So... @Border collie has thrown down the gauntlet and challenged us all to make a 3-day pilgrimage of reparation to Lough Derg.

This would be a group effort by forum members to make atonement and reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, for the grave offences of our country.

So who is in, and when?

Border collie, do you have any information on how to go about booking the pilgrimage?

  2. As far as I know, there is no need to pre book a place, although I did the first time I went. When I got to the booking desk there were people who did not book, just paid (€70) and hopped on the boat! You can leave your car beside the booking office. The phone no. 071 986 1518.

  3. At the moment, I would only be able to go anytime from now to the end of June or around 8th august onwards. The season closes on 13th August.

I'm hoping to be there for the weekend of July 25 & 26 - just not sure if I'll be there for the Friday before or the Monday after to make up the 3 days.
Details of organized pilgrimages there are on this link

Mick Sammon who organizes a bus from my area, was recently phoned by the priest on the island to try to encourage more people to go there.

Last year when I was there at the opening Mass at the start of the vigil I was already falling asleep. I seriously considered my ways to get off the island and I'm pretty sure that if it wasn't an island I would have been outta there by midnight!
But God is good, He gives sufficient grace.

Julia Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

Adoremus, hope you get a great response to your planned pilgrimage.

Will keep an eye here for a definite date and not rule out attempting to find a way to get there.

Having an ongoing illness which restricts my energy greatly, and medication which has to be taken with food. I wonder how that would affect the fasting side.

There doesn't seem to be any steep climbing ie as in mountains or anything. So a gammy leg would not be an obstacle. LOL

It looks like you just have to stay awake all night once only?

We already are committed to a mini pilgrimage to Aylesford for 16th July in honour of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, so end of July would be unlikely for me.

Will certainly be there in spirit if not in body.

Saint Patrick, please pray for more penitents to come to your island of repentance and atonement.

  7. I feel perhaps you should not attempt it Julia, while there are no hills or climbing, some of the stones in the "beds"can be quite slippery if it rains and some are on an incline. Also taking meds could be a problem. You could always do a one day after August 13th, you are already doing penance and the Lord always meets us where we are at!

You know I have been thinking and praying about the pilgrimage.

In God there are no accidents. Maybe this pilgrimage is not an accident, perhaps Our Lady is calling us together at this time. Things are very difficult.

I would encourage folks to take this to Mary in prayer and if the Spirit guides you so, to come.

I don't think we have all that much time left for things like this.

We all lead busy lives , with much claims on our times, but sometimes we have to respond and leave aside some time for God. Mary has plans.

I believe the pilgrimage is part of those plans.

    There are no accidents...

It will be difficult for me to fit in a date.

But if God wills I too will go.

Not at least in the spirit of reparation and repentance for the sins of the Irish nation.

Going to try and go, praying to go but with such a young family its looking doubtful... you never know, August date is a possibility.

  11. I'm inclined to agree with you Padraig. I was speaking to a friend yesterday and I asked her if she would like to join in doing lough derg. She replied saying a priest friend had already asked her to go... for exactly the same reasons as us!

  17. Ok guys, how about June 22nd to 24th, one could also do a novena in the preceding days to St. John the Baptist, as his ministry included calling all to penance.
