Amelia of Fatima

I know the story of Fatima well. I once read when the virgin was asked (a couple of girls in the village had passed away recently Ameila and Maria I think) The virgin was asked if they went to heaven. Maria is in heaven but ameila wi'll be in purgatory till the end of the time. Let us pray for Amelia.
Let us pray for our youth even any age to stay away from immoral books and entertainment. God bless you all.

 

Yes! The Fatima story of Amelia should certainly send chills down all of our spines. Given her young age, you’ve got to wonder what sins she committed that landed her in purgatory until the end of time. Pretty scary .
Good reminder for all of us to be mindful of our lives in light of our own age....? Just eternally grateful for the sacrament of confessions...literally. Thank you also for the reminder to pray for Amelia.....

 

I'll fulfill the requirements for a plenary indulgence on her behalf. With the treasure of indulgences, I can't see Mary's statement as being absolute.

Yes, given the sircunstances, if a 20 year old girl in the beginning of the XX Century would have to remain in Purgatory until the end of times, it´s hard to imagine todays generations, bombarded with trash (not to say another adjective) material everywhere (media, cell phones, Internet, etc. since childhood).

St. Gertrude the Great is invoked often, for prayers for the poor souls in purgatory. She had a deep empathy for those souls in purgatory, and would ask God at each mass to have mercy on them. Our Lord told St. Gertrude the Great that the following prayer would release 1,000 Souls from Purgatory each time it is said. The prayer was later extended to include living sinners as well.

“Eternal Father,
I offer You the most precious blood
of thy Divine Son, Jesus,
in union with the Masses said
throughout the world today,
for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory,
for sinners everywhere,
for sinners in the universal Church,
for those in my own home,
and in my family. Amen.”

Whenever Saint Mechtilde recited this prayer, she saw legions of souls from Purgatory ascending to Heaven.

“To think that it is possible to say prayers that are finer and more beautiful than the Our Father and Hail Mary is to fall prey to the strange illusion of the devil.” (St. Louis, SR, pt.77)

I will offer up my hour of Adoration this week for Amelia. I'm confident Our Lady's assertion concerning "till the end of time" was not absolute, but more an indication of the degree of Amelia's burden of temporal punishment. I don't doubt that many plenary indulgences have already been offered for the repose of her soul; may the Lord apply mine to whom He chooses.

How I wish Catholics everywhere would adhere to the teaching of the Little Flower: Purgatory is avoidable as we focus more on the Love and Mercy of Jesus rather than God as Judge. Trust is the key!

5. Love banishes fear. The question of whether Heaven will follow right after death is a question of trust. God does not need our merits in order to take us straight to Him but He needs all of our trust. Or the other way around--it is not -our sins that can prevent God from giving us this grace but rather our lack of trust. Therefore, we must draw the conclusion that everything depends solely on trust. There is no trust without perfect love. And vice versa, there is no love without trust. And this is exactly what the Apostle John writes in his first letter, "In this is love perfected with us, that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as Teaching of St. Theresa of Lisieux on Purgatory Page 4 of 8 http://www.franciscan-ofs.net/ap/litfwrpu.htm 2/8/2015 He is so are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and he who fears is not perfected in love" (1 Jn. 4:17-18). This text enlightens our topic very much. Judgment Day is the day of our death. Whoever achieves perfect love at the moment of their death sees God as so merciful and generous that they cannot believe in punishment in Purgatory. We are dealing with the same kind of grace in the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. St. Thomas Aquinas teaches us that this Sacrament has as its real fruit the wiping out of punishment due to our sins.15 After those who have received the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, others present often notice that the sick enter a period of growing peace and trust, together with a great surrender to the Will of God, and even serenity and desire for Heaven. This also applies to those who up to that point did not believe or even lived in mortal sin. Even these people, as the great theologians of the scholastics say--for example, St. Albert the Great or St. Bonaventure--go straight to Heaven without having to go through Purgatory first. This shows the wonderful grace coming from the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.


Safe in the Merciful Heart of Jesus! Increase my trust!

 

Obviously, the writer of the article concerning the Little Flower goes off on a tangent when bringing up the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. It is a tremendous gift and grace, yet in one respect I hesitate to fully embrace the above highlight. As chaplain, I've been at the deathbed of many Catholics. There is usually a tremendous concern in the children of faithful Catholics to ensure that Dad or Mom receive the Anointing of the Sick, even when the younger generation themselves do not practice the Faith. They are treating the Sacrament like an insurance policy; a guarantee of eternal bliss. Their parent might have received the Sacrament a week before, but the children are often seeking a repeat just before the parent dies. Please avoid such an attitude and seek to perceive the Sacrament as a sweet and loving encounter with God.

Jesus I trust in You!

 

Our Lady in Fatima said “Men must not offend Our Lord any more for he is already too much offended”. And that was at the start of the 20th century... There have been subsequent warnings from Garabandal, Akita, Medjugorje and other places since reiterating the same message. Seems like Our Lady is trying to get a point across!

What do you think was Amelia's sin that made her stay in Purgatory for a long time?

 

I've always thought it was a sin of impurity perhaps or that she may have engaged in some gossip during her life. Just a guess I have, for some reason.

 

On a side note, interesting story Padre Pio. He was once asked to bless a house. He refused because he said the occupants were saying bad things about their neighbors. He said "there are snakes in this house" and refused to bless it!

 

I think if the Mother of God said she will be in purgatory till the end of time, then that is the absolute truth, as Mary says nothing that is outside of God and only speaks God's truth. I believe there are many levels of purgatory from the lowest level being like hell to the highest level close to heaven. I always remember the parable of Lazareth and the rich man. Lazareth went to the bright abode of Abraham. Abraham is in heaven now, but I think the souls can rise through the levels with our prayers. St Faustina said the worse suffering they have is not being in the presence of God. Oh, Mirjana of Medjugorje said people in purgatory are allowed only to pray as much as they prayed on earth, so that leaves a lot of souls unable to pray at all. So we can pray for Amelia and I think help raise her up the levels and ease her pain and suffering.
The eighth day of the Divine Mercy novena;

"Today bring to Me the Souls who are in the prison of Purgatory, and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. Let the torrents of My Blood cool down their scorching flames. All these souls are greatly loved by Me. They are making retribution to My justice. It is in your power to bring them relief. Draw all the indulgences from the treasury of My Church and offer them on their behalf. Oh, if you only knew the torments they suffer, you would continually offer for them the alms of the spirit and pay off their debt to My justice."

Most Merciful Jesus, You Yourself have said that You desire mercy; so I bring into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls in Purgatory, souls who are very dear to You, and yet, who must make retribution to Your justice. May the streams of Blood and Water which gushed forth from Your Heart put out the flames of Purgatory, that there, too, the power of Your mercy may be celebrated.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls suffering in Purgatory, who are enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. I beg You, by the sorrowful Passion of Jesus Your Son, and by all the bitterness with which His most sacred Soul was flooded: Manifest Your mercy to the souls who are under Your just scrutiny. Look upon them in no other way but only through the Wounds of Jesus, Your dearly beloved Son; for we firmly believe that there is no limit to Your goodness and compassion. Amen.

Purgatory Is Real

Then Lucia asked about two young women who had recently died. They were friends who had stayed at her house while one of her older sisters taught them how to weave. Lucia asked our Lady: “Is Maria Neves already in heaven?” Our Lady answered: “Yes, she is.” Maria was about sixteen years old when she died. Then Lucia asked about Amelia, who had been between the ages of eighteen and twenty. Our Lady’s answer was startling: “She will be in purgatory until the end of the world.” It was later learned that Amelia died in circumstances involving immoral behavior. Only God knows why she would be in purgatory until the end of the world. To be in purgatory, she must have been sincerely sorry for her sins when she died; however, she probably did not have sufficient time before her death to make satisfaction for all the temporal punishment due to these sins.4 The fate of Amelia is a powerful reminder to practice the virtues of a Christian life and to do penance now, while we have the chance, so that when we die we may go as quickly as possible to heaven.

Apostoli was born Joseph Dominic Apostoli on July 3, 1942 in Woodbury, New Jersey, and was the second of four boys. He first encountered Capuchin Franciscan friars at his parish in 8th grade and was inspired by their joy.
“I felt that the brothers were joyful and I wanted the joy that I saw,” he told the Catholic Herald in 2015.

He met Archbishop Fulton Sheen while attending high school seminary, and would later be ordained a priest by Sheen on March 16, 1967. He would eventually become the Vice Postulator for Sheen’s cause for canonization.


Apostoli was a founding member of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal in 1988, and was also influential in the founding of the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal.

I think this might be the only time I have ever disagreed with our dear member Mario.

What the mother of God says is always the absolute truth.

It’s as if the One who made the heavens and the earth came and spoke to us.

Her actions and words are completely united with those of Our Father.

At least that’s how I see it.

Unless Lucia misunderstood her words. Could that be the case?
