Picadillo, no disrespect intended, far from it.

Your review of the film was succinct and most probably right on the money.

You can connect the dots if you read what Fr Barron wrote "In Defence of Andrew Greeley."

You and I know what immense damage Fr Greeley did to the Church in the USA and the most unusual manner in which he lived out his vocation, if in fact he ever had one.

No one should attempt to defend him, he is to be pitied and prayed for, of course, and we must accept the shame he has brought to the Body of Christ.

The fact that Fr Barron defends him and furthermore says he found his presence "intoxicating" makes it possible for us then to discern what is going on here and who we can trust to guide us.

That's why I said, further back: "Diabolical Disorientation". We are in deep deep apostasy.

According to an article in the UK Guardian, Father Andrew Greeley was:

"Once described by America's National Catholic Register as

    "the dirtiest mind ever ordained"

Yet, the article goes on to say he was:

"arguably the most visible voice of Catholicism in America"

    and:

"Although he was possibly America's most influential Catholic sociologist, Greeley himself recognised that he was more likely to be remembered for his fiction, forecasting that his obituary would be headlined "Andrew Greeley, priest: wrote steamy novels".

That quote from Fr. Greeley says it all. I had personal dealings with things and people he was into. I was the one who first discovered that quote and we knew who was murdered, etc. Mind blowing to me that he receives compliments but he did leave the church millions of dollars, whatever that means.

Yes, let us not minimise the sinister facts which Matt Abbott and the Attorney Sheila Parkhill have tried to bring to the public eye with regards to the information that Greeley had and refused to disclose; Information that could have resulted in the breaking open of a Satanic Paedophile Clergy Sexual Abuse ring operating within the Archdiocese of Chicago.

    No point in defending him

Um, really? Fr. Barron was a brand-new priest and only 28 when he was starstruck by Fr. Greeley and felt that being in his presence was intoxicating. Like some of us would feel in the presence of a well-known public person. Not everything this priest did was bad, and I don't know what you are reading but he brought that ring to the attention of the Church and nothing was done about it. He was MAD that they ignored what was going on. The Church never took away his collar, so neither should we. And neither should we condemn another priest for finding the good in him upon his passing.
Anyway, I thought this thread was about zombies...

How could he conceal information like this from the authorities? What if you had kids who were around this group of predators that he talks about? We got the Secretary of the State, Dan Devine's office , sicked on us just for coming out with this story! Early on he was trying to help out and then he sold out for some reason I don't care to speculate on.

Yes, I am so sorry for the sadness that this causes. Yet, in time, the truth will out. "For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, and nothing concealed that will not be made known and brought to light."

Many people were deluded and blinded by the popularity of certain clerics; priests, Bishops, Cardinals. But there is nowhere, in the end, that the light of Christ will not penetrate. We must keep praying for that to be soon in the case of this scandal.

So many good people, obviously yourself included, Picadillo, and good priests, Fr Fiore, for example, worked so hard for the corruption and the evil to be exposed, and sometimes they did not live to see the day, but surely they are helping us from Heaven.

Wow, that's intense, Picadillo, that you were so involved with that, but priests take a vow of obedience and only recently has that been heavily challenged in the courts. My belief is he was told to zip it and he did as he was told. Right or wrong, it was the way it was.

Anyway, I am outta here, back to our other thread where you and I are having a peaceful conversation about Marytown. This type of debate is not my cup of tea as you've probably guessed. We can be friends that don't agree on everything, I hope, Picadillo.

I kind of agreed with your review, though I also saw some thought provoking value in the film. In fact, on the first page of this thread I posted almost exactly what you posted. Here is my original review:

So, I guess I don't conclude that the film is intrinsically evil, but I suspect it could be linked to an evil agenda, and therefore it can be informative to see what is being telegraphed here.

I've been silent on this thread, even though I saw the movie, urged by Fr. Barron's review. As gruesome as it was, at least it was missing the glorification of sin that's usually slipped into every movie, no matter how good. (And I don't watch TV, and only see 2-3 movies a year, so I'm acutely aware of it when I see it.)

Something's been niggling at me, regarding the obsession with zombies in popular culture. The CDC even put out a tongue-in-cheek guide to surviving a zombie apocalypse! We know that Stan owns Hollywood, but God can use everything.

Here's what I've been thinking: when the separation of sheep and goats is complete and irrevocable (except for goats who repent at the hour of death), will the goats be so completely owned by stan, "zombified", that the sheep have to avoid contact with them at all costs? (I think of the instructions for 3 days darkness, not to open the door to anyone, even if they sound like family members.) Will the taking of the number of the beast over-ride the law of God written on every heart, and transform them into something completely evil, "other"?

Kathy you have just so precisely pinpointed my thoughts and feelings on this topic. I have not seen this movie, nor do I desire to, but have lately been making this mental comparison between the goats, as you put it, and zombies, and wonder do zombie narratives in some way serve as some kind of a warning to us. I always maintain that narratives have something to teach us, no matter how awful they might be.

Paul and Kathy I will get back to your reviews later. I like to go walking with the dogs to pray over things, deep things.

I was away a while there I just bought a second hand police car, the mechanic said I got the bargain of the year. I take this as a sign from Mary.

I never read Fr Greeley's stuff, I would rather get hit by a truck. :) I am astonished if Fr Barron praised him. Sometimes though folks get hung with stuff they didn't say?

But if he did he drops a little in my very, very high opinion. Though why he should have said such a thing amazes me.

One thing though I did pick up on in the movie. When I pass people, strangers on the street I often pray for them. Though doing so I pick up some on their spiritual state. I am not being nosey it just happens. Some people are scarey, just plain wicked. This kind of reminded me of zombies. At least with zombies what you see is what you get, but a lot of these bad people look really handsome and beautiful. I prefer zombies, they are less deceptive.

I've never liked horror movies and avoided them all my life, even in my teens - teenagers in particular seem to love horror movies.

But I did watch I Am Legend and found it entertaining enough.

I love a good suspense thriller.

I wouldn't call this a horror movie. I hate the evil horror genre as well. I think this is more like I Am Legend, but actually has less blood and less close up violence. (PG13)

I must be a lost cause , I loved , 'The Exorcist' film and also ,'Silence of the Lambs'.

My spiritual director did an exorcism one time and told me all about it. It was the first in our diocese for 48 years and the real deal. I couldn't get enough of it. Also when I was young I talked to Exorcists in England I was only 12 and it gave me a very bad nightmare, I remember.

'Silence of the Lambs' reminds me of Joan of Arc somehow, Jodie Foster doing battle with evil . A kind of modern moral tale.

I had to stop watching , 'Dempster' though as I thought it was malign.

Well Fr Barron reads a lot more into it that I ever could. :)

I liked the scene in Jerusalem, I love Jerusalem and it brought me back.

It reminded just how very, very fragile things are. Also I think we have as a society a subconcious idea of what is heading down the tracks towards us. I also do not like horror movies but this wasn't a horror movie. Not really.

'Nightmare in Elm St' now that was a horror movie.

I also like exorcism stories. The best ones I've ever read are in Hostage to the Devil, by Malachi Martin. Available in pdf:
