Addictions can be overcome. It doesn't happen overnight as it's a long haul with trips and falls and rising up again. Overcame my addiction some 5 or 6 years ago.
Prayers in Church today. Addiction is a terrible, terrible affliction and it everywhere nowadays, especially amongst the young. God have Mercy.
Matt’s story is beautiful and inspiring. He rose from the bottomless pits of addiction to having visitations of the Queen of Heaven. God is merciful.
The one hundredth anniversary since Matt Talbot’s death will be marked in June 2025 with the ‘Centenary for the Venerable Matt Talbot Weekend Services and a Cathedral visit.’ The visit of Matt Talbot’s relics around Ireland has been organised and supported by the Knights of Columbanus. https://catholicnews.ie/televising-matt-talbots-centenary-events/ His tomb in very humble and plain Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Seán McDermott Street is also well worth a visit, and the Church also contains the fascinating Sacred Heart of Monto. The history and achievements of the Legion of Mary's work in what was known as the Monto in Dublin is also fascinating.
I love Matt Talbot. A Friend Priest runs a shrine to Him and he said a Mass for my daughter and her fiance...He works with alcoholics and the addicted and Matt is his go to. And mine also.
