Well, I'm 58 and have breathing problems already. I managed to quit smoking almost 10 years ago, but not before developing asthma/COPD. If I get sick with anything, the first thing to go is my breathing. And COVID affects the breathing, along with some other issues. That's why I have two doctors telling me to get the vaccine when offered. I'm still not completely convinced, but due to health issues, I probably will. That hasn't come up yet, but I know it will soon. How soon is anyone's guess. I guess right now my wheels are spinning. I'm a little tired of this going back and forth. I know we will all eventually be judged for all our decisions and stuff. I guess I never thought I'd face such a hurdle.

    Well then you've a choice.

Our Holy Father the Pope says, on the other hand you have no choice.

Pope Francis says if you don't take the vaccine you are suicidal.

    So what's to think about?

Pope Francis has it all worked out

If we don't take it we are all suicidal.

    That's what Popes are for.

    To save us from thinking

    Thank you Holy Father.

Why bother having a brain , when Pope Francis can do our thinking for us?

Oh dear. Our Pope has proven himself to be lukewarm on many non-negotiables and I can look to settled Church teaching when forming my conscience on them, but this leaves me asking whether I'm now obliged to take the vaccine out of obedience to him? Where does prudential judgement fit with this statement from the Pope?

Hi all. Does anybody know if someone comes down with a case of covid are they then immune to it? I have not heard anything said about not needing to get the vaccine if one had previously gotten covid, but for some reason that doesn't surprise me. Don't coming down with an illness from a communicable disease and injection with a vaccine do the same thing, namely, expose the body to a pathogen ("live" in one case, "dead" in the other)? Then after the exposure the body's immune system makes antibodies, right?

I don't think catching COVID makes you immune to it later. I think they thought that you would be, but that seems to have changed because the "antibodies" didn't last or something. Plus, some people who get the virus stay sick for a long time, while others get over it quicker. Don't ask me what the difference is, because I'm not sure the doctors even know. But I've seen stories that say some really "healthy" people can get really, really sick with it. While someone like me might not stand a chance. That's why I'm going back and forth on the vaccine. I mean, I don't want to catch it, but there seems to be problems with the vaccine. Just look at the discussion here. Some people seem to think it's a really big moral issue. Which is why I asked about it in the first place. Too much conflicting advice. I'm not sure what to do now.

True. But is this one of those times where we are obliged to obey him? What about his ordinary magisterium?

You seem to be one of those people covered by the "grave reason" provision. That's the benefitting from intrinsic evil part covered, and you have it direct from the Pope. Your doctor is the person to advise you on the pros and cons of its physical effects.

I will do everything I can to avoid it. I'm concerned now that there really could be a scenario of No Vaccine=No Sacraments. I can't give my opinion of that latest papal pronouncement because I want to avoid another long discussion next time I go to Confession.

I’m not sure. Maybe someone else can answer. I’m inclined not to pay attention to this. To me, this is not a question of faith or morals.

Thanks, Christy. I'm in the same boat as you, going back and forth on what to do. I was just wondering if I happened to come down with it if the decision whether or not to get the vaccine would no longer be relevant.

Christy, I'm not telling you to get it, but if you have serious health issues like COPD and getting covid would be a life or death matter then you would fit in with the "grave reason" argument.

I am not up with all of the latest vaccine options as I am not planning to get it, but if you can choose the vaccine with the least connection to fetal tissue that would be best.

Also does anyone know if there any vaccines that don't have any connection to this line of development? I know there was word a while ago they were developing something along that line.
