I have never really looked at her. My mother was a fan, but I know little about her ,only hearing occasional high praise and then from others condemnation.I would be interested in any insights thank you.

I know several members of the forum are fans. But my recommendation to all these things is if the Church closes the door, close your door too.

If at some time in the future the Church reopens the door then you can reopen your door too.

    Why take risks?

You know people are never going to say (unless) they have really gone over the Edge) ,

'The Pope is wrong, the Magisterium is faulty about this'.
What they will say, instead is, something like,

'No one knows what the Church thinks. They said they at one time but they said this at another'

'Such and such a saint agreed with this'.

'Such and such a Pope, or Cardinal loved his/her writings'.

So much so it leaves your head reeling. So the issue appears no longer clear cut black and white but weird confusing greys.

Will my answer to this is that if the Church wants and feels safe with these things let her say so.

But when in doubt , bin it.

God is perfectly capable of rehabilitating the good if He wants.

    He will defend His own.

    But until then....it's sayonara baby..

Actually the case of Garabandal and Our Lady of All Nations in the Netherlands are two good cases in point.

Both were rejected by the Local Ordinary (at the time) and although both myself and my Spiritual Director were enthusiastic believers we were content when the Church , through the local Bishop ruled against. Content but deeply saddened.

When they both rehabilitated I was happy to open the book again. More than happy.

In fact this big initial nix may be positive -for if the followers and seers remain obedient and go through the fire then the light will shine brighter after the storm.

Obedience and humility are everything in such cases. Where they are not present we should run as though the devil was chasing us, which he probably is.:D

I did not like it. Mother Mary speaks often about criticizing priests and how it offends God. I can not see God speaking this way, perhaps, except, on his judgment day.

I have read the book and spoke to someone about it many years ago (a priest, I think) who said that he discounted it because of the use of the title 'Mangod' when most mystics who had combined the words had used the title 'Godman'.
I have recently been re-reading 'The Mystical City of God' (which has never been short of Church approval since being written in the 17th century) and notice that the title 'Godman' is frequently used by the writer but that of 'Mangod' only once and that by Satan.
Not definitive but enough for me to discount it.

  10. We have discussed this on the Creation or Evolution theories thread. This is important to get the word out. Fr. Mitch has not had the last word. Maria AND Louisa Piccaretta BOTH causes have gone forward...GET THE WORD OUT AND READ THE BEAUTIFUL VOLUMES. THEY ARE WONDERFUL!

Breaking News: Maria Valtorta's Beatification cause was accepted in the Congregation of Saints January 12, 2012. Father José Antonio Fortea Cucurull (a well-known exorcist from the Diocese of Alcalá de Henares in Madrid, Spain) told Michael Brown of Spirit Daily that he was informed in Rome that Maria Valtorta is up for Beatification: "Her cause was accepted in the Congregation of Saints."

In an interview with Attorney Jan Connell of the Pittsburgh Center for Peace on January 27, 1988, Connell asked the visionary Vicka Ivankovich if there were any other books Our Lady had told her about. Vicka replied:
"Yes. The Poem of the Man-God by Maria Valtorta, ten volumes. Our Lady says The Poem of the Man-God is the truth. Our Lady said if a person wants to know Jesus he should read Poem of the Man-God by Maria Valtorta. That book is the truth."

My mother absolutely loves Poem of the Man-God but my sister could never get beyond the first page... my sister's "radar" is usually spot-on so I'm not sure what to make of it... I'm almost afraid to read it because I am so easily influenced and if it's not the real thing then I don't want to be swayed by it.

  12. Well, if the cause has gone forward, then you can put your worries to rest. The word MANGOD, has been used in the Eastern rite for centuries. It is not unusual.

    — INTRODUCTORY NOTE —
From time to time the question of Maria Valtorta's Cause for Beatification and Canonization is directed to this web site. Apparently it is asked much more frequently also of her devoted editor and publisher, Dr. Emilio Pisani.

In a recent issue of his
Bollettino Valtortiano [Valtorta Bulletin] No. 64, [for July - December, 2002], Dr. Pisani has happily addresssed this question for the sake of the many Valtorta readers and devotees interested in whether her Cause has been introduced, and/or its progress.
Dr. Pisani's two-part article is therefore translated here from the Italian of his Bollettino Valtortiano as he presents it for the many readers who have written to him or this web site on this question. May the Lord's Will be done!

    THE CAUSE

THE MOST FREQUENT question that our readers are asking us (from Italy and from abroad) is for news about the cause of Maria Valtorta's beatification, which they take almost for granted.
We cannot do otherwise than to answer that her cause has not been introduced1, but we take into account that readers would want to know more about it and that sometimes they have no clear ideas. Therefore we now treat the question with our Bulletin which, by presenting publications and giving some prominent news about Valtorta, serves to support a subject solicited by our readers.
We do not speak, however, of a cause (that of Maria Valtorta) of which there is none yet, but of a cause in general, without at all neglecting the possibility that her hoped for cause will be introduced. And we do it with the simple and informal language of one who knows certain things by experience and not from competence.

Putting a cause forward and the cause being 'accepted' (as they all are, I understand, so long as the relevant fee and papers are submitted) is certainly no reason to 'put my worries to rest'. If the cause is successful, I would certainly reconsider but there is absolutely no guarantee of that happening especially in the light of the Vatican's attitude in the past to the said work.

  15. I'm sorry Steve. I don't have the energy to talk about this again. We talked it to death on the other thread. If you put in Valtorta, or Maria Valtorta, you can check it out in the search section. As for me, I have all the books, my spiritual Father was one of the advocates for the books and he actually READ THEM, unlike those who bash the books. nuf said.
