The thought has crossed my mind with regards to our Holy Father Pope francis and the present severe crisis in the Church.

Suppose our Holy Father is and was 100% right in all that he did and said.

All the senior Cardinals and Bishop, priests and poor lay folk like myself who disagreed were wrong.

Fair enough that would be wonderful. I would like nothing better.

But supposing he was right and previous Popes were wrong (for let's face it he contradicts previous Popes as if they never existed).

    Great again.

But say he were right. Could he not have put forward the right case in a far better way that did not get folks backs up all the time. By for instance using very, very harsh, confrontational, very nasty language that would cause a fight in an empty house. Also by acting like a Dictator? By running roughshod over other people's feelings?

he has a track record for all this going back to long before he became Pope. everywhere he went arguments, fights , rows, dissent.

I saw this last night. Mel comes through--he hasn't lost his deep Catholic roots in spite of his (sad) transgressions. I do think Our Lady has a hold on him.

I follow Fr Heilman on Facebook and he posted the cancelled priest rally. I was impressed by Mel G’s words and hope he is back on track.

Mel's a sinner alright. But so am I . That kinda makes me like him all the more.

Did you know that Fulton Sheen made up one of his Scholastic Degrees in an effort to get out of teaching Philosophy? the same with 'Dr' Martin Luther King who cheated in his Phd.

I kinda like this. I love finding flaws in too perfect others, it comforts me in my considerable own imperfection.. Perhaps the trouble with Satan is that he was a little too perfect for his own good.

Too much perfect kinda burns my eyes.

I love the way Mel looks like he has recently been run over by a train. I look that way myself.:)

Maybe there were times when Jesus himself looked like a train wreck.

Life can do that to you.

Mel is a sedeprivationist. I can certainly see why he would believe this but I do not have the theological understanding of how it could be possible.

Is Mel Gibson a Sedevacantist? Sedevacantism verses Sedeprivationism
    by Dr Taylor Marshall

Are you ready to be confused? Then read on.Most Catholics by now are aware of “sedevacantism”. In short, it teaches that there is no pope on earth, and that Pope Pius XII was the last valid pope. All those since then are popes in name only. The term sedevacantism comes from the Latin sedes vacans, meaning “empty chair” – in other words, the chair of the Saint Peter is empty. So the sedevacantist teaches that John Paul II was an impostor and the same for Benedict XVI. The incredibly strange and non-Catholic Society of Saint Pius V (not the Society of Saint Pius X) is officially sedevacantist. Click here to learn about the Society of Saint Pius V.

Okay, so that’s sedevacantism. I think it’s sheer lunacy, but at least I can understand it. Here’s another position that is even more odd: sedeprivationism. Sedeprivationism follows the thought of the quasi-schismatic French theologian Michel Louis Guérard des Lauriers. The term means that there is a privation in the occupant of the chair of Saint Peter, i.e. something lacking.

According to sedeprivationism, Popes John XXIII, Paul VI, John Paul I, John Paul II and Benedict XVI were and are defective popes because they espoused the heresies of “Modernism”.

Here is where sedeprivationism becomes difficult to understand. According to sedeprivationists, the consent of these five men (J23 through B16) to become pope was faulty or defective on account of their so-called heretical views. As a result, they each became potentially pope, but did not attain to fullness of the papacy. In other words, they became pope materialiter sed non formaliter or “materially but not formally”.

Apparently, Mel Gibson is sedeprivationist and not a sedevacantist. I had a conversation with someone who recently met with Gibson to discuss this issue and Gibson seemed to grant that Benedict XVI is the pope but also that he is a faulty or defective pope. This would make him a sedeprivationist of sorts.

Thus, the sedeprivationist (like Gibson) does not believe that the papal chair is empty, only that the material popes who have occupied it are formally defective.

    Does that makes sense?

Theologically, it doesn’t make sense to me.

As far as I recall Mel Gibson's view were formed by his father who certainly was the Rad Trad to beat all Rad Trad's. :):)

Very large family of 11 Scots/ Irish roots. His father reminds me very much of own late father in his views.

He has a gf that is way more then half his age. I wouldn't be following too much. I think she's having his kid or he has another child with her. I like to see someone who walks the walk in faith. It's too bad because the Passion was a great movie and Braveheart is one of my favorite movies as well.

I love Mel, but I think he is battling the demon of alcohol…and yes, he is blessed with so much talent, but his personal life is a bit a mess. I love his “passion” for his faith enough to financially support the canceled priest. Our poor church is such a mess now….BUT God wins!

I hope when I die and go before the Judgement Seat of God some kind soul at some point well step forward and on my behalf say,

    'Well at least he tried'.

May that kind person who throws that little bit in be Our Blessed Mother.:)

I wonder what ever happened to that film he was supposed to be making about Our Lady?

When a person drinks alcoholically, the first thing they lose is their spirituality. The second faculty lost is emotional and mental. Then, finally, the physical. When a person gets in recovery, the opposite order is achieved: recovery of the physical, followed by mental and emotional. The spiritual life is the last to return gradually over time after working the 12 Steps or following a recovery plan.

I always love the Promises we get from heaven, like the Brown Scapular Promise (the Sabbatine one) the Promises of the Sacred Heart, the Divine Mercy , the 15 Promises connected with Rosary and so on. Anything to do with Eternal Salvation are real biggie for me.

The Promises connected to Divine Mercy Sunday are my huge hope.

God has thrown us so many life lines..

The saddest thing I think looking at poor Mel is the self contempt. No one dislikes or has a poorer opinion of Mel more than Mel, I suspect. Poor man.

I must pray for him during the week...

it is extremely rare for a famous one to glorify the name of God without involving religious pluralism; in that Mel Gibson seems not to have fallen into this trap.

It's a wonderful, wonderful thing to have been raised in good loving Catholic Family. That never ever goes away from you, no matter how low you may go.

That upbringing always walks with you.

Mel displays all the typical character faults of full blown bipolar disorder with mania. His whole life is a textbook example of it, especially acting out on his “passions” with his Russian model girlfriend. You can see it in his eyes and his face and hands when he’s in a manic phase.

He even stated his movie “Conspiracy Theory” was based loosely on his father.

For a number of years, his father attended a small independent trad chapel in southwestern Pennsylvania. The priest was formally of the Diocese of Greensburg.

Interestingly, a friend took me to lunch one day with this priest, who told us tales of Mel and his father.

Apparently at one time Mel was trying to recruit retired bishops to ordain priests for he and his father’s chapels they were building. This priest took Mel to see our retired Bishop James Hogan at Garvey Manor in Hollidaysburg PA, which is within walking distance of the house where I grew up.

It was bizarre, with Mel going in disguise to meet our retired bishop, who unfortunately was well beyond being able to help Mel, even if he wanted to.

This just further reinforces my opinion that Mel is an incredibly bright but deeply flawed man and suffers from full blown bipolar/ manic episodes.

But his Passion of the Christ movie was better than any telling of the passion story in history IMO.
