Is Trump really pro life, or is he just pandering for votes?

    Some thoughts:

Is Trump really pro life, or is he just pandering for votes?

During the 2016 election, I frankly didn’t trust Trump. I thought his pro life “conversion” was no different than Mitt Romney’s, i.e., just pandering for votes from the conservative base of the party. Trump was vocally pro abortion his whole life, a liberal New Yorker who had the Clintons as guests at his marriage to Melania. He said really rude and crude things about women. I didn’t trust his “pro life” position prior to the election. I voted for a pro life third party candidate.

That he used pro life rhetoric to solidify the support of the base is undeniable in Romney’s case, but with Trump?

Trump said he had a pro life conversion because a couple he knew had a problem pregnancy but decided against abortion and to keep the child, and that he has grown very fond of that child.

I’m convinced now that child is Barron Trump, and that couple was he and Melania. He really has had a pro life conversion.

Melania had her grandmother’s Rosary wrapped around her hand instead of carrying flowers at their wedding. She is a self described Catholic, often photographed in front of various statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her devotion is real, regardless of anything else, and her influence on her husband simply cannot be understated.

Everything Trump has done for the pro life, pro family and religious rights causes is more than all of our vaunted bishops have done during these corresponding years. A cynical politician trying to sway votes simply says things he wants the pro life voting block to hear. He does NOT follow through on his promises.

Trump has been like Constantine before his baptism, doing the right things but not necessarily for the right reasons. But maybe he’s well beyond that point now. That’s between him and God.

I must admit I became choked up just now, watching Trump address the March For Life. He spoke from his heart, not as a cynical politician trying to solidify support among a large important voting block, but as an imperfect person following through on real convictions.

For my friends on social media who tragically persist in Never Trump nonsense and various forms of Trump Derangement Syndrome, I’m sorry, it’s past time for this. I’m going to have to unfriend you due to your obvious lack of discernment in this crucial hour.

I’m voting for Trump in 2020.

So eloquently and beautifully said Brian. I cannot see how any serious prolifer be against him.

We can't know his heart but I see that he is willing to act in support when others would never touch things such as this and consider it a third rail. Instead they said things such as I support their right to march, assemble and the like. AKA nothing at all.
He is the first President I can remember who actually stood on that rail and made a stand against the party of death.

God Bless President Trump, VP Pence and family and all at the March. What a beautiful video. And very nice analysis, Brian, and I agree with your post. 4 more years!

I hate to say this but Republicans are often the party of death in another respect. I think "warmongers" is the term that I think some on MOG have used for them and I agree with this assessment in relation to some of them especially those who appear to have directly profited from war.

I think that, in many respects, Trump is an anomaly. He is far from perfect but I believe that Our Lord told us that no man is perfect.

Trump doesn't really fit into either box, Republican or Democrat, at least the politicians that we had come to know in the many years running up to 2016. I think that he felt that he could no longer relate to the Democrats, that they had gone way too far, way too extreme. I pray that many other Americans realize how far the Democrats have gone. As for the Republicans, I think that Trump related to their values and thought that he might be able to convert the warmongers a bit and of course, he knew that if he was to become President/Commander and Chief some day that he would have the final say about which wars and to what extent the US would get involved.

I believe that President Trump is doing an excellent job so far, not perfect but still excellent given the horrible state of the world and it is horrible in many, many respects. I thank God we appear to be making progress in many areas.

The following movie is good and if you have not seen it yet, I suggest that you do but I think that most members here know most, if not all, of the information contained in the movie.

I also think that we may witness even more fury from those who are trying to stop the President after today. Iow, President Trump needs our prayers more than ever. +

I’ve loved him since the late 70’s. He was always so right on certain issues. Also, he had such pride and love for New York, that I always admired. Melania has been very good for him. May God keep them safe.

  9. And that's why the establishment neo-con Repubs are "never Trumpers". He's chanced great criticism for his efforts to end the "endless wars" and bring the troops home....as best the current circumstances allow w/o endangering the country. I don't think people can grasp the amount of change this President made in such a short time due to decades of being educated or re-educated in our public school system w/o accurate historical facts and generally being allowed to remain ignorant re: economics and the real value of capitalism. And he's had to really fight for all of these new advances w/ his hands tied behind his back w/ violent threats openly advertised against him, his family, and his open followers.

Cudos to God's choice here and His Mercy that gives this country another chance to get back on track with the Father's intentions for an America, under Him. But we are still really going to have to suffer more violence in the streets I'm afraid w/ possible international "false flags" to create the necessary chaos of distraction as we go beyond the impeachment finale and onward to the election and of course, afterwards, when he's re-elected.

I wish President Trump could run for office here in Canada. He certainly would get my vote! Sadly, a lot of my fellow Canadians hate him, but I believe it is mostly due to being exposed to so much anti-Trump media bias. I was so moved watching Trump's speech at the March for Life Rally today. It was so awesome to hear a world leader speak about the sanctity of life, God and grace. Words we certainly don't hear from our pro-choice PM Trudeau.:(

  11. I was rather fascinated at the time when Trump's subtle hint that Obama was not a citizen triggered a self conscious Obama to immediately act in such a way that the one he chose to hurriedly create a digital BC forgot to flatten the 3 phony forms used to create something that was easily debunked as a fraud. Trump's intel and antennae have a history of catching out the phonies pretty easily.

I am so happy to support President Trump! I was the biggest doubter that trump would keep his promises...
But he exceeded them! So happy to be wrong!
God bless President Trump....and God protect him. Trump 2020-2024-2028 etc!

I cried listening to his speech. I wish we had such brave leadership in our country. His speech ticked every box and I really felt he was speaking from the heart.

I was surprised - I was honestly choked up, on the verge of tears, to see the leader of the free world saying such things, about life and God, with conviction and from his heart. Yes, it really gives us hope!

I really enjoyed watching Trump's speech with my wife, Geralyn. After all, she is the office manager for a pregnancy center. President Trump directly praised such pro-life agencies in his speech. We must always keep in mind the unique position of President Trump which may never happen again! He is not beholden to any donor influence. Being independently wealthy means he can set his own agenda without much pushback. If Trump is re-elected, it is logical to conclude the next term will be the last year a president can buck the system. I sincerely pray that God gives him that one more term.

O Mary conceived without sin, pray for the salvation of Donald Trump!

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that he is being sincere.

I would be very disappointed if he's merely pandering for votes or (worse) trolling pro-abortion groups.

Trump is not a pretender. He say's what he feels and speaks to the truths in his heart. He, like most of us, have had said things and done things when we were people of the world. When we grew, we put childish things away. He is sincere and I think he is having his George Washington moment when he is doing the bidding of God. The USA would already by a socialist country if the likes of Obama or Hillary were in the office the past 3 years

  19. One has to look at the entire Presidency of Trump. This recent outward act is a continuing gesture of Trump's personal commitment to the sacredness of life, as an image of the Creator (what other President has even begun to offer that kind of teaching about the child in the womb???) which has already been proven by his other acts towards those of faith who have been prevented from expressing the Truth in the market square as well as in all levels of the education system, ordering that Federal funds be withheld from any State (school) that prevents such Constitutional freedoms from targeted groups. He's doing what he can and boldly so to prevent insurance companies from being compelled in all circumstances to provide birth control in any form, protecting such as the Little Sisters of the Poor who once again are fighting in court....the President has sent a government rep to offer its help within that case. He immediately ordered fed funds not be used overseas for abortions. He's working at getting drug prices down for the poor; experimental drugs to be released for the terminally ill. And all this can cost him any votes that could benefit him from the left which some feel could be needed if he wants support from all sides at the next election. Instead it only fires up the left's owned media arm to come out stronger against him w/ more lies and threats to not only him but to his family and those who outwardly support him. He has offered more to those who have been afraid to act on their beliefs than all of those who were only oracles of what "should" be done but who never stepped out.....much more than Reagan and he was the best anyone could point to in recent times.

One hasn't been paying much attention to all this or done his/her part as citizens of faith if they haven't assisted him by their own prayers. He's still only a man with the best of intentions, openly expressing his need for God's help, but he was given to this country at such a time because there was a remnant left who still prayed for such help, seeing the downward spiral, and the possibility of that prophecy that "they" were trying to put a "witch" into the White House coming to pass. No one could have withstood such challenges on all levels UNLESS he had the anointing from God. Thank God for not leaving us to ourselves.
