One Mans Hero starring Tom Berenger is excellent. It's set during the Mexican war of 1850s when Catholic soldiers , mainly Irish but other nationalities as well, were persecuted and banned from attending Mass. They defected to Mexico and formed Los Patricios a famous regiment in the Mexican army.

"The Scarlet and the Black" with Gregory Peck..." The true story of a Vatican official depicts his bravery, as he defies a Nazi colonel by hiding downed WW2 pilots and escaped POWs in occupied Rome."

Also, see another movie on World War II called "The Assisi Underground" with Ben Cross, famous for "Chariots of Fire" and other movies.

This one, "Noble" may not be Catholic, I know little of it but an Irish woman, Christina Noble apparently goes over to Vietnam and makes a difference, I will have to see this one.
Watch Noble (2015) - Free Movies | Tubi (tubitv.com) Sounds like she helps street kids over there. There appears to be people from the Emerald Island here, anyway, this sounds pretty good and they just got it.

One of the all time great Catholic movies by some is considered to be "Monsieur Vincent" about St. Vincent dePaul, I got to see this, it must have been with English language captions, it is a French movie made shortly after the end of World War II. He is a very great Saint, Saint of charity, we still have the Societies of St. Vincent dePaul, they have been doing food handouts at churches. The Societies were founded by Blessed Frederic Ozanam of France as well who founded these well after the earthly life of St. Vincent dePaul, there could be other names to add to the mix. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frédéric_Ozanam

This may be one with English dubbing or captions but I'm not getting it streaming well.

I know in the Republic of Ireland, the Vincentian order was having tours of St. Vincent dePaul in France, furthermore, I think St. Catherine Laboure who received the Miraculous Medal was a part of the order St. Vincent started, the Daughers of Charity.

St. Catherine Labouré and the Miraculous Medal – Daughters of Charity: Province of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton

I am so humbled at what these people have done, St. Vincent de Paul, St. Catherine Laboure, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, pray for us. It's a movie worth seeing if one can find it. Yes, I believe Amazon has for rent a version one can watch with English subtitles or dubbing.

Academy Award winning film: Monsieur Vincent (1947) - IMDb

Looks like there was made a movie on St. Father Damien of Molokai decades ago but it's in Spanish. I will still have to try to watch this soon.

It is just almost endless on what one can watch...

The movie, "There be Dragons" is about Josemaria Escriva.

Streaming: Watch There Be Dragons (2011) - Free Movies | Tubi (tubitv.com)
"Arising out of the horror of the Spanish Civil War, a candidate for canonization is investigated by a journalist who discovers his own estranged father had a deep, dark and devastating connection to the saint's life."

Josemaria Escriva, founder of Opus Dei.

This in the first paragraph is mentioned in the movie "There be Dragons", the Nun had something like a tumor the size of an orange that vanished:

His cause for beatification was introduced in Rome on 19 February 1981 on the strength of the apparently miraculous cure in 1976 of a rare disease, lipomatosis, suffered by Sister Concepción Boullón Rubio, whose family had prayed to Escrivá to help her. On 9 April 1990, Pope John Paul II declared that Escrivá possessed Christian virtues to a "heroic degree", and on 6 July 1991 the Board of Physicians for the Congregation of the Causes of Saints unanimously accepted the cure of Sister Rubio. He was beatified on 17 May 1992.

By way of a letter dated 15 March 1993, the Postulation for the Cause received news about the miraculous cure of Dr. Manuel Nevado Rey from cancerous chronic radiodermatitis, an incurable disease, which took place in November 1992.[102] The reported miracle, apparently brought about by Escrivá's intervention, was ruled valid by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints and approved by Pope John Paul II in December 2001, enabling the canonization of Escrivá. John Paul II, who frequently expressed public endorsement of Opus Dei and its work, canonized Escrivá on 6 October 2002. The canonization Mass was attended by 42 cardinals and 470 bishops from around the world, general superiors of many orders and religious congregations, and representatives of various Catholic groups. During the days of the canonization event, church officials commented on the validity of the message of the founder, repeating John Paul II's decree Christifideles Omnes on Escrivá's virtues, which said that "by inviting Christians to be united to God through their daily work, which is something men will have to do and find their dignity in as long as the world lasts, the timeliness of this message is destined to endure as an inexhaustible source of spiritual light, regardless of changing epochs and situations."[citation needed]
I watched it when it first came out. I don't believe I absorbed it very well, I think it is fairly neutral all told. I should watch it again.

I don't know much about Opus Dei but I certainly hear them mentioned a lot.

Also, on the recently Canonized Archbishop and Martyr Romero and indeed from Paulist Pictures:

This movie gets high praise and Raul Julia's acting is first rate but I did think one needs to know the background of the war.

So I just finished watching The Pilgrims Progress (free on YouTube) I liked it a lot and while I know a foot note said it had been written in 1600, it reminded me of a book I had read that seemed to me more Catholic called Hinds Feet on High Places, I think I liked the latter better but both were good :) Thank for recommending

Most of these movies, if not in English, are dubbed or subtitled into English.

A Lourdes movie about the local itself, it's a bit light-hearted, at times humorous.... I don't know if when I post a link from Tubitv.com one can pick it up in Europe or the UK or if there are regions. This is really what it's like to visit Lourdes, what one sees. They had us wearing towels and swimsuits and then, we'd settle into the water. There are people cured I believe whose stories one never hears.

    Watch Lourdes (2009) - Free Movies | Tubi (tubitv.com)

Lourdes webcam, I watch a few different webcams around the world.

Fatima documentary and drama in fact. In the new Fatima movie, not this movie, she shows Her Immaculate Heart, a heart bleeding, that's pretty amazing. I looked for a photo or video clip of it, I could not find it.

Watch Fátima: The Ultimate Mystery (2017) - Free Movies | Tubi (tubitv.com)

(St.) Don Bosco movie with Ben Gazzarra in English. I thought it was good, I believe it is also in Italian in other versions.

I also saw the "Garabandal" movie not too long ago on amazon. I did enjoy that.

    Sainte Bernadette, French movie:

Besides the original, I think this one had two parts, one part for later when she entered the Convent.

For lighter viewing, sports viewing, a Catholic female "Hoosiers" movie, "Mighty Macs" is available for viewing, saw it when it first came out, on Immaculata College in PA. apparently.... these kinds of movies probably are more geared towards, teens, young peoples and so on.

Also based on a real story, French language but English captions,
Watch The Jewish Cardinal (2013) - Free Movies | Tubi (tubitv.com)

THE JEWISH CARDINAL tells the amazing true story of Jean-Marie Lustiger, the son of Polish-Jewish immigrants, who maintained his cultural identity as a Jew even after converting to Catholicism at a young age, and later joining the priesthood. Quickly rising within the ranks of the Church, Lustiger was appointed Archbishop of Paris by Pope Jean Paul II - and found a new platform to celebrate his dual identity as a Catholic Jew, earning him both friends and enemies from either group. When Carmelite nuns settle down to build a convent within the cursed walls of Auschwitz, Lustiger finds himself a mediator between the two communities - and may be forced at last to choose his side.
So, a more serious note, I had heard something about some religious building inside of Auschwitz itself, that has been in the news, so I'd like to see this movie. Yes, there was indeed a real row over an order establishing or maybe "reestablishing" (something might have been there before World War II) their house of prayer.... I need to recheck the details. I will have to try to see this, hopefully some time soon.. I peaked in at the movie...it looks like they do go to Auschwitz...

I finally had some quiet time this weekend and decided that I would spend it watching a good Catholic movie. I found the movie “The Wizard of Heaven” on you tube which is about st JM Vianny the cur de ars. It was a black and white movie I think from 1949. It was incredibly difficult to watch due to degradation of the film, often I wasn’t sure who was talking to whom or who all the people were because it was hard to see their faces. The movie was in French so I spent most of the time reading subtitles. I loved every minute of it.

I can understand the divinity of Jesus but this season also helps me to see him as a man on earth which I had lofty ideas about that....this portrayal of Jesus is so.......human but does not diminish his deity....the messiah.

Documentary : Watch St. Patrick: Pilgrimage to Peace (2020) - Free Movies | Tubi (tubitv.com)

I think the opening is showing a parade in Belfast. Anyway, just posting for those interested. Documentary on St. Patrick, many documentaries are out there on assorted topics.

    On youtube:

Really too many videos, at tubitv, I watched a tiny bit of a documentary, "Deliver Us", it's an Italian film about Exorcisms and Priests.... not some "exorcist" movie, I think after the initial one, you have quite a few horror films. I'd be real careful watching most of these.

The must-see movies from post #1, these are very modern movies it seems to me except mayb4e his last choice, "The Mission", 1986. :

"Doubt" with Meryl Streep, available to view.:

... "The Way" with Martin Sheen....

..."Of Gods and Men" set in Algeria and about those Monks killed there, yes, I saw this, it is good.... I would humbly say not among the best....

    "Calvary", haven't seen this one....

His favorite, "The Mission", I have heard about it, I've never seen it, looks like it is at youtube:

At formed.org they have gotten a handful of the St. Luke productions:

    Saint Luke Productions - FORMED

"Therese, the story of a soul" , it is in full at "Formed.org", not to confuse things, the short video is for the stage show, they do these 1 person stage shows at Churches while at the same time, they made a movie. I have to wonder if Leonardo De Flillipis, St. Luke Productions, I think this is all his, might become a saint some day. Yes, he came by one of our churches and did one of his performances. :

The DVD above is more like a traditional movie, I'd like to see the stage production though, it seems a bit different. Multiple actors in the movie

And a good old fashioned black and white movie, "The Miracle of St. Therese", great movie:

    Love that opening.
