I have been told of this little miracle. One thing I wonder about though, is how I am going to remove and put on the many layers I will be wearing because it's cold weather now
I don't know. I didn't think about that. When I went it was in the Spring or early Summer. The baths are inside but they kind of moved us through quickly and we had to go outside again, but that was 20 years ago. The facility might be different now. You might just have to wait until you get there and see what it's like. Maybe they are closed in winter, I don't know.
Monday is day 5 of the novena. You can get a quick look at the cubicles and baths in this youtube video from 2015. The entire video is only about 3 minutes' duration.
Yes, not so daunting as you might have expected. I'm sure I read something on the website about the baths being open through the winter but for a shorter duration than in Summer. That video was a clip from a TV programme about pilgrimages to sacred places in different religions. Lourdes was part one of a series and it was all about war wounded US service men going on pilgrimage. There's an annual military pilgrimage for forces from various countries around the world and a US Catholic Charity helps America's war wounded join the pilgrimage. The full video was interesting. Here it is:
Bumping this up to remind everyone! Grateful I saw it tonight! Novena Dates February 2-10, Feast Day February 11 O ever Immaculate Virgin, Mother of Mercy, Health of the Sick, Refuge of Sinners, Comfort to the Afflicted, you know my wants, my troubles, my sufferings. Deign to cast upon me a look of mercy. By appearing in the Grotto of Lourdes, you were pleased to make it a privileged sanctuary, whence you dispense your favors; and already many sufferers have obtained the cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and corporal. I come, therefore, with the most unbounded confidence to implore your maternal intercession. Obtain, O loving Mother, the granting of my requests. Through gratitude for favors, I will endeavor to imitate your virtues that I may one day share your glory. Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us. Amen. (Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be.) They open at Easter. Our lady told Bernadette to wash her face and hands in the water, so pilgrims in Winter can go to one of the many taps near the grotto and do likewise.
It looks like they are opening the baths for a limited time during winter (one hour morning and afternoon on weekdays and 90 minutes on Sunday afternoon). You're welcome. If you happen to have a stopover in Paris, try to get to the church where Our Lady appeared to St. Catherine Laboure and gave her the instructions for the miraculous medal. Visiting that church is on my bucket list and I'm thinking I might be able to fit it into a day trip. We can get cheap flights to Paris but hotels there are too expensive for a city that I wouldn't be bothered visiting other than going to that church. Reminding everyone that Thursday is day 8 of the Novena. Dolours, you have just saved me from making a big boo boo! I had actually already been planning to go to the church where St Catherine Laboure saw Mother Mary and got told to have the miraculous medal made. However, I had somehow gotten it into my head that the church concerned was Sacre Coure. Thank you for giving me the name of the correct church. Mother Mary herself must have told you to mention this to me
Wow, that's more than a coincidence. According to reviewers on trip advisor, the Church is hard to find because it's tucked away behind a door or gate on Rue du Bac and easily missed. It's near an upmarket department store called Le Bon Marche which also has a food/grocery department named La Grande Epicerie that people rave about. I get the impression that in a city like Paris it might be easier to find your way to Le Bon Marche and from there to the church of the miraculous medal. Check out the reviews on trip advisor and see how even people with little or no faith are touched by the reverence and sense of the sacred there which is rare in more famous European churches and cathedrals.
There are no coincidences Until recently I thought that was just a nice saying to show devotion, but I have since learned that it is actually a strong part of Catholic theology. Even the tiniest things in our lives happen to us for a reason. If we trip on the way out the door and drop something on the ground and make a mess that we have to clean up it may be to make sure we avoid the car crash we would have gotten into if we hadn't. That is why we always need to be thankful for seeming "problems" that happen to us. There is often a blessing we just don't see.
