News just in that the American journalist James Foley has been beheaded by ISIS. He had been held captive since 2012. http://www.freejamesfoley.org/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-28862268 I think he looks at peace. Pray for his soul.
Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
Disgusting. Barbaric was a word that was thrown around when a certain woman had a C section in Dublin recently to save the life of a child. I hope now those pro abortion supporters look at these beheading pictures, and maybe together with a really good dictionary, learn what 'barbaric' truly means. I hope, after reading the tweets of pro death people saying the C section was a result of a "Catholic Sharia State", that the same pro death people can stretch themselves to learn two new things in one day, and find out how stupid the comparison is. Good help that poor man whose death was truly horrific and lonely. I'll offer my rosary today for him. Nobody deserves to die like that, no matter who they are or what they've done. Disgusting. God have mercy on the murderer too, truly, he knows not what he does.
The Chaldean Archbishop of Mosul has warned that Christians around the world would face suffering from Islamists as his diocese has, and decisions that challenge the underpinnings of Western political ideas. "Our sufferings today are the prelude of those you, Europeans and Western Christians, will also suffer in the near future," Archbishop Emil Nona told Italian daily Corriere della Sera Aug. 9 2014 from Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan.
Michael Brown links to a piece which suggests that James Foley was Catholic and prayed the rosary - his mother certainly does. Chillingly, I saw on the BBC news the murderer has a British accent. The words of the Archbishop of Mosul will come to haunt us. The 70,000+ Iraqi Christians have been suffering and dying and the West and its celeb-obsessed media ignored it, now this killing will mean that the West cannot go on looking away. I keep thinking of that five-year old boy cut in two in front of his father. I wonder if the killer was another 'Briton'?
The saddest thing for me was not just his death but so many people tuning in to watch it on utube. Sadder still according to the BBC many many young Muslims on twitter and such have been gloating about it. Some times words fail....I am happy he was close to God. Poor man. Rest in Peace.
Slain journalist James Foley on praying the rosary in captivity August 20, 2014 08:45 EST http://www.catholicworldreport.com/...foley_on_praying_the_rosary_in_captivity.aspx
After reading this and other accounts, I firmly believe this man was a martyr for the faith. I read elsewhere that he volunteered himself to go first ahead of the other prisoners.
I am so sad for his family and I do believe that he is a martyr for the faith- in prayer last night I prayed for him of course but also that he would pray for us in these troubled times. Makes me think of St. Maximilian Kolbe.
The pope called his parents today which must have helped them. He was very brave. He did not fail the test. I hope that if I am tested in the same way I may be as brave. But he set the bar pretty high.
May God have mercy on that man. I think that Archbishop is right - what we are seeing now from Islam will be at our doors soon.
What about the things he said about the USA being his real killers.......does that negate him being a martyr?
I didn't watch the video, but read that he was given a prepared statement by his captors. He didn't deny his faith as far as I can tell.
Why did he read it if he knew they were going to kill him anyway? Was he really killed because of his faith, or was he killed because he was an American?
Keep in mind , when you have been held captive for 2 years, you are obviously forced to do things against your will. He may not thought this time they were going to kill him, because he was threatened with death many times, and then they didn't follow through, its a form of torture, and breaking someones mental strength. He was regularly tortured ( as his fellow captives claimed yesterday ) because he was American ( not for being Christian ),for policies of the American Government.
Yes you are right, Glenn.....being captive and tortured for so long would do that. I have no doubt about his faith, but if he was killed for being an American, he wouldn't be considered a martyr, right?
