I was an admiring and actual acquaintance of Malachi Martin
To keep this short, ultimately, I shifted my 'admiration' much more fully on over to God / Jesus..
No one, not even saints (who always point one to "focus upon God/Jesus!") have ever been perfect.
Scriptural Prophesies - carry solid undeniable weight over private revelations, and opinions - no matter how "knowledgeable" and well written.

Indeed, and there were and are many such examples throughout the history of the Church....

My mother used to say to us children, 'If you believe all you hear you'll eat all you see!' Not that I would ever disbelieve a senior CIA officer. There are so many holes in what he said you could use it as a fishing net.

Father Harden never believed in Malachi. The Father's cause is going forward in Rome for sainthood. We Irish are great story tellers, but we never let the truth get in the road of a tall tale. The taller the better. We don't ever think of it as lying, just entertainment.

I would take Malachi's claims very lightly. Not as a liar , just like someone like Alex Jones. Just a performing artist. I enjoy listening to and watching the man, but that is as far as it ever goes. A good entertainer.
It reminds me of the tall tales the Irish used to tell each other in the Appalacian Mountains.

I have always felt a little reserve when it comes to Father Malachi. He certainly had a good insight in how the Church works and some people for whom I would have great respect, for example the late Wolfgang Smith, had time for him. Yet, he seemed to like the attention, producing a book about Exorcism (which I have never had the courage to read, whereas I have no difficulty reading Father Amorth) at the time of the exorcism craze following the release of the film 'Exorcist'...then, there's that book 'Jesus Now'.

He is very entertaining and sometimes enlightening, but there are too many unanswered questions. It would be better to rely on Father Harden, in a crunch.

Father Harden was wonderful. Up there with Fulton Sheen and Mother Angelica. All saints. All prophetic. You could trust every word that came out of their mouths. Few, even of his most ardent supporters have ever claimed Malachi was a saint.

It is all the difference between walking on a solid oak floor and walking on a termite eaten balsa wood floor.

I am fond of Malachi. He was so entertaining. But I could never ever take him too seriously. I suppose some of the things he said must have been true, inevitably, but how to tell which?

Fr Hardon is as reliable as they come. And from all reports a very holy priest.
With Malachi Martin it is wise to " take the meat and leave the bones" as they say.
He had a real grasp of the spiritual and political forces at work in the Church. But he remains an enigma.

Fr Hardon strongly disapproved of Medjugorge. That has always given me pause.

His book on exorcism is terrifying. The first time I tried to read it I had to put it down. I felt something dark. Later I read it with no problem. But still very disturbing.

I honestly don't know where the skpeticism towards Fr. Malachi Martin comes from. There's nothing sensational about his claims or his background. If anyone hears his public interviews, he speaks with knowledge and authority, substantiated by Catholic dogma and tradition. I think some people are confusing his gift of eloquence with some sort of questionable purple prose or sensationalism.

Besides, I think people should take a step back and meditate on what is required of a successful exorcist (which he was): piety, humility, faith. The opposite of pride.

That's not at all the reason why he wrote the book. He wrote the book precisely because it was at that time that many churchmen, and consequently many Christians, no longer believed in the Devil, or demons, or Hell (or even Purgatory). And above all to emphasise the reality and heavy cost of demonic possession, contrary to the Hollywood entertainment fantasy.

So did Fr. Malachi Martin. He did believe in Garabandal and often contrasted the two:

He was a nice man and I am sure said many true and good things. I am fond of him still

I would not want to get into a big argument about him one way or another in case I upset his fans. But I am curious. Do you really believe he was an actual Cardinal?

A lot of good people share his opinion. It would not necessarily be any reflection of his saintliness.

Interesting I just came across a new book released on Malachi Martin.

CIA operations officer Robert Marro Jr. pens a gripping memoir about his close friend and confidante, the famed enigmatic exorcist, bestselling author, and Vatican insider Malachi Martin.

In this riveting firsthand account, Robert Marro Jr. pulls back the veil on the life of the mysterious and controversial Reverend Dr. Malachi Martin. Over the course of their decade-long friendship, Martin revealed secretive details of the Vatican’s efforts to combat Stalinist Iron Curtain governments during the Cold War. Martin also revealed to Marro previously unknown details of the controversial Third Secret of Fatima, which to date has still not been fully disclosed, despite Vatican protestations to the contrary. Marro also sets the record straight on Martin’s status as an ex-Jesuit priest and alleged womanizer. Martin was not only a renowned exorcist who literally fought the demons of Hell—he was a Dead Sea Scrolls archeologist, Cold War Vatican spy, and advisor to three popes. In Malachi Martin, Marro pulls back the curtain on the only priest who could legitimately be called “The Indiana Jones of the Catholic Church.”
