Yes, Mario, I have been underestimating things. I'd better buy some more tinned food. Our freeszer isn't very big because we don't eat a lot of frozen vegetables and use the freezer mostly for meat so we won't have much space for bags of frozen peas and carrots.

I don't know how reliant we are on imports from China. My guess is that a shortage of medicines could be a problem. China seems to be a major exporter of medicines. I read that a lot of generic medicines are made in India but India imports the ingredients from China. I'm not sure but I think it would be hard to get more than a month's supply of prescription medicine here. Doctors will give prescriptions for longer than a month but I've never heard of anyone getting more than a month's supply at a time. Maybe it is possible but I imagine that would be in exceptional cases like, perhaps, someone travelling abroad on holiday.

Why would an outbreak of the coronavirus necessitate having an independent water supply?

The problem with a Pandemic is not really the amount of people who die or even those who become seriously ill.

(Though in the case of Corvid-19 this is a serious concern with over 20% becoming seriously ill and needing hospital treatment).

No the more serious concern is twofold. Firstly Economic Meltdown and all that that implies.

But in the short term more seriously societal breakdown. So if for instance too many power workers are off work we may no power and with no power not running water or sewage treatment. Collapse of food supplies. No heating. No internet, no transport and so on. Then following that a break down in law and order, Martial Law and so on.

The list goes on and on.

What would concern me most though is something no one every talks about. That is the inner stamina of people to withstand this. People these days are intensely materialistic. They have no inner resources to stand pain or suffering or coming face to face with death and illness right at first hand. No God ; no inner stamina.

Take my grandmother for instance. She lived her entire life in great poverty. Very often simply having nothing to eat or feed her children. She lived totally hand to mouth her whole life. What she did have in huge letters was her FAITH. That's what saw her through. Her house was like a little holy shop with all the pictures and statues. The rosary beads seemed glued to her hands. She got through it all and got through it smiling and laughing.

Folks these days don;t have this inner spiritual stamina. Houses not heated...not enough food ... no lighting or running water will drive them crazy like wolves howling at the moon.

What will be the result of this lack of inner peace.?Rage, fear, panic, violence...who knows?

But they just won't cope. They've never had to cope before; they just won't be up for it.

So true padraig, sinead and I were talking about this last night this young generation will be totally lost the basic skills of survival have not been taught they would struggle to light a fire to keep warm, all the answers to problems are available on Google I witness daily young people in student accommodation wrestling to open a can of beans that being the limit of their cooking skills dear love them they most certainly will crumble

That is one of the best things about camping John. It makes you make do and look for fixes. I would love to see all young people camping.

I met a Doctor after mass, a very devout Catholic, second cousins of mine. He comes from a very medical family, all his sons and daughters are Doctors too, as was his own father before him.

A very holy family I would say; outstanding.

I asked him about his thoughts on the virus , being curious. I know he is an older Practitioner very experienced and caring; great compassion. But I was just struck with how he was coming out with the trite understanding of the general medical community here. He had no grasp of the fact that the mortality rate for this is x 20 to 30 times more than the flu. That the serious cases are at 25% and that there is no herd immunity.

I didn't argue. its just that so many of us are living in Disney Land about all this.

I think that what we're seeing in other countries is a foretaste of what's to come but that the real catastrophe is maybe a generation away. The WHO are praising the Chinese response. They seem to regard it as a model for how to deal with an emergency public health risk. If some of what we saw on the internet is true, I'm not sure that there's a whole lot of difference between the Chinese response and martial law. That was just a few regions in China. It's just some towns in two regions in Italy where people can't enter or leave without permission. Imagine what it would be like for an entire country to be on lockdown with restrictions on all unauthorised travel and people suspected of having the virus being dragged out of their homes and taken to government treatment centres.

There's a hotel in the Canaries (maybe Tenerife) in lockdown. An Italian doctor has tested positive for the virus there. What about the people who were on the same flight as him? It's unlikely that they all were booked into the same hotel.

A kinda funny/sad story from Iran.

When the virus started spreading there the Health Minister there opposed Quarantine because he said he did not believe in Quarantines.

Now he has just come down with the virus and admits he was maybe mistaken.

    Funny old world.:):);)

  10. Well, there is a new message to Luz de Maria (messages that contain the medicinal plants for such times) that is not as yet translated; it's from Feb. 24th; It gets into this present moment and also warns of more to come. This is only a portion re: these things.

    .........
Man does not look at his reality, that which he has forged with his own immoral laws, with the debauchery of a mind engulfed in what allows him to live without God, without being held accountable for his works and spiritual acts, for that reason they reject whatever evokes God.

They have forged a new god of sin and excitement, which allows them what THE ONLY AND TRUE GOD DOESN'T ALLOW THEM BECAUSE HE LOVES THEM AND WANTS TO SAVE THE SOUL.

But you children, you have created a worldly, liberal god and they say how novel !, to which you applaud and honor, amid feasts, of degeneration, degradation, drugs, alcohol and debauchery, that ... that Satan offers you and that As humanity, they are very much in the mood.

But you children, turning aside the Divine Word, affirm that Heaven and Eternal Life are fantasy.

    ........
THE DISEASE ADVANCES (1) AND THE MAN KEEPS SILENCE, BUT AS MOTHER OF HUMANITY I CALL YOU TO KEEP IN ALERT, BEFORE THE VIRUS THAT HAS COME OUT OF HUMAN HANDS TO HUMANITY, THEREFORE THE MAN FEARS HIMSELF, BECAUSE KNOWN.

YOU DON'T EXPECT IT MY CHILDREN, THE COUNTRY ADVANCE FROM COUNTRY TO COUNTRY AND IS GENERALIZED, THEREFORE, I HAVE GIVEN YOU TO KNOW THE MEDICINES (2) WITH WHICH YOU MUST COMBAT THIS AND OTHER DISEASES WITH WHICH YOU WILL BE ATTACKED.

While man sleeps the earth continues to shudder strongly.

Pray My children, pray for the United States.

Pray My children, pray for Chile.

Pray My children, pray for Japan.

    PRAY FOR CENTRAL AMERICA.

Beloved children of My Immaculate Heart, the goal is ETERNAL LIFE and that you will not find attached to the mundane. Stay together to survive, stay on the Path that My Son has called you.

Do not fear, children it is necessary for this Mother to speak to you like this. Do not fear I AM YOUR MOTHER AND DO NOT LEAVE YOU. GO TO MY CHILD, RESPOND TO HIS CALL.

CDC expects ‘community spread’ of coronavirus, as top official warns disruptions could be ‘severe’
    Today, 12:45 PM

    By Megan Thielking @meggophone
    February 25, 2020

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday warned that it expects the novel coronavirus that has sparked outbreaks around the world to begin spreading at a community level in the United States, as a top official said that disruptions to daily life could be “severe.”

“As we’ve seen from recent countries with community spread, when it has hit those countries, it has moved quite rapidly. We want to make sure the American public is prepared,” Nancy Messonnier, director of CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, told reporters...

  18. Bishop: “Worship Must Not Decrease Despite Coronavirus”

Most Northern Italian regional governments forbad large gatherings of people, due to the coronavirus.

Several dioceses used this decision to suspend all masses despite failing to attract "large gatherings." Among them is Pavia Diocese.

However, Pavia Bishop Corrado Sanguineti ordered in a pastoral letter that churches remain open for personal prayer, and priests must celebrate Masses behind closed doors including ringing the bells as usual,

“Even if we cannot worship publicly, the liturgical prayer must not become less, that is for us priests a daily appointment of invigoration and an inexhaustible source of grace for the whole people of God.”

Brian, Thank you for posting this.

I agree with what Mr. Birch has stated.

If the numbers are correct in the following depiction and if all of the cases which are currently serious or critical (9,211) result in death that would mean that the corona virus kills almost 12% of the people who become infected with it. But most people believe that the numbers are even worse than what is being reported.

    We need to keep praying.

    God is in control.

The most that we can do is control how we react to things that occur.+

Carol and Brian thank you for sharing this very informative map. In terms of Death Rate, if you search under Age, and look by age ranges , it looks like the majority of cases are made up of people older than 60 years, with those in the 80+ range being the most vulnerable at 14.8.

It looks like children under 9 years are not affected, thus far, and hopefully this won't change.

    AGE /
    DEATH RATE*
    80+ years old /14.8%

    70-79 years old /8.0%

    60-69 years old/3.6%

    50-59 years old / 1.3%

    40-49 years old /0.4%

    30-39 years old /0.2%

    20-29 years old /0.2%

    10-19 years old /0.2%

0-9 years old / no fatalities

I have no medical background whatsoever, but I wonder is this typical of other viruses, that those over 60 are more likely to die, with those over 80 the most likely in the group?

    Prayers for the entire world!
