I know no more than could be written on the back of a stamp about volcanoes, but if Quis ut Deus' videos represent a 'nothing burger', I hope I never encounter a 'Big Mac'!

They say the lava is 2 km from the ocean. Looking at that drone footage, they must be measuring the scenic route. Will it matter if some lava gets into the cone? The lava will be considerably cooler and fairly shallow with not enough volume to reach the top of the cone. Do you think that the sides of the cone won't withstand the force of the lava? And what if the lava does get into the cone? With no volcanic activity beneath the cone, wouldn't the lava simply cool, harden and reinforce the cover on the cone? You won't be surprised to learn that I no nothing about volcanoes.

I read a comment that the Spanish authorities have done some tests to measure heat beneath the coastal waters and the results are not good. I'm too ignorant to understand or explain it clearly, so I'm hoping you might know something about it.

Rory you are in the Maritimes aren't you? I think I remember that you have mentioned it. You and I (Maine) are basically in the same scenario if this does its worst. I pray we are spared. Anyone on the Atlantic coast basically is at risk if the underwater mountain falls at Cumbra Vieja. At least that's what seismologists and geologists have been saying for years. Poor poor people of LA Palma. May God protect them.

If the dreaded tsunami happens, you will get 8 hours notice. We'll get 4 if we're lucky.

Does that mean there will be more lava flowing down towards the ocean?

Incidentally, did you know that La Palma is San Miguel de la Palma? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Palma
I don't know whether it was named for St. Michael the Archangel or another St. Michael, but Archangel Michaels feast day is 29th September. Hope the Catholics on the island have been doing a novena.

Surely the volcanoe is acting precisely as it should as a volcanoe blowing its top unless I'm missing something. I would be amazed if it was to do something that was contrary its nature(n)

Oh may St Michael protect them! And us. How many places are named for St Michael all up and down Europe and the islands. That line that goes directly down the spine of Europe where monasteries and shrines to St Michael were erected....our ancestors were so much wiser than we are with all our techno toys.

Hmm… earthquake guy, Dutchsinse, has always claimed that that the USGS has a history of underreporting earthquakes. I am beginning to think he’s been right all along.

Maybe they only report earthquakes above magnitude 4. I think that all the earthquakes in the Canaries have been below mag. 4 although a lot,of them have been at a very shallow depth.

Some people are saying that the lava finally destroyed the church.

Some are saying volcanic harmonic tremors, caused by the underground movement of magma, do not represent true “earthquakes” per se, so they don’t necessarily list them as earthquakes.

Earthquakes are caused by movements of plate boundaries, not the movements of magma.

Most of the current tremors on La Palma are related to movements (“harmonic tremors”) of magma.

Apart from the obvious lava, boom, explosions volcanoes are notoriously unpredictable in relation to lava flow and explosive conditions if everyone took the idea of a volcano being just a volcano then people would just ignore that little mountain far away that just happens to be exploding,, I bet the people of pompei would be screaming their lungs out at such a statement.. the very very big factor here Malachi is the fact that this volcano has a very big potential to be a absolute world game changer, As I have mentioned before could well be a damp squib but on an equal odds chance it could be one hell of a firework..;)
