    Hi Brian,

We've been down this road before and I'm not going down it again with you. All I will say us labels such as "Catholic lite" are very myopic given we are a a Universal, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. We are on the same team but approaching and viewing things differently. I wish you peace.

Your Patheos bloggers throw out far worse labels all the time. I hope you have the same indignation for their offenses.

    Peace.

Sometimes when I read posts that are strict, unbending, ridgid to their own interpretations it reminds me of our Lords condemnations of the Pharisees. Orthodoxy is one thing, but to continue to squelch the workings of the Holy Spirit with ones own mindset is very dangerous to the soul. Prudence is a virtue in discernment and it is not foreign to working outside the box we often try to put God in. Its worth praying about lest we live by the law of personal convictions rather than the movements of the Holy Spirit. Doctrines (teachings on faith and morals) can never change, but all else we must discern in the light of the Holy Spirit, lest we are limiting God himself.

Working with abortion advocates and rabid population controllers in writing and promulgating an encyclical is not cooperating with the Holy Spirit, it is cooperating with evil.

Trying to suppress opposition to this cooperation with evil by deliberatiely mislabeling it as Pharisaical is not a work of the Holy Spirit either.

Address delivered by Fr. Fulton Sheen on February 7, 1937.

In today's broadcast, the subject of which is Spirituality, it is hoped to prove that the world crisis can be healed only by forces not directly involved in the crisis itself. A sick man, for example, must rely on medicine for his cure; a ship must anchor outside itself; an eagle can fly only by the aid of something non-eagle, namely, the air. In like manner, modern civilization cannot lift itself out of the chaos by the boot straps of the economic and the political, but only by a power other than the political and the economic and therefore something not directly involved in its ruin. Important as the political and the economic are, it is still more important to hearken back to Our Lord’s plan of social reconstruction through spiritual regeneration. His method was to make economic and social justice the byproduct of Christian living. He reminds us that a purely secular civilization cannot save itself, because natural man has not sufficient moral strength to sacrifice himself for the common good. That is why He saved the world by dying for it--to teach us that without Him and His Spirit of Sacrifice we could do nothing. That too is why He gathered around Himself a group of men whom He imbued with totally different ideals than the world and radically different means to attain those ideals. "I have chosen you out of the world", He said; and He literally lifted them physically out of the world by putting them in a desert place apart, and spiritually out of the world by imbuing them with a new spirit and the primacy of things Divine. "Seek ye therefore first the kingdom of God, and his justice, and all these things shall be added unto you.” When He had regenerated them and made them new with the fires of His Spirit, He sent them back again into the world - but they were no longer the same men. They were different men.

That is why He said: "If the world hate you know you that it hath hated me before you. If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, therefore the world hateth you.” More than this, He told them they were to risk everything on His way of living, to be prepared to be hated by brother and sister, father and mother, to be dragged before magistrates and kings, and even to be led to death. There was to be no turning back, for any man putting his hand to the plow and looking back was fit for the Kingdom of God. The dead were to bury their dead, but they were to follow Him by taking up their cross daily, that is, by being prepared to lead an absolutely selfless life for the glory of God and the salvation of souls.

Did not Jesus work with, speak with, dine with sinners and even knowingly and willingly choose a traitor for an Apostle? Serioisly, you are judging His Vicar for doing the same! Has he changed doctrine? You may want to consider this as you make a conscience choice to work against His Vicar. Be warned.

You're comparing Jesus calling sinners to repent and believe to the Vicar of Christ consulting population control and abortion proponents in how to address environmental issues in a papal encyclical ? And in the same breath tell someone else to "Be warned?" Do not judge lest ...

Jesus consulted with Satan himself, but did not give in to his lies. I recall a rich man approach the Lord and said he had done everything the Lord God asked of him. Yet after this consultation the Lord mde one more condition, "go and give everything you have to the poor and the man went away sad for his posessions were many". Scripture does not tell us if he heeded the Lords request. I think it is very unwise to suggest that consultation with sinners is your benchmark for a persons character. The healthy do not need a doctor, so that is why our Lord and his Vicar go to the sick in spirit.

IS THERE A 21ST CENTURY NAZI INFORMING THE PAPAL ENCYCLICAL?
Looks can be deceiving, but they’re usually revealing

    Catholic Culture reveals:

The Holy See Press Office has confirmed that Pope Francis’s second encyclical will be entitled Laudato Si (Praised Be), a reference to St. Francis of Assisi’s Canticle of the Sun.

The press office also announced the encyclical’s subtitle (“on the care of our common home”) and the names of those who will be presenting the encyclical at its June 18 release.

Joining Cardinal Peter Turkson, the president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, will be Orthodox Archbishop John Zizioulas of Pergamon, who will represent the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, and Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, the director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and chairman of the German Advisory Council on Global Change.

Hans Joachim Schellnhuber: This is the same ‘scientist’ who called for a maximum world population of 1 billion. He’s said that, if global warming killed off most of the world’s billions, ‘in a very cynical way,’ we would at least have achievedbalance. He’s predicted the Earth will soon explode at current population growth rates so they must be curbed, and he’s warned German Chancellor Merkel about the greater need for ‘lebensraum,’ a term the Nazis once used for greater room to expand the master race

These are insidious causes and frightening statements to hear from one of the very few people selected advise the Vatican, and to present an encyclical from the Vicar of Christ.

I for one will wait to read the actual encyclical to pass judgment. Pope Francis is a cunning leader and for all we know he is hearing all sides so that he can speak more broadly about the issues he wishes to address. When one narrows their input they also narrow their arguments against wrong thinking. Unless Jesus had spent considerable time with the Scribes and Pharisees he would not have had the authority he did when he called them out as hypocrites, frauds, vipers etc....

Give our Holy Father a break, he is guided by the Holy Spirit more so than any other living human being. Best to pray for him.

In Matthew 10:16, the Lord Himself gives this instruction to his apostles:

"Look, I am sending you out like sheep among wolves; so be cunning as snakes and yet innocent as doves."

My question is who are the wolves that Francis needs to watch out for?

All I will say is from my perspective, the commentary about/against The Vicar of Christ in this thread goes beyond voicing concern or even legitimate dissent to accusatory with even one post linking him to a cooperation with evil! Debate/discussion is fine, but when it moves to this level as it has done here then it becomes scandalous IMO.

What bible do you use Miker?

Scandal is certainly a word we should look at more deeply . Perhaps a thread on it might be useful.

I actually think we need a thread about 'judgement' and 'judging others'.

How do we judge with a 'right judgement' (John 7 v24).

I will pray about it over the weekend and perhaps start a thread on it.
