I got back home this morning from the Night Shift and took the two dogs out for a quick walk as I usually do.:)

Walking along the side of a busy road I saw two Rottweillers heading in my direction. My heart sank. My two dogs are Japanese Akita's. The Nation Dog of Japan they have been used in war and to hunt bears. I think my biggest weighs in at may 100 lb of pure muscle and when they fight it is to the death, they just don't stop and see big dogs as a threat.

So I grabbed them both by the handles of their harnesses and soldiered on. But of course when the Rotts got near they all reared up and knocked me to the ground, still holding on like grim death.

I fell heavily to the wet cement . A lady came over to help me but I encouraged her and her husband to just take their dogs on. Then another person a young man of about 18 came over to help. Kind people.

I got to my feet shaken and headed on my way, bruised but happy with the way things had turned out. No dog fights.

Suddenly I felt the presence of Jesus standing right beside me and He said,

'I was there with you watching when you fell'.

    He was full of compassion.

I said it was too much of Him to do so, that He had very Great Condescension going to that bother.

He said , 'You have often been with me when I fell'.

I asked Him when and He showed me the times I had said the Rosary at the decades of Jesus falling with His Cross, the Stations of the Cross and the times in the vigils of the Night when I stood watching.

A thought struck me and I asked Him if His Mother was there too? He smiled, looked slightly over His shoulder and said to me,

    'Of course she was!'

I t really struck home to me for the first time. We show compassion to Jesus in His suffering when He fell under the Cross but He is there for us too , when we fall.:):)

    Matthew 27:32

31After they had mocked Him, they removed the robe and put His own clothes back on Him. Then they led Him away to crucify Him. 32
Along the way they found a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross of Jesus. 33And when they came to a place called Golgotha, which means The Place of the Skull,…

I am fine. It was a wonderful Spiritual experience. The lady who went to help me reminded me of St Veronica and the young man of St Simon of Cyrene.

It must be beautiful. Akitas are great guard dogs. a real blessing. But they are soldier dogs, no doubt about it.

Glad you are ok, and your pups too! I have never owned an Akita (my neighbor had one, magnificent animals) but I have owned a Rottweiler and she was one of the sweetest dogs I have had the pleasure of caring for. It's really too bad Hollywood gave them such a reputation as aggressive beasts.

We used to have two Rottweilers, a dog and a bitch, Rebel and Sasha. Gunmen came up the hallway of our house to shoot me one Sunday morning. Sasha had pups and both Rotts seen them off, plus my brother threw a cup of hot coffee in their face. When they got out the neighbours (who were going to Mass) threw bottle and rocks at their car .

    So God bless Rotts.:):)

    Then I had German Shepherds.

    Then Akitas.

Next will be Russian Sheep Dogs (Ocharkas):)

The way things are going I would encourage folks to get a good big dog. They will be worth their weight in gold. Mark my words.

It would be lovely to think that the Holy Family had dogs.

Mary's parents Anne and Joachim were prosperous sheep owners...so..maybe.

Yes, a good large breed dog is a protector for life and as loyal a friend as one will find. I wish my health was decent enough to have another Shepherd but it is just too much for me these days. I will likely get a small breed dog soon, one to hopefully keep my soon to be empty nest wife occupied. :)

Padraig, so glad you are ok! Thank you for sharing this. It was meant for all of us to hear now. What a consolation to us who pray the Rosary daily and meditate on the Suffering and Passion of Jesus.

Well my granny would have you smash two jam jars lol so believed accidents came in threes so she kept the jars just in case lol

When I was in London I had the great pleasure of looking after Murphy for a couple of months he was a rhodesian ridge back very powerful big dog he hated everybody and could be quite mad.. Funny enough he fell in love with me and I was the only one who could control him. His early life was terrible beaten and abused by his owners and only let out of his cage when there was a bar fight so poor dog knew no better.. Apparently when I left London to come home he sat and whined for a few weeks at my bedroom door his new owner couldn't believe it. I'd have loved to take him home but my poor mother would have had a heart attack.. Found memories though fantastic big beautiful dog.. I have a Patterdale now poor dog thinks she is a lion might have to show her a mirror once in a while :D

What an experience Padraig! Good to hear you are okay. My daughter, and son in law recently bought a Rottweiler for protection, and they are working with a trainor. She is a sweet dog, but oh so big and powerful. She doesn't know her own strength, and gets over excited when greeting people and nearly knocks them over. Last week she took off after a squirrel, dragging my daughter behind her. She is beautiful, but scary looking, so they named her Cookie to minimize her aggressive appearance. :D

I've read/heard about Akitas. Have a book about a man (likely deceased now) who quit his business career in Tokyo, moved wife and himself to the mountains and concentrated on raising Akitas.

    Don,

Is your health that much on a steady decline? Prayers! May all of us never forget that death will come and knock at each of our doors. May we be ever in a state of grace and ready to welcome the Lord.

O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee!

It's been over a year since our Wheaton terrier died. In winter time, when he and I would leave the house for a run, I would sometimes say, "Squirrel!" Devin would take off toward the bird feeder
for the squirrels would often raid it. I wish I had a camera on one occasion. The squirrel was leaping for the safety of the maple tree and Devin was leaping for the squirrel with open jaws - missed it by a hair!:barefoot: I do miss the pup!

I wonder does anyone else feel this?

I don't have a problem when I constantly tell Jesus I love Him. That's fine.

But I always feel more than a little surprised when Jesus tells me , 'I love you'.

Doe s anyone else get that?
