CHRISTMAS WITH FAMILY - YES OR NO?

I'm wondering, regardless of the lockdown and restrictions as to whether we can have anyone over for Christmas, how many are getting together and celebrating with family anyway?

After our premier's announcement of a province wide lockdown and a plee because of overwhelmed hospitals, we cancelled the celebrating with our children. But they aren't happy and I feel like I'm caving to authorities and not sure what to do.. what are you doing for Christmas?

We did the same thing here. Our children are sad and so are we but we have decided to "shelter in place" and stay safe.

My kids are coming over. Lockdowns are not going to stop me from celebrating Christmas with my family. Why is everyone so afraid of a virus that is no more lethal than the flu and has a 99.9% recovery rate for those under 70??? God will take you through covid or a car accident - when it's your time to go! Where is your faith? So what if you get a flu for a few days. Offer it up! TRUST in GOD!

We are having a modified Christmas. My mother will be coming the day before for a visit so as not to be exposed to others in our family who are high risk for infection due to their jobs. She was hospitalized and her lungs are now permanently damaged from pneumonia so we are basically trying to accommodate her as well as all the other family members who are all staying home by their own choice. They have health concerns and are considered high risk. We will be making our traditional dinner for them all and will box it up and take it to them.
We will still have dinner and family over but it will be a smaller group.
I don't share the concerns of my elder family members and to be honest I would rather spend a spectacular Christmas together with my family than lock myself away like so many are. Of course I don't tell them that. But that is me and they have every right to their own decisions. We will just accommodate them as much as possible and love them.

I was going to go visit my sister in Oklahoma and saw my neurologist on Friday and told her. She yelled at me to not go. I have never had a Dr. yell at me before. I am high risk and so is my husband, so we cancelled our plans and will stay home. Our son is coming over for dinner, but he has been off work all week due to kidney stones, so I don't think he is a threat. So, you gotta do what you gotta do.

    Family?

    What is this "family"?

Not intending to be self-pitying: My family are 1,300 miles away and husband's are local but estranged. So it's we two and two cats.

COVID isn't impacting us in this regard, at all, except for possibly delaying meeting my sister-in-law's new guy (I pray this works out for them).

I will be visiting with my sisters and brother (and their families) at my dad's house. We are all relatively young and healthy, and it is important to us that our children get to be with their cousins and experience the traditions of family at Christmas. There will be 7 cousins ranging in age from 4 months to 11 years, plus one of my sisters is pregnant. :) We haven't let Covid stop any family visits, except when we were forbidden by a shutdown back in the spring. I do believe we should obey reasonable authority. But as for fear of the virus itself... I place it in God's hands and continue to live as I believe He created us to live, among family, without fear.

It's a risk but a risk of love.

I do believe God will honour this. By definition the whole Christian life is a risk. Love is the biggest risk of all. There are times when we must step out in Faith.

If I risk going to Church to be with my Brothers and Sisters there why would I not risk being with the Personal Church of my own family.

We're all going to die. Sooner or later. There's no avoiding it. Dying in an act of love would not be such a bad way to go.

I am not afraid of dying. I would be very afraid of living my life in constant fear.

As to the rest of them well if they are prepared to make such choices well so am I.

I still believe in Divine Protection, better than any mask or injection.

Me and my two younger children and husband will be celebrating the holiday here at home. Normally, we would go to my mom's house but I decided to pass on this year. My dad who just turned 85 today, has a very compromised immune system and actually ended up in the hospital the day after Christmas last year. He caught a virus and ended up with Pneumonia then the rest of us followed by getting sick as well. Anyhow, we decided it is best because my children are 19 and 21 and still see friends, my daughter has a boyfriend and son has a girlfriend. We just don't want to risk my dad's health at this time after last year's experience. Dr. said that if we wouldn't have taken him into the hospital when we did last year, we could have lost him. I also think that my children make my mom nervous because she knows they still have a social life. I want my parents to feel safe even though this is a very difficult decision for all of us.

No great changes this year for most of my family. The government guidance here has been to limit social contacts to two or three households. We had been doing that anyway since the beginning of the covid outbreak. We're fortunate in that all but one of my older siblings have children living nearby. The one whose children don't live near her will spend Christmas with her son who lives closest to her and not so far away that she couldn't get to the hospital in an emergency. She's elderly, has cancer and will be on chemo pills for the rest of her life. Every Christmas is a bonus for her now, so spending what could be her last Christmas without seeing any of her children is out of the question. I'm a little concerned because there will be two people from that household going out to work throughout the Christmas season but they are very careful and will be extra careful around her so, with the help of God, she'll be ok.

So true. If I weren't high risk nothing would stop me from being with my family but I am the poster child for high risk. So.....

For Christmas, our youngest, Daniel remains with us; then Therese, Johnny and 1 yr-old Jack visit on New Years' weekend; then Patrick shows up for a few days around the Epiphany. 50% of the kids is a great percentage these days!(y):D

    O come, all ye faithful!

“A risk of love”, yes Padraig this describes our Christmas situation perfectly. We have not seen our son since last Christmas. As I type this post, we are on route to pick up our son at the Amtrak station in Boston. He was tested for Covid before he left NYC, and he already has an appointment to be tested again here in Massachusetts. Our daughters, and son in law were also tested. I am concerned about the risk, but felt compelled to have the family for Christmas dinner. With our country on shaky ground, I don’t know if we will have the opportunity to be together as a family in the New Year. We are planning to do a family photo as a remembrance. I respect and understand those who have made the decision to have a very quite Christmas, everyone has their own circumstances to deal with, you have to follow your heart. :)

My nephew Stephen came home for Christmas. he got back to Ireland before all the airlines shut down from England because of the new virus strain/ My sister Grainia had given up hope and burst out crying when she saw him. :)

    Moms are always moms.:)

It's true people must make their won decisions but too often we have become robotisied and are doing as Governments tell us.

God bless every family here in a special way this Christmas and give special graces and love to all families regardless of their difficulties. Rejoice always in the Lord and trust in Him. We entrust the souls of our loved ones to Mother Mary and Jesus.
Merry Christmas to all when it gets here in a few hours.
