What happened in Ireland in the 70s? As I said before, I like statistics, I was thinking of asking this question earlier, but now it came to me. I look at the number of nuns in Ireland and from the peak of over 13,000, the number almost halved to just over 8,000 from 1971-1981. I understand that there was the Second Vatican Council, that there was a period of sexual revolution, the growth of technology, TV and rock, GDP growth etc. However, in 1995, Ireland voted practically 50%-50% in a referendum to allow divorce. So it can be said without any doubt that it was quite conservative until the 2000s. I also don't understand the sudden decline of priests from 1996 to 2001. Are there any special reasons or events that happened for such a decline in priestly and religious vocations? For those who are interested, here is a lot more information and data, as well as pictures and graphs. https://www.researchgate.net/public...ers_of_Religious_in_Ireland_from_1926_to_2021
https://www.zerohedge.com/geopoliti...overnment-and-ngos-created-gay-pride-thin-air Above is a link to a damning report on USAID. The head of this organisation during the Biden administration was Samantha Power, born in London of Irish parents and raised in Ireland. If one notes her picture in the Zerohedge report or in herWikipedia entry, her face is a study in misery. Now, we know where this sudden rise in perversion propaganda in the last fifteen years or so originated. Follow the money. This was no spontaneous grass-roots movement, but one financed and directed from the very top. Now, organisations relying on this ill-gotten slush fund, such as 'Stonewall' in the UK, are going to have to close. There are going to be less Pride Marches and Pride Months too, without the money for the rent-a-crowd. I wonder was USAID promoting veganism for a while? This fad was very prominent in Ireland, up to a few years ago, but has almost disappeared-obviously, the funding ran out. Please God, the same will happen all these perversion fads.
Similar things have come to light here. There are probably similar financing structures in all western countries. Non-governmental organizations sponsored by governments, lol... I have to smile at some of the things that were declared as development aid... "44 million € for cycle paths in Peru" is one such example from my country...
I thought long and hard about this down the years and I think a lot of the answers can be found with the The Jews the Chosen People in the Old Testament. They followed God and then they deserted Him over and over again. What was the trigger that caused them to flock to Him and what the trigger that caused them to desert Him? I think the trigger was that they thought they had it too good and reckoned they did not need Him. The trigger that brought them back was when their material wrold collapsed and desperate they ran back to Him for help. This is not the first time that the Irish deserted God. At around the same time the English invaded Ireland the Monastries had become very, very corrupt from having things too good. Centuries of English/ Protestant rule brought the Irish to their knees and back to God with a vengeance. It was the exact same thing in Eastern Europe under Soviet Rule. It purified the Church and made it stronger. Just so when the asteroid hits and Ireland is flooded the cycle will start all over again. Back to God.
Thank you for this Orangina- just downloaded the PDF at the link. Looks very useful! I don't have much time to comment right now, but I'll quickly paste in some text from my Cor Jesu Sacratissimum book (on Ireland and more) that is relevant here and perhaps of interest: This integral Catholic culture—something of it can be glimpsed in a national survey of the Irish Republic from as late as 1973–1974. That survey found over ninety percent of Catholics went weekly to Mass and nearly forty-seven percent went to confession once a month—whereas ninety-seven percent prayed daily. Seventy-five percent of those sur- veyed put up holy pictures or statues in the home. Furthermore, around a quarter of the population went to Mass more than once a week and a similar proportion went to confession once a week or more!1 Cynics have tried to paint this extraordinary religiosity as largely social control in a culture where Church and State were closely linked. According to them, Irish Catholics simply did what was expected of them by a rigid, hierarchical society. This is often attended by notions of the Catholic Irish as docile and priest-ridden—without the slightest consciousness of the docile, media-ridden culture everywhere in the West today. What this cynicism misses is how much Irish religiosity exceeded the expectations of the Church. For example, the Church expects yearly confession of us—not more. The Church certainly does not expect weekly confession. And yet twenty-nine percent of the Irish population went weekly or more! The Church imposes no obligation to put up holy images or statues. Yet seventy-five percent of the population said they did. Yes, all kinds of explanations are given as to why the Irish were reli- gious—but never how the Sacramental Miracle of the Holy Church might have been operating in their souls! Why did Ireland lose its religiosity? How many different theories I read, including, but not limited to, urbanization, Globalization, industrialization, the scandal of sexual abuse, the power of media elites. But never do I read things like the soul-transforming power of the Church ebbing away after Vatican II. This is not to deny the above theories, dear Lector. But they remain incomplete if one stubbornly ignores the Catholic Mystery. In what follows, then, we will ponder not only the Sacra- ments, but also the sacramentals—for example, the Rosary, Holy Water, and the image of His Sacred Heart, which once featured in Irish homes everywhere. This is, again, taken from my own book, pg. 383. But I also go into these matters in my videos too.
Robert Nugent needs our prayers as he has made a full frontal attack on a video released by the church in Ireland on the synodal pathway. Robert is a prophetic voice. I endorse every word he says in his video.
Yes I listened to Roberts take on the synodical presentation. The video is not very inspiring and I know that in our Diocese people are not interested in getting involved. I think it's probably Diocesan employees that go to synodical meetings. When I hear words like diversity and inclusivity I switch off. Yes Robert is sailing close to the wind. He recently criticised SPXS and now taking on the bishops on their synodality presentations. Every thing he says is true but yes pray for him.
I agree any time when in responding to the Holy Spirit, faithful Catholics refuse a path of compromise. Pray that I refuse to follow the broad and easy path, especially in my homilies for I'll surely be responsible before God! Matthew 7:13 Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
I think one great immunisation against all this is that it is just so boring. No ordinary person is keen on going to meetings.
I was just reading about Blessed Columba Marmion again last night. A wonderful modern Irish saint and yet so few Irish people know about his. Also a great writer. “Enter more and more into the great silence. Silence: (a) of the tongue; (b) of the movements of the passions; (c) of reasons and reflections on the manner in which others act. Leave that to our Heavenly Father. I am finding great peace of soul now that I do not allow myself to be concerned with the doings of others, as far as my duty as abbot permits. I speak of these things to the Heavenly Father, as the Psalmist constantly does. Then that becomes a prayer which makes peace and silence only the more profound.” ― Columba Marmion, With Christ: An Anthology of the Writings of Blessed Columba Marmion
This is an excellent video with john waters. I would advise anyone to watch it. It was just live on YouTube and is very informative about what is happening in Ireland at the moment https://www.youtube.com/live/YE1EhV8IfP8?si=fwoCZ1SsMS_eU3je
Pity Tucker didn't interview John Waters instead of Conor McGregor. God help McGregor. He is delusional. It's hard to understand how Trump seems to take him seriously. John Waters is truly a man of integrity.
I read a report in the Journal (a very anti-Catholic online 'news' outlet), this morning, about a Donegal priest remanded in Derry for ’sexual communication with a child'. Has anyone heard about this?
this graph may potentially indicate a correlation of the decline in vocations with the Novus Ordo Missae
Yes, I know of him as had been a priest in my family's home parish for a few years. I was at several of his masses when at home visiting my parents years ago. He was caught by one of those "p-file" hunter groups in a sting operation. They had a file of evidence for the police and seems the priest thought he had been texting a 15 year old boy and arranged a meet up. He told the 'teenager' he was gay and wanted to know if he was gay too? He also sent explicit videos of himself to the 'teenager'. I feel sick to the stomach but happy he's in custody as he is a clear & present danger to children. https://greencastleparish.com/history/about-fr-edward-gallagher/ https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.derrydiocese.org/news/statement-from-bishop-mckeown?format=amp Interesting to see he had been sent to Belize for a few years - I wonder was that a sideways move if there had been previous allegations or rumours?
I don't like the way it is reported. The description of the victim being a 'child', rather than a 'fifteen year old boy' is going to conjure up a different image altogether for the general public, who will mostly not enquire any deeper and lets the sodomites off the hook.
