONS, Christ out of Christmas, God banished from the public square/schools, Gay "marriage" and People of Faith being persecuted and silenced .... and that's just a start. It's past time to Stand and Fight and if our Leaders Civil or Church refuse to do their duty then they better get the Hell out of the way!!

Correct me if I am wrong but the Pope is only infallible on matters of faith and morals, yes? So, if a Pope would write on any scientific subject the charism of infallibility does not cover this, correct? Well, if this is true than why would some people feel upset if he believes that man has caused some global warming? That would merely be a scientific opinion the Pope is taking, right? Well, these are just my thoughts.

Ya see! When you are Pope, President or Prime Minister you must be very careful what you do & say as it may cause confusion and division among The Flock.... and give ammo to enemies. Pope Francis is acting like he is still in Buenos Aries where he could do-n-say as he pleased and nobody outside a 500 mile radius would give a ****!!

Pope urges international agreement on climate change

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Pope Benedict XVI urged international leaders to reach a credible agreement on climate change, keeping in mind the needs of the poor and of future generations.

The pope made the remarks at his noon blessing at the Vatican Nov. 27, the day before officials from 194 countries were to begin meeting in Durban, South Africa, to discuss the next steps in reducing greenhouse gases and stopping global temperatures from rising.

"I hope that all members of the international community can agree on a responsible, credible and supportive response to this worrisome and complex phenomenon, keeping in mind the needs of the poorest populations and of future generations," the pope said.

The meeting, which runs until Dec. 9, is the latest in a series to consider follow-up action to the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, which obligated industrialized countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by a specific amount. The Kyoto Protocol expires at the end of 2012, and the Durban encounter is considered crucial in forging an additional commitment period.

The goal of the talks organized by the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change is to cut greenhouse gases by 50 percent by 2050 and prevent temperatures from rising more than 2 degrees Celsius.

Honduran Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga, president of Caritas Internationalis, was leading a 20-person Caritas delegation to the Durban talks to press for an agreement on behalf of poor countries that have been severely impacted by climate change.

"Our climate is changing. Caritas organizations are responding to increasing unpredictability and extreme weather conditions experienced around the world. This year we saw floods in Central America, South and Southeast Asia and drought across East Africa," Cardinal Rodriguez said in a statement released by Caritas.

"Urgent action is necessary. Climate negotiators in Durban must not further delay agreeing to international legislation to curb the threat of climate change and set the world on a path to a more just and sustainable future," he said.

In 2011, East Africa suffered the worst drought in half a century. Caritas noted that drought was not new in East Africa, but said changes in weather patterns combined with lack of investment, competition for land and water have eroded the capacity of local people to cope.

"The whole world is vulnerable to climate change, but poor countries are affected more," Cardinal Rodriguez said. "Africa is one of the most vulnerable continents to the impacts of climate change. Africans are taking a stand in Durban; it is time for the world to stand with Africa."

Before leaving for Durban, Cardinal Rodriguez took several thousand young Italian members of a Franciscan environmental group to the Vatican for a lively encounter with the pope.

The pope told them that the church's teaching on the environment follows from the principle that men and women are collaborators with God and his creation. The lessons of responsible stewardship over natural resources are increasingly important, he said.

"In fact, it is by now evident that there is no good future for humanity or for the earth unless we educate everyone toward a style of life that is more responsible toward the created world," he said.

He said education toward environmental responsibility must begin in families and schools and must reflect the church's teaching that respect for the human being -- in all stages of life -- goes hand in hand with respect for nature.

In a pastoral letter, the Southern African Catholic Bishops' Conference asked people to urge South Africa's government, which is chairing the Durban meeting, to support resolutions "based not on immediate economic needs only, but on the survival needs of future generations."

Noting that South Africa is the world's 13th-highest global emitter of carbon dioxide, the bishops said the country should pledge "much higher targets of renewable energy production by phasing out coal and nuclear production and by developing the job creation potential of renewable energy."

The bishops also called on people "to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by using your own properties productively to grow trees that will absorb carbon dioxide, to grow vegetables and crops organically to reduce the use of chemical-based fertilizers, and to share the food thus grown with the hungry and malnourished in your midst."
