There is an alternative classification for the apparitions of Garabandal, that is appropriate at the moment, which conforms with the Non Constat de Supernatural, but still gives legitimacy to the phenomenon that took place. I think a great deal of hostility has been caused by the "all or nothing" attitudes that have prevailed in the wake of the occurrences. Aside from my own personal belief and speaking from the scientific mind, those apparitions could aptly be described as "extraterrestrial" in nature. I am not saying that in the sense of space aliens, but rather the immediate translation of " not from the earthly realm". It is beyond obvious that the phenomenon that took place is not human in origin, but in respect to the magisterium and also the sensitivities of those who believe there is a middle ground, that neither confirms, nor denies any possibilities.
LETS NOT CONFUSE NEW COMERS, THERE IS ONLY 3 CHURCH CLASSIFICATIONS FOR APPARITIONS, GARABANDAL FALLS UNDER THE 3RD ONE. The Church has a very strict and precise terminology for judging alleged apparitions (very few apparitions are officially approved). According to the norms of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, alleged apparitions are classified in one of three categories: Constat de supernaturalitate - It is certain that the events are of supernatural origin. Constat de non supernaturalitate - It is certain that the events are not of supernatural origin. Non-constat de supernaturalitate - It is not certain that the events are of supernatural origin.
Hi Glenn, I keep meaning to ask you about what you know about Conchita looking up the Miracle in her calendar. I mean some people believe that she did but on this link it says that she was asked by a bishop and she said no.http://www.1260.org/Mary/Apparitions_Garabandal/Garabandal_Apparitions_Miracle_Conchita_en.htm Thank you.
She was looking on her kitchen calendar for the "young martyr of the Eucharist" feast day. Here is the story and source: On a day in September of 1963, some French people were invited to eat dinner with Conchita in a house near the girl's home. She was devouring pastries with the healthy appetite of girls of her age. Someone jokingly asked her about the sacrifices and penance mentioned in the message. Conchita accepted the joke in good humor and laughed. But suddenly she became quiet and seemed to concentrate; her face lit up; and with her hands joined on her chest, she began to speak: “The Miracle will be on the feastday of a young martyr of the Eucharist, a boy who carried Communion to persecuted Christians. His companions, on seeing him pass by, wanted to force him to stay and take part in their games. Infuriated by his resistance, they ended up hurling stones at him until he was left almost dead. Later a Christian soldier came, who recognized him and carried him in his arms”. One of those present exclaimed: Oh, that's St. Tarcisius!» Conchita, without saying a word, as if she hadn't heard, turned back to her pastries. After dinner ended and Conchita had left, those at the table exchanged their impressions. The oldest in the group concluded: It seems that Conchita saw this scene in an ecstasy, but without understanding what martyr it was. I don't think she even knows his name. “ She Went in Haste to the Mountain” Book 3, Chapter 7, page 146 (L'Etoile dans la Montagne) “ Star on the Mountain” Chapter 51, page 121-122
Is there a possibility that Conchita made a personal interpretation of a vision on the martyrdom of St. Tarcisius?
Has anyone considered that the Miracle could take place over a period of time, the Period of Peace. If so, the "period" in which the Miracle is experienced could begin in April and end on the Feast of St. Tarcisius (aka the Assumption). To think of it this way, would solve the problem caused by St. Tarcisius's Feast Day being in August.
No, the date is set ,as Conchita already has the date given to her, and she has not told me that there was a change in that date.
TODAY IN GARABANDAL HISTORY NOVEMBER 6,1966 Notes recorded by Mother Nieves ( the directress of Conchita's college ) "Conchita's Recollections" On the topic of praying for the " Miracle " day. "The people pray that the Miracle will take place. Don't you see that this is foolish? It will take place whether they pray or not. I only request that the message be fulfilled. Many pray for the Miracle in order that others, who have not believed, will be put down. This doesn't seem good to me. I think that my mother is anxious for the Miracle to come in order to be free from doubts and worry . . . It's wonderful to love God and to have faith, without seeing anything. " Mother Nieves— “God is patient; He gives us light by steps. The Virgin taught you slowly, but never showed herself displeased, isn't that right?” Conchita— No, never! We never saw her that way, even when she was speaking to us about the Chastisement. We have seen the Chastisement, did you know that? But whether or not it will take place, that depends. when we told her our faults, she was silent From " She went in haste to the Mountain " Book 2, Chapter 3, pgs. 84-96
Thank you Glenn, that’s what I thought. I remember you stating that you were perplexed by who this saint coud be given the clues that we have.
The literal translation gives a better sense. Constat means "agreed upon", it gives a much more magisterial sense to the declarations, but for now there is only 3 declarations, however maybe in the future there could be a fourth declaration as an adjunct to the others: Constat eam non esse naturalem. For me the Church is not static but like flowing water. Joan of Arc said that the Church is Jesus Christ, and Jesus is a King, and proverbs state that like flowing water, a King's heart, Yahweh guides it where he pleases, and science dictates the water cycle, so in essence just as we flow into the Sea, we also return to the sources high in the mounatins, to become waterways back to the Seas. Water is dynamic and can change states, while retaining its essence. Maybe one day...
IMO, I believe that it is likely a Saint who's extraordinary life has been lost and or forgotten by mankind in the annals of martyrology who will be made known to us on the Day of the Miracle...
SR. LUCY OF FATIMA & CONCHITA. “INTERVIEW WITH FR. ALFRED COMBE” “On July 5 of the last year, I was at Fatima with an important group of Pilgrims as a spiritual guide. While there, I asked to be received by the former Bishop of Leira ,Bishop of Fatima (Bishop Venancio ). I knew that this Bishop who often saw Sr. Lucia, not now ,but sometime ago, had been asked to go and see Conchita twice. “The second time I saw you was on a photo in the home of a lady , Sr LUCIA ASKED YOU TO VISIT, WHO LIVES VERY FAR FROM HERE – CONCHITA IN NEW YORK. “ Sr. Lucia of Fatima asked the former Bishop of Fatima if he could go visit Conchita in New York twice! To me this is just one more affirmation of the validity of the apparitions, and Conchita herself. From Joey Lomangino’s site:“INTERVIEW WITH FR. When I visited the hospitals, I noticed that I benefited. Then I remembered the things that attracted me at other times — like amusements, fine clothes — and I saw that they weren't worth the trouble." TODAY IN GARABANDAL HISTORY NOVEMBER 9,1966 Notes recorded by Mother Nieves ( the directress of Conchita's college ) "Conchita's Recollections" Mother Nieves tried to lift up her spirits, telling her that when the (spiritual )darkness passed she would enter into the fullness of God . Conchita— "What a joy if it were like that! But could I possibly experience more joy than I have experienced in the past? The apparitions of the Virgin filled me with happiness. But the locutions of Jesus are much better. I don't understand ... It is something superior ... I pray that He accomplishes His will in me." GARABANDAL CONFERENCE IN TORONTO 11-9-96 WITH JOEY LOMANGINO AND JACINTA MOYNIHAN. I thought it would be a wonderful for those of you who have never heard Joey speak about his life, accident, conversion, meeting Padre Pio, trips to Garabandal, and the Warning and Miracle. I was blessed to accompany Joey and Marilyn Lomangino to Toronto for this Garabandal conference. At about the 51:25 mark of this home made video, and the end of Joey’s talk, you can see people lined up to meet Jacinta and venerate the crucifix our Blessed Mother kissed. Also another line to meet Joey & Marilyn Lomangino , and venerate the large medal our Blessed Mother kissed. Here is the You Tube link :
There is a very nice film about Garabandal by Michael Waletzko. As he says himself, he was a great sinner, but him was given the grace to repent. After his visit in Garabandal he made this film. Unfortunately, it is only available in German, but you can display the subtitle and translate it by hand. (2) Garabandal-Widerkunft Christi - Corona- Zeichen der Zeit - Menschenfischen - YouTube
Conchita in an 1988 interview in New York says “ When I came here for the first time I was happy. Nursing the poor with Dr. Dominguez, I was happy, oh yes! Because now nobody knew me. And here in America, I feel good, though I also feel alone”. From : “Garabandal: Message of Hope”, pg 219 At age 23 , Conchita came to America. A famous Spanish/American Radio personality and Physician in New York, Dr. Jeronimo Dominguez,(and his wife Gladys) knew her from their visits to Garabandal, offered to bring her over, and provide housing and a vocation in his medical practice.
