    I understand that family life is essential in God's plan and many married mother's and father's have become great saints. I know what you are saying PotatoSack. I could not imagine my life without my children and wife. Being a father and husband does not allow for much solitude, but it does make you pray allot. I use to think that if I learned and shared my Catholic faith well, that my kids would not loose their faith. Well, 30 years later and 11 kids later I realized that this was vain thinking. Now life and grace have made me realize that I can do nothing without God and that knowledge is not a virtue. I have come to realize the only thing I can do is pray and do penance. Wish someone would have told me this 30 years ago, because it would saved me eating humble pie years later (y)

    Yes, it is hard, but then at least you are somewhat mentally prepared for the chastisements that are coming. There are so many people that won't understand and won't know quite what to think. And though it is nice to have a spouse when you are in agreement, it is not so good when you are in conflict over what is happening and what the best course of action to take is. I know that when the December 23rd series of Earthquakes hit us here in Christchurch, (the epicentres of which were located just offshore in Pegasus Bay), there was a lot of bickering between couples, both old & young, over the next 6 weeks of constant aftershocks, as to what they should do in the event of a possible tsunami. No one could sleep properly at night- that didn't help. Everyone's nerves were frayed and on edge. The wife, for example would say they should flee and escape the tsunami but the husband would say, no, if there is another huge quake offshore, we are not leaving this house- we are going upstairs to escape the water from a height. Whereas at least if it is just you, you can make up your own plan and you do not have small children depending on you for your survival. You can make decisions now in preparation & relocate if you feel that God is urging you to do that. Because you are alone, and it is hard, you can always pray and ask St Joseph to be your guide and guardian. He will never fail you. If you have great devotion to him, all will be well and in the end, you will not even fear death itself.

    On the one hand, it is like a polarization is happening between those that are "literally hypnotized" or "seduced" by the perverted social justice manifestation known as "liberal socialism" (democrats), and those that oppose the imposition of the super-dependency nanny state (republicans and independents). People who are "aware" can see the new form of communism evolving here, and naturally oppose it.

    On the other hand, however, people who are "really aware" can see that the opposing force politically in this country (conservatism) is also subservient to the global power that has sold out to the demonic, and is being used as a "tool" to distract us from the final agenda. Yes this side (conservatism) is on the right side of the abortion, gay marriage, and individual rights issues, yet they are playing the stooge in economic policies (pandering to corporations that exploit slave labor globally....as Hilliare Belloc predicted in "Crisis of Civilization" in the 1930's), and also in bolstering the narrative of our phony foreign policy (driven by our incessant beating of the terror drum, and our "need" to combat it globally).....

    Manipulation and mendacity (lie upon lie upon lie) to no end....

    Those reports of the "CFR-infused" Hart-Rudman Commission (from 1999 and 2000 under Bill Clinton) that I posted on an earlier thread are ample evidence to the power behind the power that resulted in the same US foreign policy regardless of party in power from 1999-2013. It is enough to cause us to question every terror narrative since 1999, and to disbelieve the stories sold to us via media: Columbine, 9-11, Aurora Colorado, Sandy Hook, Boston Marathon, Navy Yard shooting, Kenya......

    Worship of police and militarized law enforcement "heroes" is out of control here. They are constantly elevated to a status above the rest of us, and assumed to have "more dignity"... That is why brutality and abuse of power is running rampant.

    And Senator Tom Harkin is another 'catholic' pro-abortion politician, who offers nothing but socialist ideology. What is dangerous is politicians who are so void of moral law that all of their other decisions are bankrupt of good judgment as well. Harkin is an example of a politician being blind in sin and yet thinks he has the chrism to see what is good for the US. God help us!

    Jon, you can't pin the "playing the stooge in economic policies (pandering to corporations that exploit slave labor globally.." on Republicans only. Dem's are head over hills in doing the same thing, they just lie about it and say it is a Republican thing, all the while pandering to big labor unions who are keeping 'slave labor' alive. I also disagree that the Republican party represents 'conservatism'. There hasn't been a conservative Republican in the Presidency since Ronald Regan in the 80's . There are some Republican's beating the drum of terror, but keep in mind it is Obama and Kerry who are lead drummers this time around in this regard.

    I like how you say "hypnotized" or "seduced". My in-laws are thi way. They are life-long Catholics, would never think of missing Mass, go to Adoration every week, yet they are enamored with President Obama. My father-in-law actually thinks of him as a Biblical figure sent by God in our time of need!!! They love him and think he can do no wrong. I ask them about the abortion issue, and they say we can't vote just based on that, and I said what about the 4000 babies killed every day in the US by abortion, and they said they think more than that die every day from being poor. They are seriously deluded.

    John,

    You are spot on. It is like Michael Savage says, "a one party system playing two card Monty". Bush/Clinton/Obama... the same .... The right has its gate-keepers such as Bill O'Reilly and John Mcain and ALL the Bush family! Don't believe there is no difference (just say so and I will prove it). Obama kept the SAME war people and money people in his cabinet as Bush. Bush is a skull and bones member, HELLOOOO. It's almost over for the American experiment, as the banksters have almost all but taken over. Obama is for a baby being born, and then being killed!!! Heidi, you have to be totally ignorant to not think Obama is NOT an antichrist. Now the rest of the world knows why catholicism is almost dead, like Fr Hardon said, here in the USA.

  13. I stayed up until the wee hours listening to Senator Cruz. And the Senator from Utah. I felt like I was listening to another Abe Lincoln...the American people have no idea what is coming down the pike....God have mercy! Today (Saturday) Sen. Cruz is praying in front of the White House.

    I know Catholic families who will die when this Obamacare is fully implemented. This is huge and people don't care nor do they have a clue. The trickle down effect is going to be a tsunami and then the violence is going to kick in. Every American on this forum should be signed up for the 40 days for life. No excuses! It's PROVEN to close down the abortion mills...! Even if its a half hour! Do it!

    It is as useless for a European trying to understand American politics as an American to try to understand European. :)
    I suspect though that this is spiritual in origin and a battle is going on for your Nation's soul. That it's not really a row over money or Finances but something much deeper.

    My brother for instance moved to the States man years ago ,got married and had four children now. One thing he always said about America is its huge sense of freedom. We don't really have that in Europe in the same way. Off course we love freedom but not in so wide and deep and individualistic a way. Also the fliying of the Stars and Stripes everywhere , we love our countries yes, but not in an uncritical way and flags seem to be usually only flow from Government buildings.

    Also I would say in Europe there is a deeply ingrained scepticism and agnosticism about God. Not so much that people do not believe more that they simply do not care, this would be considered, I think in America to be unAmerican, as would our attitudes to things like Patriotism.

    I think though that both for Europe and America and all Nations the key to understanding lies in the spiritual and of I was looking for a Key it would be in Scripture in the Word of God, in the experiences of the Chosen People.

    They found God, then lost Him, then found Him again and then lost Him. Their experience was that in as much as a people follow God they are blessed and in as much as they leave God they leave His blessings.

    When we say , 'God bless' our country we must know God cannot Bless that which is displeasing to Him.

    It was the same for Ireland. Ireland became very rich for a short period there. Although it has always been one of the worlds poor countries. But as soon as we found prosperity we forsook God. Now we are plunged back into poverty. I must say I would rather be poor and seeking God than rich and forsaking Him. That what looked like a disaster was actually a Blessing. A mercy.

    This too was the experience of the Hebrews.

    Psalm 51[a]

    For the director of music. A psalm of David. When the prophet Nathan came to him after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba.

    1 Have mercy on me, O God,
    according to your unfailing love;
    according to your great compassion
    blot out my transgressions.
    2 Wash away all my iniquity
    and cleanse me from my sin.
    3 For I know my transgressions,
    and my sin is always before me.
    4 Against you, you only, have I sinned
    and done what is evil in your sight;
    so you are right in your verdict
    and justified when you judge.
    5 Surely I was sinful at birth,
    sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
    6 Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb;
    you taught me wisdom in that secret place.
    7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;
    wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
    8 Let me hear joy and gladness;
    let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
    9 Hide your face from my sins
    and blot out all my iniquity.
    10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,
    and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
    11 Do not cast me from your presence
    or take your Holy Spirit from me.
    12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
    and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
    13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
    so that sinners will turn back to you.
    14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God,
    you who are God my Savior,
    and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.
    15 Open my lips, Lord,
    and my mouth will declare your praise.
    16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;
    you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
    17 My sacrifice, O God, is[b] a broken spirit;
    a broken and contrite heart
    you, God, will not despise.

    Padraig, you are correct that this is more a spiritual battle than anything else. I know this may come across as the brash American thinking, but yes, at least for me growing up, we did think of or nation as exceptional. But, it was not because of our size or wealth, but truly an ingrained sense that we were blessed - We felt within our collective soul that a God blessed America. And with that came responsibilities to help others less fortunate, to pray and to worship openly. It meant to publicly call upon God. Even as recently after 9-11, our Church's and places of worship were busting at the seems as people turned to God. This is quickly going away and yes it is a battle for the soul of America now. A small group of us pray the Patriotic Rosary every month where we call upon God to restore our land and we pray for our leaders. So perhaps others will do same- pray for leadership. Robert E Lee wrote a beautiful letter all the way back in 1863 which still applies today:

    "Let us humble ourselves before the Lord, our God asking through Christ the forgiveness of our sins, beseeching the aid of the God of our forefathers in the defense of our homes and our liberties, thanking Him for His past blessings, and imploring their continuance upon our cause and our people.

    Knowing that intercessory prayer is our mightiest weapon and the supreme call for all Christians today, I pleadingly urge our people everywhere to pray. Believing that prayer is the greatest contribution that our people can make to this critical hour, I humbly urge that we take time to pray - to really pray.

    Let there be prayer at sunup, at noonday, at sundown, at midnight - all through the day. Let us pray for our children, our youth, our aged, our pastors, our homes. Let us pray for the churches.

    Let us pray for ourselves, that we may not lose the word concern out of our Christian vocabulary. Let us pray for our nation. Let us pray for those who have never known Jesus Christ and His redeeming love, for moral forces everywhere, for our national leaders. Let prayer be our passion. Let prayer be our practice." General Robert E. Lee 1863

    Finally, Chronicles 7:14 perhaps is a sign of hope:

    if then my people, upon whom my name has been pronounced, humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their evil ways, I will hear them from heaven and pardon their sins and heal their land.

    This is absolutely true. I have been on the receiving end of this more than once in the last few months. Labor day weekend there was a road block were every car was stopped and questioned, looking for drunk drivers. I answered the cop's questions, and did as I was told, but he got angry because I wasn't friendly to him. (I sensed enmity between us - a spiritual creepiness.)
    "Is something wrong?" he asked. I shook my head no, and he yelled at me, "Is there something wrong?" I answered, "No," and he shook his head in disgust. I wasn't giving him proper homage!!!

    The capture of the Boston Marathon Bombing suspect is a great example of this "worship". They shut the city down, put everyone on house arrest, and the suspect was only found when they let the homeowners leave their houses, and a man saw a blood trail leading to his boat in the driveway. The boat was visible from the street, just blocks from where the suspect was shot, and they were heralded for brilliant police work!

    I pray every day for policemen in the U.S. They will be sorely tempted to be used as tools of the enemy.

    I don't think there is any doubt that America was the Nation most blessed in history by God and that God had of course His reasons for this, He who raises up and also casts down. Also that in blessing America He also blessed many pother peoples such as the Irish.

    There is phrase in the bible also come to mind, 'He has removed the Scepter from Judah'.

    "The Sceptre shall not depart from Judah, ." Gen. 49:10

    . "For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him comes the chief ruler [prince]; but the Birthright is Joseph's," 1 Chron. 5:2.
