IMPORTANT! -- Francis Effect: The End of the Traditional Latin Mass in St. Peter's Basilica

    https://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2021/03/important-francis-effect-end-of.html

he Traditional Mass used to be celebrated hidden, out of sight, in the crypt of the Vatican Basilica (the Hungarian Chapel) from the days of the motu proprio Ecclesia Dei to Summorum.

Since the 2007 motu proprio Summorum Pontificum, which recognized that the Traditional Mass had never been abrogated (and in fact could never be so), many priests who have celebrated in the several side altars of St. Peter's have done so by using the 1962 Missal. And it was celebrated daily in two of the Basilica's major altars, especially the Altar of Blessed Pope Innocent XI.

Alas, the new order (see below) that has come to the Vatican Basilica has abolished all privately celebrated masses in the upper body of the Basilica (including Novus Ordo masses, which used to be very numerous as well), and has determined that all masses celebrated in the Basilica will have to be (naturally Novus Ordo) concelebrations, liturgically "animated" by "readers" and "singers".

How long must we remain silent in the face of evil.. God give me strength , I was also furious today at a local college removal of mother father etc etc ..

I wonder how long I can remain silent maybe time to start swinging a few home runs... but I have hope I know for sure the good brothers and sisters in Christ will continue for sure .

About 15 years ago, the Episcopal Church (I attended then) had some priests in New England (?) wearing clown makeup and costumes during Eucharist.

Can't remember what the "explanation" of that was...if any...honk honk. {:O-)

I was a little surprised but totally delighted in Rome, the last time I was there, to find the Tridentine Rite being celebrated in St Peter's and the Great Basilica's in the wonderful little side altars there.

I also noticed the Novus Ordo Masses being celebrated much more strictly and much more in accord with the Norms of the Church. So much less of the make it up as you go along stuff we get in Ireland.

I suppose the poor old Traditionalists are victims of their own success. My own Church opened just over a year ago and has been a roaring success. The crowds coming keep getting bigger and bigger and the people and clergy are so devout. It has been heaven for me seeing all this. But at the same time I always knew that this would come at a great price. What would the Bishop and other priests and lay Catholics think of our little community doing such a roaring trade, so to speak?

Well in the first instant they would take it as a stern rebuke. Our Church stayed open when everywhere else was closed. Big problem. This closed so bad for the closed Churches. Why were we open when they were all shut down?

Why were people in their hundreds coming to our Church when in the still open Churches you were seeing such tiny groups?

Why was in our Church folks generally not obsessing about masks and being carried off by the dreaded virus?

    The list goes on..

So I knew the time would come when the boot would be stuck in big time. I might not have expected Our Holy Father the Pope to be leading the pack, but there you go...

This is the story of the saints. They always, always would up by being attacked. You could set your clock on it.

I recall many, many years ago being directly attacked by the devil at night time. I asked him about this and I always recall what he said

    'Take it as a compliment!'

All this s huge blessing and a Sign we too are doing much that is right. The only problem would be if we were not being attacked. That would really, really be something to worry about.

So thank God for a chance to suffer for Christ.:)

Let us pray very much for Our Holy Father the Pope and for all our Bishops.

Recall the words of our Lady of La Salette that the time will come when the Faith will be lost in Rome itself.

    This is that time.

Today I took my son to my childhood parish (very faithful Novus Ordo, we attend every Sunday) for morning Mass, instead of the more liberal one that is a short walk from my house. All the Catholic school kids were there. Spread out for social distancing, they filled the entire church. It was absolutely beautiful, our huge, holy church filled to the brim with praying, singing children. The future of our Church, a great sign of hope.

    aww.

I went to confession last week and I saw two women bringing their children to confession. There must have been ten of them. :)

When I was young there used to be special children's confession.

As a convert, I really know very little Latin. So, I'm have no feeling of it either way. I mean, I've been to exactly one mass done in Latin, and someone had to explain to me everything just about. That was some years ago. I've had no desire since then to go back. I'll take Mass in English over any other language. To be honest, I took a year of Spanish in High School, and struggled to get a C. When in the Army, I was stationed in Germany for awhile, so I learned a little German. But to learn Latin? I did poorly in the two languages I did take, so I'm likely to be a failure in that too. I can understand the attachment to the ritual by those who understand it. But for those of us who don't, if you want us to know it, we have to learn it first.

We are the Latin branch of the Church. It is the official language of the Church, which is why it is so powerful and why satan hates it so much.

I have picked up a little bit of Latin down the years. But I follow along with the mass with my Edward Campion Missal which gives the mass and the readings in both Latin and English, so I understand very well all that is going on. :)

I also have an app on my phone called, 'Imissa' which does the same thing. It also enables me to do the Office of the Church, following along in Latin and English.

In my opinion the Old Liturgy is very, very Superior to the New Rite.
    Why?

Well for a number of reasons. I could go on forever really.

The centre of the Old Rite is God. It is much more prayerful and Contemplative. The Modern Rite is more conversational with more focus on the priest as a kind of President of the Assembly.

The Old Rite is set in Liturgical Amber , it is fixed and unchanging and less open to innovation.

In the Old Rite the scriptural readings are fixed and set in stone, so they can't change Scripture to suit themselves.

In the Old Rite the priest does not get in the way of the mass. He is not a compere inflicting his own thoughts and words. and personality between me and God.

The congregation is much, much more quieter and prayerful and devout.

The music is sublime. Gregorian chant. Non better.

There is such a strong, strong sense of the Numnous, the Holy. As I say I could go on and on...

But I am not Doctrinaire about the Old Rite. If people prefer the Novus Ordo I am fine with that.

So long as I am allowed so sail on with the Old Rite I am fine with people going ahead with the New Rite.

Live and let live. :) The problem being this does not as Pope Benedict wished appear to be happening. Under Pope Francis they appear to want to crush the Old Rite.

But I am an obedient Catholic. If they wish to end the old Rite, what can I do but be obedient? As God Wills.

Tu es Petrus. You are Peter.

But I am entitled to say that this is the work of Satan, the plans of hell coming to fruition.

I will obey. But this is all evil, pure, pure evil.

God writes straight in crooked lines however. I do not believe for a moment God will permit this. Perhaps for a period but not forever. This wickedness..and it is wickedness... will be overturned.

I am convinced these Devils are trying to drive Faithful Catholics, especially Traditional Catholics, into Schism.

I'm not saying we should not have the Latin Mass. It's just that I know very little Latin. I wish I had been able to pick up at least a little. The school where I took my year of Spanish, well the next year they offered Latin. I wanted to sign up for it, but my parents talked me out of it. They pointed out that I had struggled in Spanish, so who was I to take Latin. Besides, the teacher for Latin was the hardest teacher in the school. I'm sure I would have struggled, but maybe I would have learned a little. Anyway, that was years ago. I did go to one Latin Mass, but never had the chance to return. I may have learned something if I kept going, but who knows? I'm not the best of students.

    I like the NO Mass myself and I like the English in the Mass too. 3 years of Latin and I'm still not good at it. I do think exorcisms are stronger and more powerful in Latin as satan recognizes it as the official language of the Church and Latin was supposed to be retained in much of the Mass but much of the time is left out. By the way I found Latin easier than French and Spanish.{no accent required}

Sounds beautiful Padraig, unfortunately there isn't any Traditional Latin Mass within travel distance of me. :(
But I do enjoy the Gregorian chants.:)

While I don’t go to the Latin Mass as often as I would like (distance) I have been lucky enough to go more than several times a year. I LOVE the Latin Mass:love: I use the St Joseph Missal. I find myself much more involved with the mass by following along and reading not just the prayers that are being said but also the side commentary that also explains the significance of every movement of the priest which has helped me appreciate the Mass even more (whether Novus Order or Latin) :) My first Latin Mass there were 9 altar boys - NINE - before that I never could figure out why the priest even needed one - but now I find myself praying for every altar boy to become a faithful priest  While I did take Latin in school - I cannot read it and can’t speak but the most basic prayers (et cum spiritu tuo) but that has not hindered me from following along in my missal and joining in the Mass of the Angels :)

I'm not good at doing this sort of thing on my own. I have two books on learning Latin, but I haven't done much with either of them. I started with the first one, but didn't go very far before getting distracted by other stuff. I guess because my church doesn't offer a Latin Mass so I didn't have any "reason" to learn it. There is a Church here in town that used to offer a traditional Latin Mass on Sundays at noon. I don't know if it's still offered or not. I went just one time, by invitation. The person I went with was nice enough to explain things as it was happening. But I was sure wishing I knew enough Latin to follow along and join in. I think I'd do a better job of learning that if I had someone with the patience and perseverance to teach me. Patience because I can be a pain in the rear, and perseverance because I can be a hard head at times. Ok, almost all the time.

The missals have English on one side of the page and Latin on the other. The order of the Mass is the same.
