I noticed that in the Euthanasia video I watched after the poor woman died there were only very distant shots of her face But from what I could see she looked a horror. I will never watch anything like this again Death does not worry me but the fact that the poor souls may be off to hell is terrifying.
N So, I think it is the first shadows of evening. But we are well into events foretold in the Apocalypse, there is not doubt about it. But you know God is Free; His hands are not tied. A lot has to do with our response. We too are free agents.
This is how the old Catholic Encyclopedia defines the sin of presumption: It may be defined as the condition of a soul that, because of a badly regulated reliance on God’s mercy and power, hopes for salvation without doing anything to deserve it, or for pardon of his sins without repenting of them.
It seems to me the New Mercy goes even further saying you can and should repent for your sins, 'feel' ashamed and feel the sorrow, but there is no need to amend your live if what the Teaching of the Church proposes is 'unrealistic' in today's culture, like living in chastity, which is relegated to a mere option only liveable by a few virtuoso men. In Amoris Laetitia chastity for the remarried divorcees is even attacked as rigid option and a danger to the adulterous relationship which needs to be saveguarded by any means (good or bad) for the shake of the kids - as if witnessing to the faith before your (or someone else's) kids by living in chastity and acknoleding the reality of the sacrament of marriage was dangerous for them. And for the preachers of the new Church like Cardinal Marx or Cupich this applies even to all irregular situations, homosexual couples included, because we should focus on the 'good aspects' in homosexual marriages... They make it look like is all a very noble thing to do.
Thanks for typing this up Padraig. This is exactly the problem with some in the Church. They are telling people what they want to hear. Telling them: You don't need to change the way you are living. You don't need to stop sinning. That is just an ideal. An ideal that is not really able to be reached by many. Is there anything more evil than coddling people in their sin and telling them it is not sin or that God's Grace is not sufficient to overcome the sin? Despicable and evil! There is no greater evil one can do to a soul than coddle it in sin all the way to it's eternal damnation.
I think it is a little bit like walking up to someone and punching someone the face and before they can even react smiling at them and thanking them for forgiving you. Actually it is even worse than that, it is living a lifestyle of continually punching someone in the face and constantly assuming forgiveness. It sounds an awful lot to me like the sin against the Holy Spirit. http://irishapologist.blogspot.co.uk/2010/04/sin-of-presumption.html
Yes. The sin against the Holy Spirit is final impenitence, which is what will happen to people if they follow this line of thinking and not repenting of their sins.
That is terrible but think of something even worse, that are Spiritual Leaders are directing ordinary people along this road to hell. What could be more terrible than this? They are actually playing Satans' role perfectly.
This is chilling. So calm and so rational about her "choice"---I could understand this attitude in someone ignorant of natural law and God's law but she was a Nun! And a philosopher. I cannot fathom this terrifying attitude.
As to lay people..well where can we ask questions really? How can we ask them? Is anyone listening? For Ireland, I think our great hope is what is going on in the Universal Church, the questions that are being asked elsewhere. What a pity, you might think the Irish would have been a little more, well feisty. [/QUOTE] More of the diabolical disorientation. Should we be surprised? It's only just begun.
If you have lost the sense of sin you are almost--unless someone is praying hard for you--bound to be impenitent. You simply have no reference point or conscience. It frightens me because some souls I love dearly are in this place. Maybe deep down there remains grace. I pray for it but on the surface what appears to be their earnest worldliness frightens me.
I also was under the impression that presuming on God's mercy would be something like committing the same sin over and over again And thinking "God will forgive me" Just presuming. That might be a part of it
It seems clear from everything she says that she values her intellectual abilities and achievements above all else, including God, and the one thing she cannot bear to lose is her cognitive ability. So what that all comes down to in the end is pride.
Really? I'm heartened to hear this. I go to the Novus Ordo 5-6 days a week and a traditional Latin Mass 3-4 Sundays a month. I think the more devout Catholics become, the more they can appreciate the mystery and solemnity of the old mass.
http://catholicism.org/clarifying-illuminating-notes-bishop-schneider-vatican-ii.html Some Clarifying and Illuminating Notes from Bishop Schneider on Vatican II "The same process of correction must be applied to the many problematical statements in the documents of Vatican II, a Council whose ambiguous “pastoral” texts are unlike those of any other Council in the history of the Church. “There must,” Bishop Athanasius concludes, “be created in the Church a serene climate of a doctrinal discussion regarding those statements of Vatican II which are ambiguous or which have caused erroneous interpretations. In such a doctrinal discussion there is nothing scandalous, but on the contrary, it will be a contribution in order to maintain and explain in a more sure and integral manner the deposit of the immutable faith of the Church.” Full text is here.
So I am all for the 'old Mass', as I have attended it at St. Agnes in St. Paul, Mn. and Father John Hardon's retreats where he would sometimes say it in Latin. That being said, I am not interested in going to a Latin mass that is not united to the Roman Catholic Church (St. Pius X and others).
Has anyone here watched the documentary series on Netflix called "The Keepers"? Bill Donohue writes, "The series focuses on the unresolved murder of Sister Cathy Cesnik. It invites the audience to consider whether she was killed to cover-up sexual abuse at the high school where she worked, Archbishop Keough in Baltimore. Was the Archdiocese of Baltimore involved in the cover-up? The film dances around the issue, but the implication is clear. Importantly, there is no evidence to support its thesis, but who cares? The goal is to indict by innuendo. No one disputes that Father Joseph Maskell sexually molested students at the high school in the 1960s. The question is whether he had anything to do with the murder of the nun. No one knows. The docu-series relies heavily on the testimony of one woman. She says she was sexually abused by Father Maskell in the late 1960s. She also alleges that he passed her around to cops, businessmen, and local officials, all of whom abused her. She says she told this to Sister Cathy shortly before she disappeared. She also claims that Father Maskell took her to see the nun’s body, warning her about her fate should she squeal." Now I have no idea about the validity of the claims that this series makes. In fact, I have not watched it but my sister has joined this whole group of cultish forums that feverishly seek to undermine and destroy the Catholic Church based on the crimes by priests, scandalous statements by Pope Francis, and you all know the rest. It is made up of many lukewarm and former Catholics and haters. My sister had one foot out of the Church door but thank God she brought all of this to my attention. She is not a practicing Catholic but never entertained the idea of leaving it. Catholics are falling away in droves and that could very well be God's plan to separate the goats from the sheep. It is just so horrible to witness. This series is just one more tool to bury our beloved Church. It may very well be truthful but it has revived the hate and angst on a grand scale. One "trusted" news source reported this. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/netflix-the-keepers-series-controversy-catholic-church-baltimore-murder/ I think I will write with a big black sharpie on every wall of the house, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life."
