This is frightening for all nursing home patients. In addition to staff, many visitors and volunteers pass through nursing homes, and it is terribly risky with this going on. There are a number of nursing facilities near me who are dealing with serious flu outbreaks. I certainly hope all senior facilities with be proactive, such as monitoring staff for COVID19, and reviewing their visitation policies.

How good is the health service in Brazil? That can make a difference to the outcome. Also, I'm sure I remember reading that Brazil has a much lower percentage of young people. It has been speculated that one of the reasons for Italy's high death rate is that 23% of the population is over age 65.

This is the question isnt it? So hard to know. Even 20 years ago before social media deadly viruses appeared and people died but the media didn't say much unless it was local. Even in 2009 the H1N1 appeared and it was a threat but we never heard of it. Why now? Why this one? Because of China's massive quarantine? I got the Asisn flu in 1957 when I was little. I was terribly sick. A lot of people were affected and many died but I dont remember this hysteria. So what is going in? Why are they ginning up fear?
