BREAKING: Vatican Source Says Pope Francis To Step Down

A source close to the Vatican has reported that Pope Francis will be stepping down from the Papacy before the end of the year. There is “no doubt” the Pontiff “will resign in 2020”, the source confirmed.

Pope Francis became head of the Catholic Church following the unexpected resignation of Pope Benedict XVI in 2013 and has been unpopular among U.S. Catholics for his radical stances on same-sex marriage, illegal immigration, and global warmingas well as his support for Black Lives Matter.

    The Daily Express reports:

The 83-year-old became head of the Catholic Church following the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI – a controversial move and the first of its kind in more than 500 years. However, a source close to Pope Francis claimed he would only serve for seven years, stating he would follow in the footsteps of his predecessor. Austen Ivereigh is the former Director for Public Affairs of the previous Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor and continues to work closely with the Vatican.

He said: “I don’t think there’s ever been any doubt that he will resign in 2020.

“He made clear from the beginning that he regarded Pope Benedict’s (XVI) act as a prophetic act of great modesty and he would have absolutely no problem in doing the same.

“What was interesting was he said to Mexican television in 2014 that he believed that he would have a short papacy of about five years.

“What I’m hearing now from people close to him is that he’s going to need seven years to achieve his five-year plan and that, of course, would mean staying on until 2020.”

If Mr Ivereigh is correct, it suggests Francis could resign after Christmas so as to avoid letting his papacy run into 2021.

Speaking in a lengthy television interview with the Mexican programme ‘Noticieros Televisa,’ the Pontiff responded to a question from journalist Valentina Alazraki about the length of his papacy.

He said: “I have the feeling that my pontificate will be brief.

”Four or five years. I do not know, or two, three. Well, two have already passed.

“It’s like a little vague feeling, but I have the feeling that the Lord puts me [here] for a brief thing and not more.”

‘No doubt’ Pope will resign after Christmas as Francis vowed to ‘follow Benedict’
POPE FRANCIS will step down before the end of the year, according to a source close to the Vatican, who said there was "no doubt" the Pontiff "will resign in 2020".

The 83-year-old became head of the Catholic Church following the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI – a controversial move and the first of its kind in more than 500 years. However, a source close to Pope Francis claimed he would only serve for seven years, stating he would follow in the footsteps of his predecessor. Austen Ivereigh is the former Director for Public Affairs of the previous Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor and continues to work closely with the Vatican.

Speaking in a lengthy television interview with the Mexican programme ‘Noticieros Televisa,' the Pontiff responded to a question from journalist Valentina Alazraki about the length of his papacy.

He said: “I have the feeling that my pontificate will be brief.

”Four or five years. I do not know, or two, three. Well, two have already passed.

"It's like a little vague feeling, but I have the feeling that the Lord puts me [here] for a brief thing and not more.”

Continuing on the theme, Ms Alazraki asked the Pope – then 79 – about the idea of resigning at 80.

He responded: "I believe that the Papacy has something of last instance. It is a special grace.

"I am not of the idea of putting an age on it, but I am of the idea of what Benedict did."

If the comments are anything to go by, then the Pope will retire in the next two weeks.

But he has committed to several events over the next few days, during one of the most important periods of the Christian calendar – Christmas – as billions celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

Francis will mark the occasion with the Vatican's traditional Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve but will begin the liturgy at 7:30pm local time so that the few people invited to attend can get home in time to observe Italy's 10pm curfew.

And the Pope's Christmas blessing "urbi et orbi" (to the city and the world) will be given, as usual, at noon on Christmas Day from the balcony of St Peter's Basilica.

Therefore, he would be left with a window of less than a week if Mr Ivereigh’s prediction is anything to go by.

In their announcement of his festive plans, the Pope's next event does not fall until December 31, 2020, which is an address from St Peter’s Basilica to “thank God for the past year”.

However, the writer also said the Pope’s comments should not be taken as fact.

He added in 2013: “He knows he is in the hands of God and so none of this is predictable.

“You can look at it two ways, I mean politically you could say it is quite clever because he’s also signalling to those people who do want to see a change in the church, that there isn’t much time.

“He’s putting salt on the tail of everyone saying ‘we need to get this done,’ so I think you can take (his plan) both ways.

“Some of his opponents are waiting for him to go and they will be encouraged by this.

“At the age of 79, we are talking here about him stepping down in his Eighties, in the year 2020, there aren’t many men, frankly, who are capable physically, let alone mentally, of leading a massive institution with all the demands that the papacy brings.”

  3. This story is built on quotes that are a year old.

I think they are trying to put a sensational headline from a year old story that didn't pan out.

Two cardinals close to Pope Francis have tested positive for Covid-19, a day after the pontiff exchanged Christmas greetings with senior staff, a Vatican source said today.

Polish cardinal Konrad Krajewski, who manages the Pope's charities and has the title of the Vatican's almoner, 'tested positive for Covid-19', Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said.

The 57-year-old, known as the Pope's 'Robin Hood' for his work with the poor and the homeless, had symptoms of pneumonia and is being treated at a hospital in Rome.

Officials are still seeking to identify his recent contacts, but he is known to meet with the Pope regularly.

Italian cardinal Giuseppe Bertello, 78, the governor of Vatican City, tested positive and is believed to be in self-isolation in his home in the Vatican, the source said.

Does anyone, apart from apostate Jesuits and pantheistic Franciscans, care at this stage? I don't. Two men in the Vatican wearing white cassocks and neither wants to be the Vicar of Christ. Why not let Netflix, the gay Russian and five times married "Catholic" Scorsese have a stab at it. It should go down a treat with the atheists and Masons.

St Bridget of Sweden says in he , 'Revelations' , that not only have we a Guardian Angel but we also have a tempter Demon a, specific demon who is with us all through life to try to drag us off to hell.

Now both these, the good angel and the demon will naturally work on , for good or ill on who and what we are.

In the case of the Jesuits this great quality would be to be actively apostolic, to work with the world in trying to change it. The great danger being that in trying to change the world that they become part of it. That is what their Tempter Demon has led them into .

In the case of the Franciscans their Tempter Demon has led them from loving Creation to Worshiping it as Creator. Hence Pachama.

Best not to dwell on these things. It can be soul destroying. Just sit on your hands and bite your tongue the first time you're at Mass and the priest advises you to get Netflix so you can watch the Pope. Do you think all the monasteries and convents will take out a subscription?

Yes I am afraid I am a big fan of cancel culture as far as the Vatican is concerned.

    A big, big fan.

I try to leave it to others to take out the garbage.:)

Though recently I have found it fascinating how, 'radical ' people like the Papal Posse, Ralph Martin and Scott Hahn (for instance ) have become (in comparison to their previous positions).

Before they were crying , now they tend to scream out loud in full voice.

The garbage could destroy a person's faith. There's no point adopting the the "cover your father's nakedness" approach because so many of our fathers are streaking their nakedness wherever they get the biggest audience. It would be comical if it weren't so harmful.

People like Scott Hahn are, to borrow an American expression, a day late and a dollar short. Their voices could have made a difference when Amoris Laetitia attacked sacramental marriage and the Eucharist. Their screams have no impact now.

Best pray for the Church. While we can't ignore the Pope's dismantling of the Deposit of Faith, we need to be more careful how we talk about him. Pope Francis and his apologists have brought me to tears in the past. Crying time is over. We'll just have to wait him out. We might have to wait out one or more of his successors. I'm glad I'm old.

I believe that he would not resign now mainly for two reasons:
    1. people are waiting for your spiritual counseling in the midst of the difficult time of the pandemic.
    2. it would be very difficult to organize a conclave now with restrictions for agglomerations.

I have pressed the ignore button on the goings-on in the Vatican a long time ago. It's soul destroying looking and dwelling on it. Focus on the Lord. I notice though that many people are waking up.

Pope Francis does not seem like the type to willingly abdicate the throne. The global communist elites would be very sad to see him go. Unless, of course, they have someone 'even better' waiting in the wings.

I think so too. He would not resign anymore than say, Joseph Stalin o r Mao Tse Tung ever would or come to that any politician ever really wants to.

It seems to me Pope Francis is profoundly political rather than spiritual in his essential nature.

He has the Big Apple in his hands. He's not about to drop it and head for a Nursing Home, no matter what he may say. He likes it too much. They all do.

Look at Joe Biden of Nanci Pelosi for instance. They should both be sitting on rocking chairs watching the sunset and the grand kids.
