Thank you for posting. The whole episode makes me quite ill, frankly. So much subversion and ill will. Prayers for our courageous President facing so much opposition while doing battle with evil in high places. I hope that you and your family are well and safe. You’re in my prayers.

I find it reprehensible that a Catholic church would close it's doors to anyone, especially the President.

Deeply disturbing statement from the Archbishop, especially considering that the First Lady is Catholic. I suppose he was too wrapped up in his political opinions to consider that Melania Trump may very well have played a role in encouraging the President to visit the shrine. I can only imagine how she must have felt when she heard about this. :(

If we are Trump supporters are we welcome in the Catholic Church? Has it come to this?

Julia Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

What is reprehensible to me is why Bishops and Archbishops are not making pilgrimages to shrines. How much does President Trumps pilgrimage lift other forum members spirits. It certainly lifts mine.

It takes courage for President Trump to make these visits. And it is about time the Hierarchy took a cue from the President instead of those blinded by greed for power and control, who follow a diabolical disorientation that is being imposed on people in the free world, with the Bishops supporting them.

I believe President went to two locations, one non Catholic I think and the other Catholic. For shame on the Archbishop for berating a man for acknowledging God publicly.
Thank you President Trump for not being ashamed of our God. God bless you and your family, and God bless America.

tfn, I said almost the exact same thing to my husband, almost word for word.

So many great points here thank you!

I just received a link to the following article in my email today. Archbishop Gregory was also completely unfounded in accusing President Trump of creating a photo-op.

DC archbishop criticizes long-planned Trump visit to Catholic shrine as ‘reprehensible’
'I find it baffling and reprehensible that any Catholic facility would allow itself to be so egregiously misused and manipulated in a fashion that violates our religious principles,' said Archbishop Wilton Gregory.

WASHINGTON, D.C., JUNE 2, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – Washington, D.C.’s Archbishop Wilton Gregory issued a stinging rebuke to the John Paul II National Shrine for “allowing” President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump to visit today.

The president and Mrs. Trump visited the shrine to both commemorate Pope Saint John Paul II’s 100th birthday two weeks ago and the 41st anniversary of the modern day saint’s historic Mass at Victory Square in Warsaw. Melania Trump is the first Catholic First Lady since Jacqueline Kennedy.

After his visit to the shrine, established and operated by the Knights of Columbus, President Trump planned to return to the White House to sign an executive order on religious freedom.

“I find it baffling and reprehensible that any Catholic facility would allow itself to be so egregiously misused and manipulated in a fashion that violates our religious principles, which call us to defend the rights of all people even those with whom we might disagree,” said Gregory in a statement released the very hour of Trump’s visit.

“Saint Pope John Paul II was an ardent defender of the rights and dignity of human beings,” continued Gregory. “His legacy bears vivid witness to that truth. He certainly would not condone the use of tear gas and other deterrents to silence, scatter or intimidate them for a photo opportunity in front of a place of worship and peace.”

A spokesperson for the shrine indicated on Tuesday that the White House had scheduled the president’s visit long before the recent violent uprisings in cities across the nation, countering Gregory’s implication that this was nothing more than a political photo op.

“This was fitting given St. John Paul II was a tireless advocate of religious liberty throughout his pontificate,” the Shrine said in a statement. “International religious freedom receives widespread bipartisan support, including unanimous passage of legislation in defense of persecuted Christians and religious minorities around the world.”

He added that “the shrine welcomes all people to come and pray and learn about the legacy of St. John Paul II.”

In declaring that the shrine and the president are in “violation of Catholic principles,” Archbishop Gregory chose to overlook Donald Trump’s record as the most pro-life president in the history of the nation, and his strong efforts to protect religious liberty.

This is completely unrelated to the above story but the mention of the Knights of Columbus reminded me of the following which I also received in my email box [yesterday]

  11. We are in THE times when the division/schism is now blatantly occurring. Our Lady implores us now to stay with the TRUE Magisterium of the Church, scripture, the sacraments, close to her Son.....as we witness and will continue to witness more of such distortions as these, with more and more secularizations of the institutional Church by its representatives who now do the bidding of the NWO/Communists, becoming its useful propagandists.

I couldn't sleep last night either I was so upset at the Archbishops commentary. And then on FB this a.m. was a similar post by a Deacon from Michigan. I also read a beautiful uplifting post by Franklin Graham supporting the President carrying a bible. I copied it and pasted it on the FB post of the diabolical Deacon. While he had others agreeing with him, he removed his post. I hope he prays about it. What we need most is prayer. It feels like demons have been unleashed everywhere, I have never witnessed such hate. Most of it directed at President Trump which speaks volumes of the great spiritual war going on.

I often, and I mean often, sometimes daily, scratch my head at the reactions of most people these days. The president and Melania visited a shrine. Is that not his constitutional right to be able to visit and pray in front of a shrine? Why the headlines? Does the archbishop not realize the teargas and rubber bullets are coming from the police and National Guard which are controlled by the local governments and states? The methods notwithstanding, the states and local governments are trying to quell the riots not the federal government. As a Catholic he should understand subsidiarity. The Federal government may have to step in but it hasn't so far.

And then there is the question I might ask, are you ok with the riots archbishop? Is mayhem OK as long as it fits the prescribed narrative?

I didn't sleep well either. I have had uncomfortable nights for several days.

    Me, too. rough nights
    He’s my Archbishop.
However, a spokesperson at the Shrine clarified that the President and Mrs. Trump had made arrangements prior to the civil unrest, but ugh.
Yes, the question is, are you okay with the riots, Your Excellency?
I feel like emailing him and asking him that question.
    Thank you, Tanker.

  19. More to worry about. Last night Dan Bongino, a New Yorker, said that a friend of his, retired security guy, told him that his phone was ringing off the hook w/ people crying and begging for him to get them some kind of personal security for them because the authorities are keeping the police from protecting them. I understand that pepper spray is the biggest order of such defense online.

Antifa arrests coming, concerns over riots heading to suburbia, government source says

Agitators behind the rioting that has paralyzed the country over the past week want to move into more suburban areas, a government intelligence source has told Fox News.

Much of the worry stems from the notion that many in well-armed, suburban, and rural neighborhoods won't hesitate to exercise their Second Amendment rights and elevated anxieties could lead to heavy confrontation.

"Antifa knows this," said the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "Local and state authorities have to get a grip on this because if it moves to the suburbs, more people will die."

Several analysts pointed to places that have served as something of "testbed" locations – including Madison, Wis., which was ransacked Saturday night, along with quiet pockets of Charleston, S.C.

    ............
But even before riots exploded across the United States in the aftermath of George Floyd's death, federal and local officials have long been investigating the inner workings and revenue stream of the anarchist, left-wing outfit.

And arrests among its highest ranks may be imminent.

Intelligence sources pointed out that indictments have been building for some time, and a close examination of funding revenues remains under the microscope.
While Antifa operates as something of a leaderless militant wing, sources closely engaged in the matter said that there are identifiable top brass driving and inciting criminal activity.

"These are smart people, educated people and it runs like a cell right out of the anti-fascist tradecraft books of Europe in the 1970s, it doesn't have a head or hierarchy, but it has a lot of local leadership," the government insider explained. "The local apparatus has very good intelligence capabilities, but where their weaknesses are is in communication and using apps that allow for large group chats."

Yes!!!! The President has every right to visit a shrine. I wonder how the Archbishop would feel if his shrine had been vandalized during the rioting. There was even a complaint about the bible President Trump carried in his hands when he walked over to St.John's church, as though the President has no right to hold a bible! It's no wonder we can't sleep at night.:(
