Many of you may have heard about the horrible discovery of hundreds of unmarked graves of Indigenous children who attended Catholic Residential Schools here in Canada. Catholic Churches are now being vandalized and lit on fire. Here where I live in British Columbia, we have had two Churches burnt to the ground. We have a beautiful Marian Grotto in my community that someone tried to set on fire last night. Thankfully a neighbour saw it and called the Fire Dept. I am concerned that my Church will also be targeted. My Parish Priest lives alone at the Church and I expressed my concern to him this morning for his safety. He said he is not afraid. Please offer a prayer for his and the safety of all Canadian Priests, as emotions are running high against the Catholic Church right now. Thank you.
More divide & conquer tactics going on in Canada I see, inciting certain groups into acts of hatred. May the martyrs Saint Jean de Brébeuf and Saint Kateri Tekakwitha who both faced much hostility in their day intercede for Canada and for the first nations people.
Protestants being targeted too. An online friend of mine moved to Canada with her husband in 2009. She loved it there for years. They're Baptist, and although in Ontario, I'm betting they're wondering "when." "The Calgary Vietnamese (refugee) Alliance Church was severely damaged in a fire believed to be an arson attack." https://www.thecountersignal.com/news/calgary-refugee-church-arson “We are refugees with no means. We escaped from Vietnam to come here to get more freedom, to live and we think it was a good country - and now it happened to our church,” Pastor Thai Nguyen told me after I arrived at the church early Monday morning. “Maybe it is not safe to be here in Canada compared to Vietnam,” he added. I think of Yeonmi Park, whose mother defected from North Korea to the USA with Yeonmi (a teenager then). Yeonmi has enjoyed living in the USA (New York) ... and now she's raising the alarm on Marxism.

I would like to correct a couple point as I understand them. These aren't Catholic Residential schools but Canadian government schools very underfunded by government and run by Christian denominations. 50% were run by Catholics and 50% by other protestant denominations. Most important is what the Catholic Church has done these last 30 years to apologize and remedy. ***last link I'm not defending anyone's actions, it is tragic. Some perspective on this situation worth reading. https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/this-...hools-100-years-ago-but-was-ignored-1.5462902 https://www.dailyheraldtribune.com/...au-of-deflecting-blame-on-residential-schools *** https://nationalpost.com/opinion/ra...arn-something-from-the-church-about-apologies
This is a very good point! In many provinces in Canada, Catholic Schools have been funded 100% by the government for over a century and are public schools that "participate in government policies" as says the bishop in the article you posted. So the responsibility would have to be shared between both institutions in the school where the graves were found because it opened after government funding began. Follow the money would be important in understanding what really went on. I quote this excerpt from one article: "In the correspondence written on Catholic Pastoral Centre letterhead, the typically outspoken Henry quotes the final report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada in highlighting Ottawa’s culpability in the national disgrace of the residential schools that forced 150,000 First Nations children from their homes. “The federal government never established an adequate set of standards and regulations to guarantee the health and safety of residential school students. This failure occurred despite the fact that the government had the authority to establish those standards,” Henry quoted the report. “The failure to establish and enforce adequate standards, coupled with the failure to adequately fund the schools, resulted in unnecessarily high residential school death rates.” That neglect included malnutrition, improper clothing, poor sanitary conditions and ventilation that led to many deaths by tuberculosis, states the report." We could also point out that in 2021 there are many groups who argue today about poor nutrition in school canteens, improper clothing, ventilation and more. Obesity is everywhere, allergies and other ailments have skyrocketed, kids have ADHD and are on drugs, they are addicted to phones, watch too much TV are dumbed down... I wonder if Mr Prime Minister would care to apologize?
And Trudeau was calling out Pope Francis to come here to Canada and personally apologize! The nerve! Not surprised though...
Brian Holdworth’s most recent YouTube posting is a thorough discussion of the truth behind the (supposed) cultural genocide of indigenous children in the residential schools. Very interesting, balanced, and counters the inflammatory Canadian news headlines about mass, or unmarked graves.
The Truth and Reconciliation report commissioned by the Canadian government in 2009 (?) was 3400+ pages long, with a 300 page summary. The summary was heavily biased to negative views, was apparently not checked for bias, and which now forms an inaccurate basis for any thoughtful, truthful discussion. His guest speaker is highly qualified. Churches were torched... Dangers of gossip and slander writ large?
