I heard a couple of learned Commentators talking about Pope Francis's appointments of Cardinals and they said something that pleased me very much. They said that the Holy Father is extremely political, left wing and has a profound dislike even hatred for the USA. This shows in his appointments or lack of them in that country. But they went on to say that his Cardinal appointments in the rest of the would have very often been quite good. Perhaps I am grasping at straws, but still, I hope this is true.
Padraig, it is reinforced by your story a few days ago of some Cardinals giving out about Pope Bergoglio, one of the party being an appointee to the Cardinalate. So, the pope has chosen one who strongly disapproves of him. Hopefully, there are many others. One thing PF might have got right-Our God might very well be a God of surprises.
I am afraid our poor Church is tied up in Satanic Knots over this one. The devil planned well on this one. But, then again he had centuries and all the forces of hell at h is disposal. It reminds me of the saying that all that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. I am very much afraid that the evil from Rome is spreading and taking Ng root. I went into a Church near my home I used to love very much and had the most disquieting feeling that evil had taken root their amongst its priests. I am afraid even when Pope Francis is gone I am afraid the Church may face an even bigger problem. The False Church is very much up and running now, it would be no mean feat to stop it. Only a total purification will cleanse it. I am afraid it needs burnt down to the sticks and rebuilt. Hence the Chastisement.
Once they change the decision-making structure in the church, making it horizontal and decentralized, divine intervention will be necessary for a future pope to be able to govern the church.
The vibrant and youthful renewed Church is already here...It's the little flowers pushing up through the old dead grass. The chastisement, if necessary, will burn away that which is already dead or dying, making room for the tender healthy Church to shoot up and spread with vigor. I saw part of it today: Two young traditional nuns at Mass, who stayed around afterwards, and my 5 year old daughter Sophie who ran to meet them. She told them she's going to be a Benedictine, and they asked her if she's going to Gower (Sr. Wilhelmina's order), to which she said yes. They asked if she prays every day, morning and night, and she said yes she does, and one sister gave her a card with her name on it and asked Sophie to pray for her. It was such a sweet encounter, and things like this fill me with joy and hope for the future.

I am afraid at this stage it is too late now for the next Pope no matter how great and good and wise and streetwise and tough and Catholic to stop, even if he were a great miracle worker and full of charisms. The rot is too deep now, the evil too engrained. I am afraid our Church is rather like an aeroplane whose both engines have fallen off. As Our Lady said it is too late now to avoid some the Chastisements and I am afraid the crash and burn and rebirth of the Church is one.
The Church now is rather like the disciples before Pentecost we just have to wait trustfully, praying and waiting. Now as then everything seems lost, when, actually the Holy Spirit is just about to kick ass.
But we know that the Church that is about to be reborn will be a thousand times better than that which was. But , once again in our history only through a huge effusion of blood.
