I'm not sure where (in the U.K.?) you are Dolours, but this website has a list of Latin Masses in the U.K. Not FSSP, but maybe the list will be useful. https://lms.org.uk/mass-listings
I'm in Ireland. The TLM is offered in one church in Dublin but it's at an inconvenient time in an awkward part of the city that's hard for me to get to and a nightmare for parking. Mass in Latin is offered in the Pro-Cathedral which in the city centre but it's also at an awkward time and anyway it's just the new Mass said in Latin. Mass in the vernacular isn't really a problem for me, and fortunately the priests in our parish seem to be quite orthodox although I don't believe I have ever heard them mention sin in a homily. In fact, I can't recall when I last heard sin mentioned in any homily and I go to Mass in various churches. We hear lots about mercy, charity and welcoming strangers but that's about it. At the Christmas vigil Mass when it's standing room only and Communion lines stretching the length of the Church, the priest might mention that there's Mass in the Church every Sunday. Everyone laughs and goes home full of the Christmas spirit. Our parish priest did once mention the possibility of missing out on Heaven after we die if we don't live good lives. That was leading up to Confirmation time and the Mass seemed to be part of the children's preparation for Confirmation. I think that particular priest is very orthodox but our priests seem to be afraid of being seen as harsh and frightening people away from the Faith. It's probably easier for FSSP priests to talk about sin and Hell because their congregations expect to hear the hard as well as the soft teachings of the Gospel. In most ordinary parishes, the parishioners have grown up only hearing the soft teachings in their schools and churches while the media bang on incessantly about the merciless Catholic Church. It's hard for the average faithful priest to counteract that when the reaction will likely be people walking away and complaining to the media about the bigoted priest who has just caused their children to have nightmares and turned them against Catholicism.
Dolours, you also have the SSPX Latin mass at Mounttown near Dun Laoighre at 11 pm on Sunday and there is also Silverstream, a new traditional Benedictine community near Stamullen in Meath but close to Dublin. So there maybe more Latin mass options in Ireland than you think!
Dun Laoghaire would be easier for me but I don't know what parking is like there. I've been to the ferry terminal lots of times but I if I was ever in the town I don't remember it. Stamullen is further away and I think their Mass is earlier - maybe 10 a.m. As long as we have orthodox priests and there isn't a constant stream of laity tripping over each other in the sanctuary, I'm happy enough going to Mass in my own parish, and I've come across a few other churches where Mass isn't all about the priest with a walk-on part for nearly everybody in the audience. The World Over programme on EWTN last night was very good. Their solution to the latest scandal in the US wasn't all that different than my own except that it didn't cover the lavender culture in the seminaries. The spokesman from the Catholic League did address the homosexual aspect but, although it was included in the same segment of the programme, there really wasn't any solution offered. There really needs to be better psychological and pyschiatric assessments of candidates for the priesthood. An evaluation of priests formed in problem seminaries may also be required. Bishops and Superiors General of religious orders should be held accountable where seminaries in their jurisdiction are found to have approved or in some cases encouraged the ordination of men whose opinions or behaviour indicated a poor understanding of or dissent from Church teaching. Focusing on 50 year old abuse cases of minors won't solve the ongoing problem which is really about dissent from a range of Church teaching. Child abuse cases are rare nowadays and can be minimised by strict adherence to procedures already in place. Disgruntled men who went through the ordination process expecting a change in Church teaching on a married priesthood and same sex relationships will be around for decades. The consequences of that, apart from whatever errors they will spread, will be kiss & tell stories and compensation claims from disgruntled partners of either sex. And they will continue to have support from priests who dissent from various other teachings of the Church. What use are priests who say they accept all that the Church teaches and get away with teaching error as long as they don't fall foul of secularist media or pressure groups?
This is a video Michael Voris posted yesterday that I find disturbing, and I'll tell you why,... One the Bishops that he mentions, or should I say points the finger at as guilty of wrong doing is Bishop Rueger whom was accused by one man who later dropped the charge and this Bishop had this case against him dismissed. I can understand Michaels anger, but has he crossed the line and defamed someone who is totally innocent? This is a well liked Bishop whom confirmed me in the 80's when I became serious about my Catholic faith.
It worries me, too, that innocent men will be tarred with the same brush as the guilty. Could you contact Voris, telling him that he has falsely accused Bishop Rueger and ask him to issue a correction? I think that Church Militant has a Facebook page.
Yes, I sent him an e-mail but haven't heard back yet,... Will let you know if I get a reply As bad as it is, charity should always reign in our hearts, and we should always be on guard against bearing false witness as that is a very serious offence
Yes. And if he was wrong about that Bishop he could be wrong about others. It looks like he, or someone on his team, drew up a list of Bishops who had been accused of abuse or cover-ups and didn't check to see if the cases had been resolved. That's something he needs to address or he will lose all credibility. In some ways, the people who disparage him by highlighting his past show themselves to be more vindictive than him. By getting it wrong in even one case, he gives them ammunition to say that he is wrong in all or nearly all cases. The type of approach that Voris uses has its disadvantages. Also, he's running a business. Christ's Church is not a commercial enterprise where CEO's or board members can be dismissed by a shareholder revolt. I have heard well connected Catholics talk about the Church as though it were just another business competing for market share. In some ways, both the regular Catholic media and Voris appear to be treating the Church as though it were a business, although they may not be conscious of it. The Gospel message transcends all that. Mercy and justice are not mutually exclusive. Both are essential to the message of the Gospel. Finding the right balance is the key. Thus far, neither the "nothing to see" crowd nor Voris seem to have found that balance.
This is a blast from the past and would scare you half to death. 2 Corinthians 11:14 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
Whoa. I don't believe in coincidences. This is why we have to pay attention and not bury our heads in the sand and attempt to wish it all away.
Thank you. While not one of his most ardent fans, I do believe that Voris deserves to be heard because he is saying what a lot of people are thinking, and he could make a difference. We really can't tell whether his motives are genuine. Assuming he is genuine, he should be diligent in not ruining the reputations of innocent priests or bishops. It is worrying, however, that there could be a residue of Cardinal McCarrick's influence infecting the Church for a long time. Very few Catholic media outlets are willing to ask searching questions or risk being ostracised by their Bishops, and the secular media's motivation appears to be using abuse scandals as leverage to have the Church change its teachings on marriage and sexual morality. I had a phone call today out of the blue from an old friend in England. An elderly lady and a very devout Catholic, she had been at some Church related event and met someone who was complaining about a speaker at the WMF. That person was complaining about the Irish Bishops inviting someone with a reputation for promoting the gay agenda in the Church. My friend couldn't remember the name of the speaker and was asking did I know who he was. After our phone conversation, I had a look at the list of speakers and panelists but, other than Fr. James Martin, I don't know which of the speakers would have that reputation. Nevertheless, my heart sank when I saw the list. See for yourself: https://www.worldmeeting2018.ie/en/Programme/Speakers-and-Contributors
The comment by the Pope about the Devil not having the Cardinal's accomodations ready just sounds so Irish to me.
It's downright depressing. The latest from Fr. Palka: https://epiphanytampa.weebly.com/pastors-bulletin-article/archives/08-2018 From the Pastor: How Bad Could the Blackmail Be? If you didn’t read my article in last week’s bulletin, you really should before reading this one as it will help put some things into proper perspective. That said, I promised to continue explaining just what an AH/HA bishop (see last week’s article for an explanation) always threatens to do—and actually does—as often as necessary to keep the “peace” through a reign of fear and intimidation. His own power and “pleasure” (sick though these may be) are his main goals. Not Heaven. Not salvation. Not true love of God or true love of man. Remember that my premise is that an AH/HA priest or bishop has no true Catholic faith. Last week I showed you some of what is in a priest’s file. The bishop has constant control of said file. He alone determines what does or does not go into the file, what might be clandestinely removed from it (see the parable of the unjust steward), and what might be “leaked” from it. The bishop also has complete control over a priest’s assignments, faculties, housing, health insurance, and paycheck, and, to a large degree, his reputation. A priest who gets on the bad side of a bishop (and that can happen even with a good priest who has a good bishop but I am referring here to an AH/HA bishop) will get the worst assignment the bishop can conjure up. But how bad could it really be? A young priest who insists on preaching Catholic faith and morals will almost assuredly be sent to an AH/HA pastor to “straighten him out” (a very bad use of words). His AH/HA pastor will berate him both privately and publicly and tear him apart behind his back at every moment with slander, calumny, innuendo, and lies. The young priest will be intimidated and bullied as few have ever witnessed or imagined. The AH/HA pastor has filled his staff with AH/HA lay people and deacons and the young priest has nobody to whom to turn. There is nobody to reassure him that he is not the “bad guy” with the exception of a handful of good, faithful Catholic parishioners whom the pastor and staff have not yet been able to run off. He will not be respected by anyone else except God. The pastor will not allow him to teach. Most of the time he will have the AH/HA deacon assigned to preach for him and he will be forced to listen silently to heretical sermons. He will be assigned all of the “dirty work” and he will be always at everyone’s beck and call for non-priestly duties and always under scrutiny. Word will go out to all pastors that he is a pathetic loser and that they should refuse him as an associate during personnel changes. He will be called down to the AH/HA bishop’s office on a regular basis to be accused of being heartless and a sorry excuse for a priest. He will be threatened to be relieved of his faculties or, at best, assigned as a chaplain at a hospital or nursing home. His file will grow as the bishop waves in his face every anonymous, outrageous, deceptive, unCatholic letter from those following the AH/HA crowd as “proof” of his lack of fitness to be a priest. Everything will be done to encourage him to either engage in immorality, quit preaching against immorality, or just get the heck out. He constantly faces the reality that, after having endured eight or nine years of Pink Palace Seminary, he might be forced out after fewer years of priesthood. He will watch as his friends, those good men ordained with him, “flee the wolves” one after another and he will see his AH/HA seminary associates promoted and rewarded. It’s no wonder so many leave. But why would he remain silent after he leaves the priesthood? He knows AH/HA pastors who have boyfriends, who perform same-sex “marriages”, who cook the books, etc. He knows at least some of the immoral activity of his former AH/HA bishop. How can blackmail extend even into his lay life? Remember the file. The AH/HA bishop will do anything to retain control of this man’s life in order to protect and amuse himself. One example is sufficient: A “good” bishop might annually invite all ex-priests and their wives to a dinner. He will show them that he cares about them, wants to be sure their families are doing well, and even, in a roundabout way, let them know he is sorry they felt forced to leave in order to keep their masculinity and morality. An AH/HA bishop, on the other hand, invites them to dinner for sinister motives. He holds out the rotten carrot that maybe soon the Pope might allow them to return to ministry and, as long as they have been “good”, they can return to where they know they belong. He buys their silence. Even worse, the AH/HA bishop is not so subtly telling them, “I know your contact information. I know your family. I know your place of employment. Mess with me or one of mine and I will destroy you. I will pull something from your file (or place something in your file) and release it to the public, to your employer, to your children’s school. You will be an unemployable ex-priest and maybe also an ex-husband and ex-father.” Yes, they are that evil. Starting to understand the silence? More to come next week.
I am aghast. This is surely a glimpse into Hell. What brave priest could endure it? How is it we still have any priests at all who are trying to be good priests? How can they defend themselves? What can the people in the pews do? Beyond prayer and sacrifices what can be done? Only God can fix it. I pray it is coming soon. For all our sakes.
I suppose it may have been a little like this in the first seminary, when Jesus and Our Lady were leading and directing the Apostles. The situation then, in many ways seems to be very like now. After Jesus died we are told in Scripture was in charge , 'For he was a thief...'. The uestion arise how did they know Judas was a thief? Clearly if they had known he was a thief they would have had him removed. So I take it this came to light after Judas died. Of course Jesus and probably Our LAdy knew he was a thief becuase Jesus was God. Yet they let him stay at it. Why? Well oen of Chrit's parables gives the reason, that the weeds and corn are allowed to grown side by side till it was time for the angels to make the harvest and cut them down and seperate the two. But of course if Judas was thieving what else was he up to. I think Raymond Arroyo but his finger on this. Wehn you find a honey pot of theft that is where you also find sexual misbehaviour. The tow things go side by side...and of course we know the Vaticna is full too the brim with thieves. Mega thieves. So we can fully expect that the Vatican is full of all kinds of perversion since the two things go together. Which is why finanacial, independent supervision and forensic srcutiny is so important. We nedd to catch the Judas's.
