Speaking in tongues -- There was so much serious controversy in my childhood Protestant denomination (VERY frowned upon for suspicion) that I seldom think about it. I also later attended a private Bible college which forbade speaking in tongues; Pentecostal students were made to understand that during the admissions process.

Around 1994, husband wanted to attend a charismatic church. My conditioning kicked in. Attended with him anyway. At one point, just as I was relaxing into the service and everyone was standing at this point, a woman three pews behind us suddenly began SHOUTING in tongues. It so startled me that my knees actually buckled. :X3:

If it's a gift from the Spirit, so be it, but I never miss not witnessing it.

    TMC,

The section of Scripture you speak of is from 1 Corinthians:

12: 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good...to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are inspired by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.

Above, St. Paul distinguishes between speaking in tongues and interpreting tongues. They are separate gifts. Later in Chapter 14, Paul expands this teaching:

4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. 5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than he who speaks in tongues, unless some one interprets, so that the church may be edified.

All gifts are inspired by the Holy Spirit for a benefit. One who speaks in tongues allows the Holy Spirit to inspire a prayer to God, but such a tongue is private, and does not benefit the Body at large. When a tongue is proclaimed in the midst of a prayer meeting to be interpreted, one with the gift of interpretation can then translate it; the combination then becomes a prophecy.

This second point is what Paul teaches in v.5.

Safe in the Barque of Peter!

I reckon he's more likely to choose a public figure who has been loyal to him. Are there any Evangelical politicians on his short list?

  4. If Trump looses and the Republicans loose the majority in the Senate, the Democrats are planning on "packing the court"...

Adding justices to the Supreme court. Probably adding 2 new liberal, activist Justices for a total of 11 rather than the current 9. A backhanded way of gaining a majority on the court.

    Unfortunately it is allowed.

It is important to remember primarily this is a spiritual battle. And no doubt evil will fight using every weapon. Remember he is a liar and a MURDERER. His followers will not hesitate to lie and....

Yes, but I don't think the public on EITHER side will stand for it, just as they REALLY didn't want FDR to pull the same stunt back in the 30's.

I think they'll have better luck putting in a law requiring resignation after XX years on the bench. Then it's not "packing the bench", it's "imposing term limits."

I am going to wonder if the President might wind up turning Catholic. :)

    Stranger thing shave happened.

I Will Shake Your Courts!' Words for America and the Supreme Court"

Prophetic Word Spoken by Hank Kunneman on October 26, 2016:

"I will bring compassion on the Supreme Court as it changes" says the Lord!

"Your Supreme Court will change for I am the Supreme Judge." God says, "Watch, for I will raise up, when there is a vacancy of two and then three," the Spirit of Grace says, "there shall be a woman that I shall place there at the high court and this shall be a compassionate woman," says the Lord, "and it shall be her compassion for the right for the unborn to live that shall overturn and topple the laws that have aborted the innocent. What does a nation look like filled with glory? Can you see it? Can you see it?" says the Lord.

Boy, this nomination of Mrs. Barrett has sure brought a spotlight to the blatant religious bigotry of the democrats, socialists, and communist sympathizers in America.

Lagoa’s last Senate confirmation was 80-15 including 27 Democrats. Barrett had a much more difficult confirmation and a lot closer vote. I don’t understand why Trump is doing this the hard way. Another circus Senate hearing is coming.
And it would have been nice if Kavanaugh was more stoic during his circus.

Imagine Christ acting like Kavanaugh after being wrongly condemned to die.
All Kavanaugh had to lose was a confirmation.

Okay yeah “Trump is keeping Barrett and Lagoa in his back pocket” I don’t want to hear it. I’ll bet Barrett and Lagoa have more courage alone than Kavanaugh and Gorsuch put together.

Kavanaugh cried and whimpered like a kid that didn’t want to go to his first day of school in kindergarten and Gorsuch wimped out on the Sodom & Gomorrah Decision.

Trump could have pushed Lagoa through without a hearing.

    Gorsuch and Kavanaugh?
Mother Theresa had more moxie than the two of them put together will ever have.

What baffles me is how Jewish politicians are so quick to dehumanise unborn babies in support of abortion. Wasn't that a tactic used by the Nazis during the Holocaust - that Jews were subhuman?

While watching the Barrett hearings it hit me like an ice cold slap in the face... that the matter of Abortion... aka Roe v Wade.... will never be ended by the rule of ANY law whether mandated by the State, the Federal or finally the Supreme Court.

It WILL ,I think, eventually FALL of its own horrible, despicable, evil weight!!! You cant go on forever with slaughter of your very own selves. The blinding of the collective eyes of people by the evil one has to fade away at some time or other. The eyes and hearts of all of mankind must and will finally be laid open... opened either by the "Illumination of Conscience" (The Warning) or just plain old common sense!! REALITY has to set in sooner or later!

Having said that... put yourselves (just for a minute ...unbearable to be there any longer) in the shoes of these clever, articulate, learned?? men and women who are today ...here on TV... demanding that this cruel, tortuous murder be inflicted upon innocent little babies!!!! They wholeheartedly put themselves "out there" for all to see and hear.... smugly claiming a "women's right to choose" or proclaiming that this evil deed is indeed "settled law".

BUT...but...when this "enlightenment" finally occurs in the hearts of us all, its going to be very painful moment for all of us, but the pain that these foolish people will have to endure will be "off the charts."

Imagine the remorse and anguish that they will have to endure! ....talk about the "grinding and gnashing of teeth"!! They will call upon the "mountains to cover them" but there is no place they can go to escape from themselves! What they have done will be captured for all to be reminded of on endless re-runs of these "auspicious" hearings. Woe to them...doesn't cover it!

Julia Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

Sadly I believe people who have accepted infanticide under the mantle of a woman's right to choose, are not capable of seeing that a little helpless human being has been mercilessly slaughtered and torn limb from limb for the sake of convenience, either financial or social, depending on the whim of the disordered expectant mother who reserves the right to use her body for entertainment instead of nurturing new life. And the devil will blind her into thinking there are no consequences.

But woe to the society that fails to warn young people male and female of their responsibility with regard to procreating the next generation. And aren't we seeing all around us how nature itself is in rebellion against a humanity that ignores our Creator and His wise Laws, "Thou Shalt Not Kill."

Amy Coney Barrett is a classy, intelligent lady. I wonder whether the people opposed to her realised how they showed their own shortcomings by using the hearing for partisan political grandstanding. There were times that Mrs. Coney Barrett must have felt like she had wandered into a remedial class by mistake, especially when the woman from Hawaii had her turn. They all seemed to confuse the role of judge with that of legislator.
