Law enforcement officials and legal marijuana industry leaders alike are beginning to suspect the Mexican drug cartels played a role in starting deadly the fires. While massive wildfires are far from uncommon in California’s forests, they usually occur in December and January, not October. Moreover, this year’s have widely been described as unprecedented in size and destruction. Well, I decided that a duvet day is in order. The full force of the storm hasn't reached us yet. My sister who lives a few miles away has no electricity but she's on a different line than us. The word from family in high risk areas is that all is well with them. I'm tucked up in bed with TV on, watching news reports of idiots "braving" the sea with not a care for the people in the emergency services who will be called to risk their lives to save them if their stunts go haywire. It's kinda cosy here listening to the wind. Reports so far are that two lives have been lost. One lady died when part of a tree fell on her car, and one young man had an accident when using a chain saw on a fallen tree. We had plenty of warning and plenty of time to prepare ourselves. Some hotels and B&Bs are offering shelter for the homeless and stranded motorists. Portugal, on the other hand, seems to be in a bad way with two-thirds of land affected by wild fires. God help them. Think I'll get a hot chocolate drink while we still have power. Stay safe everyone.

The roads are very quiet and there are few out in the streets. I saw a lady walking up the street with three very young children in great gusts of wind. Crazy

Yes, just like with prayer. We must listen for the still quiet voice. We can easily miss this if we are buried in our sin or the cares of this world. How much more so if we do not even have the desire to be close to God or even have the flicker of the flame of desire to pray for that matter.

Wow thank you Brian. Yes, much much greater than Jonah indeed. During my meditation this morning I was thinking about Joseph and the dream that he had where the Angel told him to take the Child and Mother and to flee to Egypt and not return until he was instructed to. At which he fled in the night with them. I was thinking about this sign he received, an Angel in his dream, and how we today want to have signs. In fact I wonder if it is not because people demand them of God that we have so little Faith. We demand signs and grand ones at that. Yet, when we are surrounded by signs do we see more people coming to Mass? To pray the Rosary? No. Because we do not want a sign, we want that which is of this world.

Thank you. Your prayers are being answered in my neck of the woods because the worst of the storm seems to have passed us by. I hear gusts of wind outside but I have experienced worse storms here. Hope I'm not speaking too soon. Cork was hit hard with roofs blown off buildings and lots of trees down. The schools will remain closed tomorrow.
