Catholic Answers Forum permanently shut down

Discussion in 'Books, movies, links, websites.' started by non sum dignus, Jan 6, 2021.

  1. The forum at Catholic Answers was for many years the largest Christian Forum on the internet.

They closed it December 31st. Catholic Answers (not the forum) continues.

For many years it was a great place for knowledgeable members to discuss all things Catholic. There were top notch apologists, theologians, and many many priests contributing in the early years...Father William Most,
Father John Echert, Fr. John Zulhusdorf (Fr.Z) to name a few. It was great place at one time to soak up knowledge and get orthodox Catholic answers.

Unfortunately, in the last 10 years or so the forum lost all it's best contributors due in part to constant, unrelenting, aggressive posts by disobedient borderline "Catholics". Prudent moderation was lacking.

I hadn't visited in a long time because it had gotten so bad. It is probably best they closed it.
Still it is a shame it could not return to how it had been.

Wow. In my early 20's I used to post on there quite a bit, but I ended up leaving because even then (10+ years ago) the liberal Catholics were there with combative, sneering posts.

Are there any other conservative, faithful Catholic forums like this one?

Yikes, I hope the MoG forum doesn't now fill up with the runoff of that forum looking for a new outlet.

I think Catholic forums/sites are like house plants, they need watered by prayer all the time.:) The devil hates Catholic sites, especially Marian ones.;);)

Happily many good and holy people pray for MoG.

Please say a Hail Mary for this site.

You can actually feel the devil attacking it sometimes. It has to be checked at least once a day.

    Please, pray, pray pray.

But I have to say it seems to be steaming along nicely. Like some very old chundering Catholic parish. Chug, chug , chugging along like the Chatanooga cho cho.

It may have even become a little famous in it's own, very little, sweet way.:):)

If you look at any time of the day or night I would say there are usually maybe 30 or forty good Catholics here. how many Churches or even Cathedrals might boast that?

It's small, but holy I think. very good members. Devout dedicated, peaceful prayerful, very Marian. I love coming here, it is like a visit, it is like going to Church.

I feel Our Lady's presence and protection. This place is her home. It is the greatest source of comfort and joy to me.

Please Our Blessed Lady may it continue for ever and ever, not just for myself but for all good Catholic people who love you.:)

I apologise if I have to appear strict sometimes , but it is a bit like pruning roses. I was taught to prune roses by a very saintly Cisterican monk, who taught me to cut back very hard on the plants. I often thought they would all die but the roses loved this strictness.

Catholic sites are the same I think. It appears hard but is only another name for love. Roses and forums, cut back and they will both thank you for it.:):)

We should pray for those people, they may well be and probably are, lining-up to get the vaccine as we speak...

I used to post on the Catholic Answers Forum, I can't even remember why I stopped. It's sad to hear that they shut down because of some negative people. Like some have already said, I hope they don't show up here to cause problems. And if I ever start to lean that way, please tell me to just shut up, ok? I don't want to be a problem child anywhere, but I have been known to speak out sometimes.

One wonderful thing about the current times is that so many Catholics appear to have woken up. This has been wonderful to see, you can almost see the rivers of Grace flowing.

Another thing is witnessing so many truly holy people. Especially holy and saintly young people. So touching.

  15. Passive, remote, material cooperation can be considered non-sinfull if you have a proptionatly grave reason for it.

But they never make the case for using the vaccine being sufficiently "remote".

The passage of time does not make the use of aborted cells any more "remote". If I come forward and inherit a fortune 10 years after I secretly murder someone, claiming the inheritance 10 years later is no more remote than claiming it immediately.

The cells were stolen from the person aborted, and were stolen by murdering the child.

This is what real remote passive material cooperation MIGHT look like... You use a cancer fighting drug produced by a drug company. The drug company didn't use aborted fetal cells in any stage of development, production, or testing of the drug. However, the company also produced other drugs that utilize aborted cells. Your action (use of the ethically produced drug) might be considered sufficiently remote from the abortion AND stealing of cells because you are not using that drug. The only connection is it is produced by the same company.

Using the ethically produced drug would be much further removed or "remote" from the abortion than using the unethically produced drug from the same company.

An even further removed or "remote" act might be owning a tiny piece of a stock fund that had 1 tenth of 1 percent of it's stock invested in the same drug company.

But using the actual drug that utilizes aborted fetal cells in it's production or testing has to be considered a more proximate (or less remote) association to the abortion.

Is the association of the abortion or the stealing of the cells to the act of taking the vaccine remote enough to make taking the vaccine licit?

The Vatican and U.S. Bishops think it is. I am not sufficiently educated in moral theology to make that call.
Does anyone here have more training in moral theology than the Vatican?

Does anyone here have a greater authority than those chosen by Christ to teach on such matters?

If you agree with the Bishops, you also have to ask, is the risk of infecting myself or others grave and likely enough to justify my (possibly remote), passive, material cooperation?

My wife has diabetes, cancer, and is nearly 60. I once plugged in all her risk factors and she would have an approximate 1 in 8 chance of death if she contracted the virus. So in my case the risk of infection is a grave one.

  16. From the Vatican 2008:

"The document is an Instruction of a doctrinal nature, published by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and expressly approved by the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI. The Instruction therefore falls within the category of documents that “participate in the ordinary Magisterium of the successor of Peter”
    .......

“Of course, within this general picture there exist differing degrees of responsibility. Grave reasons may be morally proportionate to justify the use of such ‘biological material’. Thus, for example, danger to the health of children could permit parents to use a vaccine which was developed using cell lines of illicit origin, while keeping in mind that everyone has the duty to make known their disagreement and to ask that their healthcare system make other types of vaccines available. Moreover, in organizations where cell lines of illicit origin are being utilized, the responsibility of those who make the decision to use them is not the same as that of those who have no voice in such a decision” (n. 35).
    _______________________

Remember this document was "expressly approved by the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI"

Does anyone here claim to be a theologian superior to Pope Benedict XVI?

Does anyone here claim to have more authority to teach on matters of faith and morals than Pope Benedict XVI?

I won't claim to be better educated than anyone here or anywhere else for that matter. But, I did talk to one doctor and expressed my concerns about the vaccine. She said that the cells came from babies lost to miscarriages back in the 1960's. And those cells were multiplied, or whatever you want to call it. These are the cells that are used in the vaccine that I'll probably get. This same doctor said she had gotten the vaccine and had no major ill effects from it. Her arm was sore the next day and she had a day or two where she was really, really tired. That was it. So, she is one of the ones strongly suggesting I get the vaccine due to my risks. I'm still not sure about it, but as the idea of getting the vaccine offered to me is still a ways off, I have time to think about it and discuss it with others. In the end, we must all make the decision that bears in mind the crisis, our risks and our morals. I can't make the decision for anyone else here except myself, and the same can be said for everyone else here. I pray that God gives us the wisdom to do what is best and prudent. May this crises end sooner rather than later. Although it looks like we are to have it for a while longer at least. As getting enough vaccines for those here in America may take a few months.

A great idea for a daily prayer, Padraig: the St. Michael Prayer. When praying it for the forum I will make a minor adjustment near the end: "who prowl about MOG seeking the ruin of souls."

I was listening to a zoom call meeting with a lot of American Jesuits there Terry. The main Jesuit was the guy who platforms Bishop Barron. It was hard for me to make out what they were actually saying, I got the feeling from what a lot of these top IT American Jesuits were saying is that they seemed lost themselves.

    Beaten

I think what they are concerned about are Catholic Trad and Conservative, 'Monsters' who are , 'Frankensteins' and are giving the JEBS a run for their money. The like of , I suppose Taylor Marshall, Michael Voris, Life Site New at al...

..they are all seem lost for such super smart Internet people they seem more than a little lost. Some of these Jesuits are talking about leaving the internet entirely.

Interesting to hear what the Jesuits are saying and what they are all up to. I hate to call them the enemy, but well....the way Jesuits think is not the way I think

You make a better argument in favour of taking the vaccine than that CA apologist. The best he could manage was comparing it to the pizza delivery guy watching porn.

What do you think of people being told that to keep their job they must take the vaccine? That's what Roy Schoeman says happened to his wife's friend who works in a seminary.
