Thanks Terry… she deserved it. A little of whips and turning over the money tables is good every once in a while :D

Carol, I am glad to hear that you recovered well. Here in WA state they passed the legislation granting this authority and gave the reason for it being that a person who tests positive and lives in a household of family members who have not been exposed or tested positive would need to be able to ensure that their quarantine would also not expose them.
Among their requirements are that there would need to be a separate bathroom and living space available in the home for the person to reside in to safely guarantee this. Given that many people do not have this luxury and that some people do have someone in their home who is considered a higher likelihood of danger if they contract the virus they made this available.
To my knowledge there has not been a single case in WA of this authority being used to remove someone from their home.
Australia did take this measure and placed some people in centers to quarantine and recover if they were not symptomatic yet tested positive and did not have the resources available to quarantine safely.
Some media outlets used this as an example of the governments authority being abused and used that fear to further fuel public distrust in their institutions and leaders.
My thoughts about this are that we the people of course need to keep vigilant watch over this level of authority being used and make sure that it is not abused. That said, we also need to temper our suspicions with the knowledge that this virus has killed many people and has the potential to become extremely severe should it get out of hand.
I know that if I tested positive and did not have the resources to not be a vector for infecting my family and others I would be glad to have a resource to take advantage of that while being a tremendous hardship would provide for that level of relief.
Of course not all people feel this way and some would of course object to being housed in a quarantine center "against their will".
I say all this looking back on my personal experience having contracted the Omicron variant and being immune compromised. My entire family caught it and tested positive. I became extremely ill in spite of the fact that I was taking hydroxychloroquine. I ran a high fever for 4 days and the effects of it took weeks to fully recover from. After the fact I considered that this variant was the least severe of all that had come before it and I am very grateful that we never contracted Delta or the original form of the virus because in all likelihood I very well may not have made it through that experience.
I wouldn't be concerned about your speaking out against this publicly. I've been an avid gun rights advocate for decades and signed more petitions and public statements than I can count regarding protecting our individual rights in my state. If there are databases with such information my name is certainly among them.
If things ever get to the point where we have to be concerned for being involved in such activities frankly it wont matter. Authorities will not be acting in accordance with the rule of law at that point and anyone with a neighbor who has a grievance could potentially be their downfall. Let's hope that never happens and we do our duty as citizens to continually safeguard our nations and civilization.

Don, I realize that healthcare is not perfect (I know that you have not stated that it is) but those in power during this pandemic have made so many mistakes, big mistakes and many of these big mistakes are not just a matter of hindsight. I have honestly tried to not believe that a lot of those big mistakes were planned but as time has gone on it's seems apparent that they either felt that people can't handle the truth or they did, in fact, plan them or a lot have been the result of politics. None of those reasons are acceptable, imho.

I do keep waiting for Fauci to say to us, "You can't handle the truth."

My point is, (non-elected) NY Governor Kathy Hochul is over reaching at a time when most of us are very nervous about seeing the government get even more control/power over us.

I empathize with your trepidation. Our elected leaders have handled this whole thing as information was pouring in from multiple sources from all over the globe. Some of this was questionable at best and some was downright misleading (China) but they did not have the luxury of making those determinations purely based on their own judgement. To compound the issue at least in the US we have 50 governors and each one took a different position based on the information that was available to them at the time.
Fauci's recommendations changed (like the CDC's) as more information became available and was actually confirmed.
The truth is that they simply did not know at the time for much of this and so they took the most conservative position that would safeguard the people of this country as best was able.
IMO some seized on this situation to deliberately denigrate our leaders and demoralize the people and our confidence in not only our leaders but our entire system of government. Of course our leaders made mistakes during this whole process but making the jump that they deliberately did this is IMO mistaken.
If your governor is over reaching then the legislature needs to reign her in and the people need to put pressure on their district reps to make sure they do. In WA they are doing exactly that this legislative season by limiting the emergency powers of Governor Inslee and making sure that should another situation like this arise that the state of emergency is limited by law and requires the legislature to continue.
