In my view there are two aspects of The Warning: 1: Particular “Each person on earth will have an interior experience of how they stand in the light of God's Justice. It is like a purification for the miracle.” ( Conchita) 2: General, “It will be a correction of the conscience of the world.” (Conchita) The Warning is not the final judgement, the end of the world or the end of time. Ultimately it is intended for the conversion of the world to the Roman Catholic Faith. As you say Padraig, when the Pope goes to Moscow we will know the time of The Warning or as you put it, the end game, is at hand. As Pope Francis said, we are not in an era of change but a change of era.
It's reassuring that the risk of repealing Humanae Vitae seems to be receding in this papacy. Since this pope had no problem in repealing the consequences of the words of Christ Himself, with respect to adultery and no difficulty in reversing the Motu Proprio regarding the Vetus Ordo issued by the pope who preceded him, this has been a real fear for many. It is ironic that his attitude to countering the sexual revolution involves a reversion to the 'backwardism' he frequently condemns in other contexts. Nevertheless, good to read.
Our present Our present Holy Father says and does much that is good and true. Also much that is neither good nor true. This is not my own personal opinion but that of numerous Cardinals. Bishops, priests and humble layfolk , including learned theologians throughout the world. I would be interested in your opinion of his present suppression of the Latin Rite; good or bad?
It never bodes well, Padraig, when you try force a binary response. It is usually a prelude to eviction. As you know I love Pope Francis. Suffice to say I still look back fondly on my days of serving at Mass. I still remember my Latin responses. I still have my 1952 missal to which I often refer. I also remember my mum expressing her delight and relief at being able to understand and more fully participate in the Sacrifice of The Mass when the vernacular was introduced. As for my response to the attitude and actions of Pope Francis on The Latin Mass let us wait until The Warning. If my conscience has caused me to sin in that matter it will be corrected. Until then I will continue to try to keep the Faith. all the best Joe
All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ anything beyond this comes from the evil one. Matthew 5:37
Thanks for posting this Scripture, I will be thinking about its meaning through the day. Scripture can be a puzzle, Jesus at times looses me.
Ah these lovers of the current pope!… You never get a straight answer from them. Always long, rambling, convoluted answers. and in this supreme moment of need of the Church, those who should speak will fall silent." Our Lady of Good Success.
I was looking at the web site for the Church I will be going to for the next week. A big picture of Pope Francis and large article praising the Synod on Synodality. So sad, a bit like finding your house is falling down with termites. Thank God it is not my home parish. Only passing through. Thank God.
Yeah especially that. Even what seems good is bad because it’s used to obfuscate, blindside the faithful and establish plausible deniability. Keep your eye on the ball /endgame. Old Marxist tactics.
In fairness, the present incumbent of the papacy is confusing many who only desire the truth. I was confused myself for a long time and found it very difficult to face up to what was, for me, the near-incredible reality that we were dealing with a pope who is, to be most charitable, dysfunctional at best; either for reasons of mental health or, more likely I hate to say, due to wickedness. It is quite natural for a Catholic, most particularly one of good standing, to consider the pope as the ultimate moral authority on Earth, which is exactly what he is supposed to be. It's not easy for many of these people to come to terms with the reality that exists currently. To accept what's going on for what it is requires the crossing of a very difficult Rubicon. People have to make this crossing in their own good time.
The possibility is that this outbreak of impeccable, 'backwardist' orthodoxy might be intended to soften us up and catch us unawares for the next outrageous announcement. This, unfortunately, is the point to where we have been driven.
Agreed. It really feels like we are the victims of ten years of spiritual gaslighting under this pontificate.
Whatever one thinks of Pope Francis, much of the moral damage inflicted upon the Church was done well before Francis was elected. For instance, I personally know priests who were recommending the use of contraception via the confessional back in the early '80s, even prior to that. Premarital sex among young Catholics when I was in college in the '70s was increasingly widespread. No-fault divorce wrecked havoc in Catholic marriages well before the turn of the century in the USA. I was confirmed in the 5th grade in the 70s; by the turn of the century a change in the USA was made to confirm at a later age, but by then the trend was for Catholic youth to go off to college and "graduate" from the Faith all together. Normalization of the gay lifestyle was well ahead of the curve by the time Pope Francis was elected. So too, the precipitous decline in belief of the Real Presence was already a reality. None of this was supported by the Pontificates of John Paul II or Benedict XVI. So Blizzard, your post above puts too much focus on Pope Francis I believe. The two new horrendous developments that have occurred under Francis are the abandonment of the Catholic Church in China and the degradation of the TLM. Most everything else was already firmly in place. What turned the Church around in the 4th century that began renewal were the intercessory lifestyle of the Desert Fathers. We must be inspired by them and become the new leaven in the dough for our own day. Yes, the Warning may be very close, but when my Personal Judgment rolls around, Jesus will look me in the eye and ask, "What did you personally do to stem the tide of apostasy?"
Excellent response, Terry. However, until 2013 I was never personally confused about Church teaching because it was clear what the official church taught. Pope Francis is singularly responsible for making me a confused Catholic. I have struggled a lot under this pontificate as my natural default position has always been full obedience to the Roman pontiff. But Francis' confused teaching style has confused me and caused me enormous angst. Let me just mention a few - capital punishment, the use of tainted vaccines, Amoris Laetitia, stating that church teaching on sex in diaper phase, his support for homosexual civil unions, who am I to judge statement, God wills plurity of religions etc there are so many more. The reality hit home when my eldest unbelieving and non practising son was able to quote Pope Francis to me in order to force me to get the covid injection. Wow! This Pope frazzles my brain. Is that my fault?
Terry You are so right. I have many good friends and acquaintances who want to believe the best and I don't see it as my job to disturb their faith in him. They are good people who live by the Gospel. Our Lady has said that if we were holier then more people would be attracted to live a holier Christian life. We must work on ourselves. I pray for Pope Francis every day and leave it at that. For a while I was very upset and anxious about all the going ons in the Vatican but now I prefer not to think about it at all. So far its working for me. Who knows what the future will bring but for now I'm whistling past the graveyard.
This pretty much sums up my position although I agree with Bobby that PF introduced doubt and confusion about Church teaching. Hatd not to hear the echo from the Garden of Eden: " did God really say...."
