Cuomo cannot be ignored with a slap on the wrist. He signed the death warrant for the unborn. This is out and out murder. I don’t care what retribution he can bring down on the catholic institutions if he is excommunicated. He is complicit in the murder of innocent life. Let the chips fall where they may.

They have spoken on it. I don't have the time to research now, but I believe there were encyclicals etc. condemning it.

    Rain,

This is why to make a extended in-your-face stand now will mark any of us as bigoted hatemongers. Those who embrace this agenda fully expect us to react noisily for a couple of months. But they also fully expect us to grow weary and return to a once a year pro-life march. If we don't arise now in great force, this State will be judged most severely, and I may be judged for any ho-hum what can I do response. Thus, the question truly is, "What response should I make as a Catholic, as a deacon, as a citizen?" There are a whole lot more babies to defend now!

Fr. Mitch Pacwa had a Canon Lawyer on his programme and they discussed what rights the Catholic faithful have under Canon Law. The first six minutes of the programme is about films EWTN has made about St. Rose of Lima and St. Martin dePorres which will be aired around mid-February. The rest of the programme is about Canon Law and touches on parish closures, removing the Blessed Sacrament from churches without a resident pastor as well as various other issues affecting parishes and parishioners. The Canon Lawyer had some interesting things to say about New York and "Catholic" politicians both in the interview and later in response to a phone call from someone in the New York Archdiocese. Here's a link:

Podesta's Catholic Spring crowd were very well organised until they were exposed on Wikileaks. A person would have to be very naive to believe that they weren't getting advice from people inside the Church. Podesta lectured in Jesuit Georgetown University and I'm pretty sure that I saw a signature from a Fr. Martin SJ on some of CUCG's petitions. Although perhaps no so in-your-face now, I doubt that they have gone away. Perhaps it is time for faithful Catholics to do some organising of their own. Note that Fr. Pacwa and the Canon Lawyer stressed how important it is to be a-political when trying to have your voice heard in the Church.

Dolores...we need to have all the Podests/ Hillary Vatican connection investigated and exposed.
I’ve heard rumbling about it, but that’s about it. They expected Hillary to win and they were going to forward the leftist/ socialist agenda from what I remember.
Do you know what was going on with that gang?

The encyclical I was thinking of is Mortalium Animos by Pope Pius XI which came out in 1928. In it he is concerned about the ecumenism he saw around him. That encyclical had statements such as:

"In reality beneath these enticing words and blandishments lies hid a most grave error by which the foundations of the Catholic faith are completely destroyed (MA 4)."

So understood properly there is nothing wrong with ecumenism as such. Meaning, yes, dialoguing with other faith to bring them to the Catholic faith is not bad. BUT the way it is often practiced does not resemble that at all, but results in a watering down of the Catholic beliefs to make them more appealing to others. This is intolerable and a grave error.

As we can see the "ecumenical" movements today much more resemble the kinds Pope Pius XI was concerned about than the kind which bring people to the One True Catholic Faith.

I don't know. The organisations haven't gone away, and I suspect that neither has their support inside the Church. That type doesn't just fade away - they change tactics. Isn't that what happened to the Church - modernists decided that Luther's mistake was getting himself excommunicated rather than working stealthily to change the Church from within and they set about doing that?

I have posted on the thread about the Restrainer a link to a video of an EWTN interview with Fr. Rutler. He makes a whole lot of sense, especially towards the end of the interview. I hope his book is available in electronic format because I'd like to read it.

Your right I’m sure...they don’t go away. They reorganize, and wait. They just wait for the next opportunity...and it will come. We’re dealing with it on both ends....government and church. We’re squeezed in the middle. Tough battling both ends, especially when one opponent, should in truth, be your ally.

Looks like the Podestas and Georgetown Jesuits were continuing a tradition established in the 1960's. Here's an EWTN interview with Terry Beatley of the pro-life movement. She has written a book about how the abortion industry targeted first Protestants and then Catholics to convince them that they could be Catholics by privately opposing abortion while voting for candidates who promoted abortion. Her book reveals what she learned from the late Dr. Bernard Nathanson at an interview she had with him in 2009 when he had terminal cancer.

Dr. Nathanson was a prominent abortion activist in the US before converting to the Catholic faith in 1996. He was active in NARAL from its earliest days. Dr. Nathanson told Beatley that there was a particular "Catholic Strategy" which, with the help of dissenting Catholic theologians whom NARAL used with great effect, was aimed at convincing Catholics to vote for abortion promoting candidates while being personally opposed to abortion. They spent a lot of time with the Kennedys.

Beatley says that the same strategy and arguments were used to legalise same sex marriage.

The "dissenting theologians" named by Dr. Nathanson:

Fr. Richard McCormick, Jesuit Theologian and Professor of Christian Ethics at Georgetown and Notre Dame where he served until 1999, the year before he died at age 77.
    His wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_A._McCormick
This from the NYT gives a clearer picture of what he was about: https://www.nytimes.com/2000/02/15/us/richard-mccormick-theologian-dies-at-77.html

Fr. Charles Curran, I don't know whether this is the correct Charles Curran. If so, he is the only non-Jesuit of the group and seems to be the only one still living. Professor of Human Values at Southern Methodist University, Dallas Texas. He had a troubled relationship with the Catholic University of America and the CDF: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Curran_(theologian) The CDF revoked his "mission" to teach theology, so he moved on to the Methodist college. He sued the CUA in 1989 and lost the case. According to Wikipedia, his differences with the CDF related to published articles on divorce, contraception, masturbation, pre-marital sex and homosexual acts. Not surprisingly, he seems to be a hit with the National Catholic Reporter. According to this article from 2016, Fr. Curran believes that Pope Francis is leaving the door ajar for a change in Church teaching: https://www.ncronline.org/news/people/fr-charles-curran-pope-francis-reforms-are-more-just-style
Also not surprising that he was invited to to speak at Irelands Maynooth (aka Gaynooth) seminary in 2006.

Fr. Robert Drinan, Jesuit priest and lawyer. Dean of (Jesuit) Boston College Law School 1056-1970; Democratic Party member of the US House of Representatives 1971-1981; openly supported legalising abortion while claiming to privately support it; left the political career when Pope John Paul demanded that all priests withdraw from electoral politics; Law Professor at Georgetown 1981 until his death in 2007. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Drinan

Fr. John Courtney Murray, Jesuit theologian. According to Wikipedia, he contended that a "new moral truth" had emerged outside the Church, and he seems to have believed that the Anglo-American West had developed a fuller truth about human dignity. That brought him into conflict which Cardinal Ottaviani and the Holy Office (now called the CDF). In light of the disgraceful treatment of Cardinal Ottaviani at Vatican 2, it's not surprising that Murray was invited to participate at the second session of the Council. He had an input to the Council's document on religious freedom, claiming afterwards that it didn't go far enough whereas Archbishop Lefebre claimed it went too far and contradicted previous Church teaching. He served for a while on a Presidential commission for Lyndon Johnson. After that, according to Wikipedia:

"Murray then turned to questions of how the Church might arrive at new theological doctrines. He argued that Catholics who arrived at new truths about God would have to do so in conversation "on a footing of equality" with non-Catholics and atheists. He suggested greater reforms, including a restructuring of the Church, which he saw as having overdeveloped its notion of authority and hierarchy at the expense of the bonds of love that had, from the start, defined the authentically Christian life."
He died of a heart attack in 1967 at age 63.

Is there really all that much difference between what we know about the above theologians, the St. Gallen Mafia, the Catholic Spring, and Pope Francis? Looks to me that they're all cut from the same cloth.

Here's a link to the EWTN inverview - it's about 10 minutes at the start of the video:

    Dolours.....
This is good account of clerics, many I had forgotten about. This collection, along with others I’m sure, that effectively influenced the hierarchy and mindset of the current establishment today.

No one should be surprised at the existing climate of “catholic “ political positions when so much of their ammo was provided by the “church” itself.

The St.Gallen Mafia served a conduit for those who helped disseminate this strategy to both the clerics and politicals as well...hence, the lack of outrage other than the lip service with few exceptions we are seeing today over “ catholic “ politicians like Cuomo, pelosi etc.

I don’t doubt for one moment that the Podesta/ Hillary campaign seized on these same style “Catholics “ to push the FRANCIS global agenda. And I don’t doubt that they are still active and collaborating with those current politicals into 2020.

Any wonder that there is a hands off silence within the catholic hating media? Why bite the hand that’s feeding them? Exceptions made for the Covington prolife catholics types who actually reflect church teaching on abortion.

They have basically ignored the church abuse scandals, unlike them for their hatred for the faith...again, not wanting to come down on the FRANCIS administration....that shares the same liberal agenda.
Only real Catholics will have a target on them by the global, liberal media.

  16. Bishop To Abort Pols: Don’t Come For Communion

    Dear Friends,

Each January as the nation commemorates the sad anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, marches are held, and vigils are prayed. Those committed to the cause of human rights of the unborn make their voices heard. This year, pro-abortion politicians fearing increased restrictions on abortion have advocated for and passed laws expanding access to abortion in the state of New York. Similar attempts have been made in Virginia.

Efforts to expand access to abortion, allowing murder of children up to the moment of birth is evil. Children are a gift from God, no matter the circumstances of their conception. They not only have a right to life, but we as a society have a moral obligation to protect them from harm.

The champion of this abortion legislation is Andrew Cuomo, a Catholic and governor of New York. Governor Cuomo frequently cites his Catholic faith in support of legislation he favors. His public witness as a Catholic politician, coupled with his stalwart support of abortion, is unacceptable.

Politicians who reside in the Catholic Diocese of Spokane, and who obstinately persevere in their public support for abortion, should not receive Communion without first being reconciled to Christ and the Church (cf. Canon 915; “Worthiness to Receive Holy Communion. General Principles.” Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, 2004).

The Church’s commitment to the life of every human person from conception until death is firm. God alone is the author of life and for the civil government to sanction the willful murder of children is unacceptable. For a Catholic political leader to do so is scandalous.

I encourage the faithful to turn to our Lord in prayer for our political leaders, entrusting them especially to the intercession of St. Thomas More, a public servant who preferred to die at the hands of civil authorities rather than abandon Christ and the Church. Let us also keep the unborn, as well as all pregnant mothers, in our prayers.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us.

Live, Jesus, in our hearts forever.

    In Christ,
    Most Reverend Thomas A. Daly
    Bishop of Spokane

No there isn't any difference IMO and in fact they are simply the continuation of a strategy.
Good interview, I think I will pick up a copy of her book when I have whittled down my stack of to reads... I am curious what the Dr has to say about exactly how it all came about.
