Pope Francis has made his position on abortion absolutely clear in his interview on the plane:
Abortion is not the lesser of two evils. It is a crime. It is to throw someone out in order to save another. That’s what the Mafia does. It is a crime, an absolute evil.....

Don’t confuse the evil of avoiding pregnancy by itself, with abortion. Abortion is not a theological problem, it is a human problem, it is a medical problem. You kill one person to save another, in the best case scenario. Or to live comfortably, no? It’s against the Hippocratic oaths doctors must take. It is an evil in and of itself, but it is not a religious evil in the beginning, no, it’s a human evil. Then obviously, as with every human evil, each killing is condemned.

Pope Francis, however, does not confuse the sin with the sinner.

Pope Francis certainly confused the sin with the sinner when he lauded her deeds without distinguishing which deeds he was praising. The week after he declared abortion to be evil, he praised the deeds of a mass murderer when he called her a forgotten great for her deeds.

You know that he was praising the lady for her good deeds, not her sins.

No, the rubrics have NOT changed. He just won't do it. I've seen very old priests genuflect and then have altar boys assist them in standing back up. Good priests.

How do I know? Is "never mind" the clue?

Don't be jumping ship, now, regardless of the captain. The pope could sprout horns and there's still no way their getting me off this ship! My butt's nailed to the seat.

'Clever' answers don't change the truth. You know that the Pope was referring to the good things the lady had done.
Does it not concern you that God might view the judging of a person a greater sin than abortion? One sin kills the body, the other tries to kill a person's reputation.

I would have said the same until yesterday. Now, I'm not so sure. The rationalising about this statement turns my stomach. This is on a par with a Pope saying that Hitler was a forgotten great because he built great roads in Germany and lifted plenty of Germans out of poverty for a while but never mind about the holocaust.

This lady is very proud of her reputation for killing babies and spreading her culture of death as a solution to poverty. Would Jesus have said "never mind" to her methods? I think not.

Yep. Several years ago I was in school to be a teacher (at a Catholic college!) and was told by the State of Minnesota that I would not be allowed a teaching license because I am too conservative.

  11. 1 John 3:15

    Love One Another
14We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death.15Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.16We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.…

When one totally gives up another to Satan and encourages others to do so rather than be open to conversion and praying for that, that is the worst kind of hatred of him or her because it is final and would, I would think, be a cause for tears of blood from the Mother. Of course, even with conversion, always brought about through the ongoing merits of Christ's suffering, there is still justice and the punishment due....only, hopefully, not eternal damnation. Since those with the darkest sins are those who most deserve His unfathomable Mercy, those who would encourage others to hate the person or neglect prayer for him/her, defy this greatest of gifts from the Savior of all.

Crazy, I would regard this as a form of violence and persecution. It's hard not to get very, very angry sometimes.

How does that tie in with praising a mass murderer for her deeds and dismissing with a "never mind" her anti-Christian words and promotion of abortion?

Nobody here is saying we shouldn't pray for the woman or the Pope. Hiding our heads in the sand will not justify calling evil good. With that single praise for someone who wears evil proudly, the Holy Father undermined all the faithful Christians who struggle daily in the pro-life cause.

I am reminded of Michael O'Brien's latest, "Elijah in Jerusalem," where there are multiple characters of questionable moral background that surprise Elijah and provide important assistance.

One of them is a hardened, world-wise female character (perhaps reminiscent of a figure like Ms. Bonino?) that is particularly helpful to Fr. Elijah in his battle against the antichrist.

    Food for thought, I suppose.

Here is what really bothers me, spin it any way you want:

Traditional novus ordo catholics are hypocrites, pharisees according to this pope
Atheist abortionists like Emma are great

That is a wonderful school! I decided to be a nurse instead. I have been running into problems there too lately. Euthanasia issues......most of the other nurses I work with think disabled children are a burden and that parents are selfish for wanting them to live. Many stories I could tell about that. I originally wanted to be a scientist and possibly do research on curing cancer or something like that, but was pretty much forced out of that in college by all of the militant atheists in the field.

I feel very uncomfortable voicing criticism of the Pope, especially on an internet forum, but there comes a stage where we have to speak up. This isn't right. The "Jesus ate with sinners and prostitutes" excuse is wearing thin. I love that he loves the poor and that he supports human rights. Dead babies have no rights. There are plenty of pro-life Catholics he could praise to the newspapers and have over to dinner. Showing kindness to an abortionist can be done in private. Setting her up as some kind of example is a disgrace.

"little me, post ....."Don't be jumping ship, now, regardless of the captain. The pope could sprout horns and there's still no way their getting me off this ship! My butt's nailed to the seat."
YUP!! The Church is and always has been filled Humans and thus plenty of weakness, scandals and "wrong-turns" that can be pointed to over the past two thousand years ...... but She has survived and become stronger at times of wickedness, strife and persecution. The guys in fancy robes and operating out of beautiful basilicas are not the end of our journey but only facilitators to Christ and our salvation. If all the trappings of The Church help us on that journey well and good but our eyes should always be on Christ and The Holy Trinity! The Church is not all the earthly trappings but The Holy Trinity, The Heavenly Host, Saints Triumphant and struggling Saints Militant!

    GOD SAVE ALL HERE!!
