    The priest is as scared as the rest of us and runs down the aisle. I remember feeling like he has abandoned us. The church begins to split apart. Pieces of it crumble -- crushing people.

    I had the dream in the late 1980s. Although my family was Catholic, I went to public schools. I didn't know much about the faith, hadn't attend Mass for several years, and had pretty much rejected religion all together.

    This part of the dream has come to mind more and more over the years. Especially since I came to realize the priest was actually a bishop due to his wearing of the miter, the golden staff, and robes. The way the bishop abandoned the Mass attendees, the confusion and feelings of betrayal it invoked, was a big takeaway from the dream, which I didn't understand back when I had the dream because at the time I didn't give a hoot about the bishops, their leadership skills, or lack thereof.

    After returning to the Church, years later, I had another dream that might be saying the Church is will undergo a horrific pruning, but it is will be God's will for her greater good.

    These two dreams, combined with what's happening in the world now, has me wondering if the Church will be reduced to ruins in my lifetime. Of course, if it is, I have reason to believe it is not the end of the Church, but proof of Gods mercy, a holy renewal.

    Pope Benedict, before he was Pope, spoke about the Church becoming very small.
    It has been posted on the forum before. You are therefore in good company.

    with the synod on synodality that seems to transfer to bishops and laypeople the power of decision will seem that the pope has abandoned his office as pastor of all the faithful.

    I see at the moment two Catholic Parish Parochial Houses up for sale in our Diocese and for sale very cheaply indeed. I guess this is because they are growing broke because of their long time cowardice in closing all the Churches at once and for such a long time. I don;t suppose the Bishop will be selling his own Palace ( and it really is a very large place...estimated as worth several millions) anytime soon.

    After mass I only sit for a while praying, I don't stand around talking. But I do over hear conversations as I pass bye in and out. Last night I heard two gentlemen enquiring of each other if this might be the End of the World? I have heard this kind of talk around the Church several times.

    This is the first time I've seen this thread or read about Rain's dream, which certainly seems prophetic. It's hard to believe the original post was almost 20 years ago. Back when I joined this forum in 2013 I, like many of us, expected events to unfold differently and much sooner than they have. I felt much more prepared 10 years ago than I do now :(

    I feel the same way. 10 years ago I too was better prepared but now there is a drag on my soul. It's harder and heavier. But due to the great evil all about us there is less grace in the world. We have to fight harder. I think of that line from some poem whose title and author I forget: The world is too much with us."

    We must be alert to the wiles of the devil.

    His tactic toward those who lack a spiritual foundation is simply to continue placing before them the temptations to which they are susceptible. To the more disciplined, he plays on their pride on one hand, and on the other cautions them to not go overboard. This why frequent daily Holy Mass and regular confession are such great blessings and defenses. My lack of mobility has truly helped me to to realize the gift that daily Mass during the week offers; its value is beyond compare.

    Dryness in prayer could be caused by my unwillingness to address persistent venial sins in my life, by my unwillingness to submit to the Spirit's prompting to practice a particular corporal or spiritual work of Mercy (for the sake of another), or through simple sloth (kicking the can down the road). A saint I am not.:(:censored: Help!

    Ps 136
    1 O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever.
    2 O give thanks to the God of gods,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever.
    3 O give thanks to the Lord of lords,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever;
    4 to him who alone does great wonders,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever;
    5 to him who by understanding made the heavens,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever;
    6 to him who spread out the earth upon the waters,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever;
    7 to him who made the great lights,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever;
    8 the sun to rule over the day,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever;
    9 the moon and stars to rule over the night,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever;
    10 to him who smote the first-born of Egypt,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever;
    11 and brought Israel out from among them,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever;
    12 with a strong hand and an outstretched arm,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever;
    13 to him who divided the Red Sea in sunder,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever;
    14 and made Israel pass through the midst of it,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever;
    15 but overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever;
    16 to him who led his people through the wilderness,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever;
    17 to him who smote great kings,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever...
    21 and gave their land as a heritage,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever;
    22 a heritage to Israel his servant,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever.
    23 It is he who remembered us in our low estate,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever;
    24 and rescued us from our foes,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever;
    25 he who gives food to all flesh,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever.

    26 O give thanks to the God of heaven,
    for his steadfast love endures for ever.

    I think because there's so much evil in the world, there's actually MORE grace in the world, for those who are asking. It could be that the graces you're earning are being shared abundantly with others, and hidden from you, though they are working silently in your soul producing great fruit.

    There are great saints being forged right now. Just wait.

    It’s from a sonnet by William Wordsworth in which he criticized the First Industrial Revolution.
    “The world is too much with us,
    Late and soon, getting and spending, we lay waste our powers.”
    My college professor would be ecstatic since I remembered that. :D

    One mistake I think we all fall into with prayer (at least I know I do) is to equate success with prayer with emotions. A parent who gets up at night to take care of a crying baby may not feel good about it but it is still an act of love. When I wake in the middle of the night I try to turn my thought to God and the things of God but fail. Nevertheless it is the trying that counts. Perhaps this too is the same as a crying baby at night. The baby might keep crying for a while but it is the trying that counts.

    I love the way St Therese compared the soul to a child's doll. The child may pick the doll up and play with it then throw it away. Therese says that the soul should be just as accepting either way. To be picked up and hugged or to be cast away.

    Again prayer can be like the Irish weather four seasons in the one day. But what really counts is faithfulness and discipline. Again that constant taking care of the baby at night.

    Another way I sometimes think of it is like a river or stream that sometimes runs underground and sometimes gushes above ground. But seen or unseen is always there.

    I was walking towards the railway station in the dark yesterday morning and Jesus said to me joyfully that we would soon be together. By this I knew He meant at Mass and at communion and at confession in the Cathedral. But then I thought that Jesus was present in so many ways. He was present in my heart even then as I walked along the road. He was present as I said the rosary on the train. He was present in all those around me on the train. He was present in the little birds that sat beside me at the cafe.

    Malachi Martin had a great phrase, he spoke of, 'Grace draining from the World'. What a great way of putting it. Another way of looking at it is of everything changing from colour to black and white. Instead of driving along a motorway at high speed we are walking up a steep, stone strewn mountain path in our bare feet. But the positive thing is because we are going uphill all the times we grow very,very strong and our feet very,very hard. :)

    One good thing about getting older is peer pressure no longer matters. But I do feel sorry for the young.

    I used to think that God was allowing things to continue so as to save as many souls as possible (with my own experience being a case in point). Latterly however, I'm of the opinion that He perhaps has no choice but to act - sooner rather than later, because the longer He permits things to continue; the more souls there are that will be lost... Such has evil overtaken good.
    I hope I'm wrong.
