The McDonalds seem to have run foul of some of their neighbours. That they had strong family links to Ireland was also a consideration in the decision to wipe them out. That was a horrible period in history. Whatever about Bonny Prince Charlie, the Stuarts weren't exactly a loving family. Incidentally, did you know that New York was named in honour of James - he was Duke of York and it was renamed from New Amsterdam to New York? Not an Irish song, but I came across this video on YouTube when I was searching for Bean Phaidin. Back in 1990, Dolly Parton was in Paidi O Se's pub during a holiday in Co. Kerry. They asked her to sing a song and she sang Coat of Many Colours. The video is a classic. Paidi gave her his All-Ireland winning jersey. Everyone in the pub would have walked over coals to get their hands on that jersey. Fair dues to Dolly, she showed some class. Good on her, and God rest Paidi's soul. Here's the video:
..awwww wonderful. I visited Paidi's one time, I remember a little stream at the front door and being struck how huge the place was. I sang a few songs standing on a table to much laughter and encouragment. I love Kerry. I would love to walk around there in the wilds. Dolly looked and sounded wonderful; so relaxed.
