He reminds me so very, very much of Matt Talbot. I have only started watching but am really, really looking forward to hearing Greg's story tonight. God is full of surprises.:):)

He reminds me of Marino Restreppo, not in his childhood experiences and how he grew up; but in the way Jesus instructs him on an ongoing basis.

I would love to know more about Matt Talbot. All I knew, he was an alchaholic and he went into the Church and sat down and kept watch most of the time before the Blessed Sacrament in the Tabernacle. I remember when I was young and heard how easy it was to become a saint, and decided to do what Matt Talbot did. Well I was sitting there looking at the Tabernacle waiting for this sainthood. As I sat there I glanced at the light that burns when Jesus is in the Tabernacle, and realised it had gone out. I thought to myself, Jesus is not having any of my attempt to be a saint in this fashion, so I got up and left, and waited for another way to get to Heaven/sainthood.

Of course I realise it just so happened the oil ran out in the lamp or the candle had burned out and needed replacing. But at the time I took it to be a sign, Matt Talbots way to sainthood was not for Julia. Sigh. I did later see the funny side of it. I hope Jesus, laughs when He remembers too.

Matt Talbot is very like St Catherine Laboure, in that he was very private indeed. So he never wrote about himself or spoke about his won Spiritual Life. So we have to kind of gather the scraps of information from others to piece his life together.

    But here are a few things;

The Holy Mother of God seems to have visited him on a regular basis.

He lived a very very Penetential life indeed, right up there with the Cure of Ars, maybe even more so.

He was very very charitable indeed with the little money he had giving most of it to the missions.

He was virtually uneducated but under Jesuit instruction seems to have read widely and deeply. He had a very deep wisdom; he thought deeply about things.

He seems to have come under direct attack from the devil.

He was very sympathetic to the working man and supported the workers right to strike, indeed one lady in his Parish called Matt, 'That old Communist'.;)

He prayed everywhere and always. He even used to hide behind the wood stacks to pray.

I think Matt would have naturally had a very foul temper but through the grace of God overcame this. He is a great example of the Grace of God overcoming weakness.

He was a hidden soul. Hidden souls take time. I have read several books about him .He takes time to work out.

Nevertheless I think several people who knew him guessed he was a saint. But he was very, very hidden indeed. If they had not found those chains he was wearing no one would ever have known.

But anyway if you compare this old photo of Matt Talbot to Greg Dunne, I think they even look alike.:):)

Especially the eyes. The eyes being the gateway to the soul. His eyes are exactly like Greg's.

    Luminescent.

I think one great sign of a saint is that they surprise. A saint is never boring. Just as God is never boring . Evil has a false glamour but in the end bores.

Hell is Eternal boredom. A never ending grayness. A bog of lost dreams.

I had to go into you tube to see what those people were chanting, I could not believe what I was hearing.

It was truly a sight from hell. We are told that in hell God is cursed the whole time, just like those rioters.

May the most holy, most sacred, most adorable, most incomprehensible and ineffable Name of God
be forever praised, blessed, loved, adored and glorified in Heaven, on earth, and in hell by all the
creatures of God, and by the Sacred Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ, in the Most Holy Sacrament
    of the Alter. Amen.

Reposting Bartimeaus original post. An awesome testimony from Greg Dunne which seems to have gone off track.:)

Jesus said, seek and you will find. I promise you if you watch this video, you will see how Jesus does a lot of the seeking Himself, and Greg is living proof.

God has a wonderful sense of humour choosing a Dub to communicate His message of love.

Loved the video. Hidden Ireland at its best. I still believe the grace of God is moving powerfully in Ireland. God has not abandoned us.

I have to say I laughed out loud when Greg said he realised his father wasn't in hell. He's a great character, a lovely man and a Godly man.

I have a severe bout of spiritual envy when I think of Greg.
... And I can just imagine the belly laughing in Heaven as the sanctuary lamp went out... I bet they're still laughing Julia

I wanted to go back and watch the video about Greg Dunne's testimony again, and it seems to say NO 'private!'

Can anyone help to find this testimony again, so we can share it on the forum.

It was awesome. Bartimaeus posted it originally.

That is one very cute story to Sainthood Julia! I could just visualize a young girl sitting there waiting on the Holy Spirit! And yes, Jesus must have had a very big grim on His face...He had to have loved your sincere effort! Thanks, I enjoyed this!
I’ll probably think of it each time I go to adoration...and I’ll asked God for the same grace. Who knows, maybe He will honor our intentions...but modify the terms...:p

Thank you for finding this link Te Deum, I really loved this video. :) I could listen to Greg for hours, he is truly overflowing with graces from God. Such a humble man, and what a wonderful sense of humour. God surely knows how to pick the good ones, doesn't He?
