I remember that storm. Thankfully, we were prepared too. Our dependable woodstove became a resourceful cookstove. My husband always insisted on kerosene lanterns for emergencies. We still have both.
Just watched the news report about the lockdowns in Italy. The region affected accounts for 30% of the Italian economy and 40% of Italy's exports. Italy is also the most visited country in Europe. Italy's economy will be badly hit if this drags on much longer, and Italy has the EU's third biggest economy. Please God, the Italians will be able to stop the virus spreading beyond the areas already affected. Even if they do manage to stem the spread of the virus, the outlook isn't good for Italy this year.
Yep. Same here. God bless the woodstove! Your husband is wise to insist on kerosene lanterns. We just have the battery ones.
I grew up on tea with milk, my mom's from Belfast so is that common in Ireland? In any case, for the past month or so I have been drinking my tea with just honey. A little while before I started using the honey I started having green tea with ginger. It is very good. I literally ordered a lot of honey right before I read someone's post here that stated raw honey is good for our immune systems. I thought yeah me! (For a few years, I was only drinking water more or less but I got very tired of that recently.) Thank you Ann for introducing the forum to Dr. Campbell. In regard to how much food to stock up on, I have no idea. I am sure that no matter what I do to prepare I will still be ill prepared if something bad actually does happen. I often think of getting this or that item and then I don't do it. Ugh. I have been telling my husband that we need this or that for years now and his answer is well, I bought that generator and it's still sitting in the box in the garage unopened. And he knows what happened when are area was hit with hurricane Sandy in 2012 and we were out of power for awhile. He ran to Home Depot right away and was lucky enough to get a generator. The generator was missing the wheels but we used it for a few days until the power was restored and then he brought it back to Home Depot to get the wheels but they asked him to return the entire unit. So then when I started talking about the possibility of idk an emp or something else that causes a power outage, I was able to convince him to get another generator but then our prepping sort of stopped at that. I still have not gotten a good water filter and when I ask him about it he says we have a zero water filter. What does everyone else have in regard to a good water filter, that is probably the most important thing, isn't it? Help... We do have a lot of candles and flashlights and batteries but I as far as food goes, I just don't know. I have some canned soup maybe 20 cans on hand right now but I have been thinking of getting some rice. Isn't there a difference in types of rice, some last a very long time. I feel lost with at times. It's very tempting to just order a few survival kits but I think that is a very expensive route to take and we may not like the stuff very much at all. Personally, I like a lot of different foods but others in my family are pretty picky.
I think you underestimate things a bit, Dolours. First, a lockdown of just 2 weeks would be futile because the asymptomatic period for covid-19 is actually between 24-27 days. It would be best to have it last at least three weeks. In fact, it is not the death rate but the length of this symptomatic period which is the real culprit! Secondly, China is having a hard time containing the virus and that is with extreme draconian measures. Italy's measures are strict but not as strict. In addition, at least here in America, our dependence on the supply chain from China is so crucial that things could get very serious within a month. And so far it seems that the steps the USA is currently taking appear too hesitant. Is that due to conflicting efforts between federal and state levels? Could "deep state" personnel be dragging their feet? Anyway, nations should look to the thoroughness of Singapore and Hong Kong procedures to best prepare their own defensive measures. Safe in the Father's Arms!
A few cans of condensed milk might work as well. I don't use it anymore but used to prefer it over powdered.
We pull water into our house from a 22-ft dug well dating back to 1830. Obviously we use an electric pump, but if power goes down we have an additional water line connected to a hand pump in our basement. In a half hour we can pump and hull 25 gallons of water upstairs and heat it on a wood stove. In the middle of summer, that would be a lot of sweat! O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee!
I buy enriched white rice--not minute rice but the stuff that takes about 20 minutes to cook. A couple of 10 lbs bags would be excellent. Brown rice doesnt keep well sadly. I am going to try green tea with ginger. That sounds good.
Honestly I think 3 months is not too long a time to plan for things to have on hand especially things that will be disrupted because of China. We are way to dependent on China for pharmasuiticals for example.
Limbaugh: Coronavirus Being ‘Weaponized’ to Bring Down Trump https://www.breitbart.com/clips/202...navirus-being-weaponized-to-bring-down-trump/
We have a lot more coming than just this outbreak. Id encourage thinking about of food and water needs for years. Water filters. Seeds.
This is a very thought-provoking position. It’s plausible. The only thing is, Brian’s friend Rodolfo has passed away, presumably from this illness, or do we know for sure his actual cause of death? I can see Limbaugh’s point.
We have a bison hand pump on top of one of our wells for the backup to the backup but have you looked into solar to run the water pump for long term outages? It’s not too expensive to implement
I love Rush but he’s grasping at straws there. The media didn’t hype it. For the first couple months we had to dig through alternative media for info. I have first hand info on my company’s supply chain being cut from China. And we see cities in Italy, South Korea, Iran being shut down. Cruise ships quarantined and denied ports of entry by various countries. They don’t do that for the common cold
Correct! Very correct. It was hard to learn about in the beginning. I remember that. So what is his game I wonder.
Yes, tea with milk is normal here although some people don't bother with the milk. I can't imagine putting honey in tea. You're well prepped with a generator and you can always buy tablets for purifying the water or maybe just boil the water. I only ever eat canned rice pudding so wouldn't have a clue about different types of rice. Expiry dates on the bag will be my guide.
