It would take a rigged Council for all the weeds to be in the Vatican at the same time. Looks like the Francis papacy will grind on for a while. I don't believe that he will retire while Pope Benedict is living. He also seems to be the type who enjoys manipulating and scheming with impunity so is unlikely to resign while he's fit enough for the job. I'm more interested now in who will be his successor. The bar has been set so low that I'll be happy if the next Pope is sane and undeniably Catholic.

After Pope Francis decided not to endorse the change in Querida Amazonia, his apostolic exhortation on the October meeting, the Brazilian publication Estadão reported Feb. 12 that Cardinal Hummes told Brazilian media that “the question must now be worked out with the Pope and the offices of the Holy See.” “It will be taken up again,” the cardinal insisted. “This matter will have to be developed and completed.” The Pope did not make any mention of priestly celibacy, married priests, or the ordination of so-called viri probati in Querida Amazonia, but instead stressed the importance of itinerant missionary work and that permanent deacons, religious women and laity should “regularly assume important responsibilities.” Cardinal Hummes, who served as the general relator (essentially the chief coordinator) of the Oct. 6-27 synod, has at least since 2006 advocated the ordination of married men. Just before taking up his position that year as prefect of the Congregation for Clergy, he said in an interview clerical celibacy was not a dogma and could be subject to review. Within a few hours after arriving at the Vatican two days later, Pope Benedict XVI had him issue a statement saying priestly celibacy was not up for discussion. Having hoped the Amazon Synod could be a vehicle through which to accomplish such a change in the centuries-old discipline of the Latin Church, but with the Pope not endorsing it in his exhortation, Cardinal Hummes now believes that the October meeting still will play an important role in Vatican discussions in achieving the change, according to the Estadão report. In particular, he told the publication that the Synod’s final document, in which the majority of synod fathers voted in favor of ordaining married deacons as priests, “would not be put on a shelf” and that the Church “must be committed to its application.” Bishop Walmor Oliveira de Azevedo of the Diocese of Belo Horizonte, president of the Brazilian bishops’ conference, also told Estadão that now the post-synodal exhortation has been published, “it doesn’t mean that the final document of the Synod can be incinerated.” And he speculated that a decree regarding the ordination of married men, which would not be appropriate in an exhortation, “may be forthcoming.” Bishop Oliveira de Azevedo also maintains that the Pope has commissioned a study to update questions regarding the priesthood. A similar response to the exhortation also came from Pope Francis’ frequently utilized “ghost writer” for papal documents, Archbishop Victor Manuel Fernández of La Plata, Argentina. He told the online publication Religiondigital Feb. 12 that the Pope’s apostolic exhortation “does not constitute an interpretation” of the synod’s final document, nor does it act as a “restriction” of the final document's contents. Instead, he said the apostolic exhortation is “only a complementary outline” of the final document that “does not rescind it.” He stressed the importance of Paragraph 4 of the exhortation, in which the Pope asks that all bishops and pastoral agents of the Amazon “strive to apply” the final document. At the Vatican press launch yesterday, Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri, general secretary of the Synod of Bishops, made it clear that although Francis “officially presented” the synod’s final document, he had not given it his “express approval” and so it was not part of the papal magisterium. He also said any application of the final document needs to be “done in light of the exhortation itself.” Lula Meets the Pope Meanwhile, the Pope today received at his Santa Marta residence former Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula de Silva, more commonly known simply as “Lula,” a socialist politician who founded the country’s Workers’ Party and served as president from 2003 to 2010. In 2018, and after a series of failed court appeals, Lula was jailed for 12 years for money laundering and passive corruption. He was released last November, amid ongoing claims that he was arrested due to lack of evidence, and on grounds that all appeals had not been exhausted. Lula is a close friend of Cardinal Hummes. The cardinal has a long history of being closely tied to Brazilian leftist politics, and is often credited for helping propel Lula to the presidency. But this afternoon’s meeting, which lasted an hour and was not publicized by the Vatican or announced in its daily bulletin as it was an “informal meeting,” was not arranged through Cardinal Hummes but via Francis’ friend, Argentina’s socialist President Alberto Ángel Fernández, who met the Pope at the Vatican on Jan. 31. In a Feb. 5 tweet announcing his Vatican visit, Lula said he would be meeting the Pope “to thank him not only for the solidarity he showed me at a difficult time, but above all for his dedication to the oppressed.” He said he also wanted to “discuss the Brazilian experience of combating poverty.”
He might not miss a trick, this Bergoglio. But maybe the Holy Ghost, the real one not Bergoglio's self-identifying 'Holy Spirit', was having no more of this imposture and came down heavy. This wholly unexpected outcome is nothing but the Will of God. We thought Trump defeating Clinton was extraordinary, but this outcome is far more unlikely and far worse for the liberals than what Marathon was for the Persians. That satan will double-down and that the liberals will come back trying harder than ever changes nothing. No matter how hard they try, no matter how they lie, Christ isn't for beating. He allowed Judas to participate in His plans, also. Didn't do much for Judas. We must not forget how utterly insignificant mankind is compared to God. That He humbled Himself to incarnate Himself says much more about the humility involved than it does about the creature to whom He lowered Himself. He would have been well-justified in leaving us to our fate, in consequence of our betrayal of Him. We are nothing, made out of nothing, our being only due to His Will. To think that any body of heretics is going to be permitted to torpedo the plans which have come from the Word before Time itself is the height of hubris or despair, depending from which side one comes (and I'm a well paid up member of the latter, I make no attempt to deny). It is beginning to be a repeating pattern in the face of this antinomianism- they get so far, before falling flat on their face. In this, I see the will of God. Bear in mind that this post is consequent to my celebrating Valentine's Day with my beloved wife and considerable white wine, the first bottle excellent, has been consumed. The Orthodox Church canonised Pontius Pile and his wife. They are both considered to be saints there now. I read a report from a famous Catholic Mystic one time (I forget who). She said Pontius Pilate was killed by his own soldiers in Southern Gaul (France). Did you ever wonder why Pontius's wife Claudia (St Porcia) had the dreams warning her that Jesus should not be killed? For after all Pilate went ahead and did it anyway. I wonder if it might not have been to assist in their conversion?
Indeed. Mrs Pilate was obviously deeply impressed by Our Lord and very disturbed by the injustices done unto Him. Of course, these events had to happen for the sake of our salvation so she was unable to dissuade her husband from his destiny, but she might have inspired remorse and repentance later if, unlike Judas, he was prepared to give it a chance. It seems very likely. Pilate did half-heartedly try to free Jesus.
Thus far, I see two real positives from this latest Vatican version of a shell game. The first is that Diana Montagna is a class act as a journalist. She and Edward Pentin are worth their weight in gold. The second and far more important is that, despite all the complaints about there being two Popes, it was a book co-authored by the Pope Emeritus which put the brakes on the reigning Pope. The prevailing opinion in the Vatican appears to be that the Holy Spirit is a fairy sprinkling magic dust randomly on whomever is following the spirit of the age, or the joker in a hand of cards to be held back or played at the will of the player. But the "God of surprises" isn't one to be manipulated or trifled with. Strike one for the Holy Spirit. That we're all breathing a sigh of relief because the Pope hasn't declared openly his intention to change the priesthood is yet another ominous sign of the times. All's well until some Bishop decides to ordain a few married men in his diocese and the Pope declares "there can be no other interpretation". All's well until the latest examination of the female deaconate produces a pre-ordained outcome that contradicts the outcomes of previous examinations. This is the third such examination. The first one produced a negative result. The second was a majority negative - the minority view coming from advocates of women't ordination irrespective of Tradition. Will anyone be surprised if the next one has a majority in favour of a female deaconate? How will the Holy Spirit handle that? The God of surprises could put us through the wringer before reminding us all of who is really in charge.
I always fear I am imagining things about the Holy Father and that people like Mark Mallett are right and I am being far, far too harsh and judgemental. I wish to goodness I was being so, that it was all a figment of my imagination. Then I could just go into a dark hole somewhere and never open my mouth about such things and never ever open it again. Such a joy to do so. But watching Raymond Arroyo and the World Over Papal Posse, the most moderate and ballanced of folks I am afraid my own suspicions mirrored. In fact they seem much , much more incensed about things and much, much more upset and angry. Don't shoot the messengers who bring you the bad news in all this. It is not the messengers faults.
The watchmen on the walls are never happy about what they must announce. It's not easy--it is in fact dangerous sometimes but that is the burden of being a watchman. I pray you are wrong too but sadly "the time gives it proof" as Hamlet would say. There really is "something rotten in the state of Denmark" and God is revealing it day by day. How much of this involves the Vicar of Christ I dont know. I csnt possibly know. I will make no statements on that subject. I will and do pray for him but I do believe the deep rot in our beloved Church is being revealed layer by layer.
I find studying all that Our Lady has said in the last 200 years a great help. She wasn't making things up.
we went out for dinner last night and I had half a glass of prosecco and actually felt tipsy! Never ever indulge any more but Valentine's Day and my husband's return from Europe---well just had to pop a little bubbly. Since I was the designated driver I did not go for the second half glass!
