I was there a year ago!! http://risu.org.ua/en/index/all_news/culture/miracle/47062/ Monks Are Anxious As Icon Begins to Shed Holy Ointment in Maniavskyi Monastery In the Maniavskyi Monastery in western Ukraine, which is called the "Ukrainian Athos," an Icon of the Mother of God began to shed the holy ointment, reported TSN. The monks are anxious because the last time the icon shed the holy ointment four years ago, exactly before the great flood which affected the whole of western Ukraine. They have no idea what it can mean now. But they are convinced that the Virgin Mary cautions people about something. It is as if the icon is crying, as the ointment trickles down the right eye. According to the monks, the “trickle” is getting longer with each day. They have no doubt that it is a wonder. “There is no humidity, but cold and frost, everything is frozen and it sheds the holy ointment,” said Metropolitan Ioasaf of Ivano-Frankivsk and Halych of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate. The Wonder-working Icon “Hegumenness of Maniavskyi Monastery” is one of the main local shrines. It is a copy of the original which disappeared when the monastery was closed down. The original was painted in the 17th century after the Holy Virgin appeared to the Superior during an epidemic and told him to repent. After earnest prayers of the monks the epidemic subsided.
Well Marti, I hope you and all your large family are doing well, becomming more and more holy and Christlike with ever passing day and that Mary and Joseph make their homes in your house and in yuor hearts. Gail sent me a little round vial containing cotton buds saturated with oil that stremed form a miraculous picture that folwed forth in Florida. I have been using it with great respect and devotion for several weeks now. A couple of weeks ago I was surprised to discover that insted of the oil diminshing it actually increases so that there are times I fear it will actually overflow! I checked with Gail and apparently this is a common experience. She said if you put it on your tongue it tastes sweet and seems to increase. I tired it and it's true. I ahve big plans now to buy little glass crytal urns (if I can find a place that sells them( to keep them with proper respect) ) and to give them to the sick and those who venrate them. I had a wonderful dream about St Monica last evening. She stood over my bed as though in an alcove, streming with light. She was in her early twenties with long flowing robes, dark black tresses over her shoulders and smiling widely. She indicated that her son was coming and I saw St Augusine , portrayed the same was ; of the smae age with black hair cut in a funny bowl shape kind of way , over his shoulders was a roughish looking dark blue kind of chausible kind of garment that looked like it was made of thick wool. He was thinish with darkish appearance. As you may well think this has made me very happy. Why St Monica and Augustine/ Who knows?
Oh Padraig! THANK YOU! I too was given the sweet oil by Gail and the other night very late right before bed, I went before my altar and blessed my forehead, my eyes, my ears, and mouth, heart and hands with the oil so the good Lord would protect my seeing evil, hearing evil, keep my heart pure and help me help others with my hands and help keep ungodly words from mouth. (I had said to Gail that NO I could not possibly put THAT oil in my mouth. The thought of it made me gag! ) Just as I was walking away from my altar I licked my lips unconsciously. The oil was so sweet and my whole being flooded with tears! I couldn't quit crying! I apologized to our Lord for being so sqweemish and realized that HIS tears are eternally sweet and kind and gentle. If you could have seen me licking my hands and trying to get the last drop of tears off my lips you'd have thought I was a cat! I was amazed. Dear St. Monica and Augustine--we need you!!
