Hi everyone, this is my first ever post so forgive me if I have updated this in the wrong forum. I would like to say before I launch into my story that I log into this site regularly and it has really helped me to keep going (particularly in times of great stress). I have just started insolvency proceedings and I am scared and stressed and would appreciate any prayers. To make a very long story very short I worked with my creditor for nine years and sacrificed so much only to realise that I was never going to be able to pay off this debt. I am sick with worry that they may force me into bankruptcy and this will risk losing the family home however I have vowed to brave the elements with the support of my husband and I am sending my forms off in the post tomorrow. Thank you so much in advance.
Many people have worked with debt relief companies, to eliminate debt (especially credit cards) to get them back on track. I would suggest this before you go bankruptcy route. These companies work with people to substantially reduce debt and still manage to pay the creditor back what they agree upon. Soon enough, when prophecy is fulfilled, we will all be in the same debt crisis/employment crisis. It looks to be sooner than later now. Will keep you in prayer.
Memorare said that things will work out for you. I go to Mass most days and while there I offer the intentions of everyone on the forum who asks for prayers, so from now on your intentions will be included. I suggest that you do a novena to St. Anthony.
Thank you so much Fatima, my debt is hundreds of thousands, a hangover from the property crash here in Ireland (2007). I am sending forms off to the Insolvency company tomorrow who will fight my case for me, I am hoping the bank agree a deal with them as they have refused all mine to date.
I will be praying for you and your family, Hannah. There are a lot of families out there who struggle with debt and it is a hard cross to bear. I do hope you find peace because peace is difficult when you are in debt. God bless.
Hang in there. I'll be near St. Anthony's shrine tomorrow and will pop in to light a candle for you. Just don't lose heart......remember that this too shall pass.
I didn't realize you are in Ireland. I don't know how things work there. My husband and I filed for chapter 13 bankruptcy (reorganization) back in 2007 and we made payments on our debt for 5 years and the payment was based on our disposable income. It was organized so that the secured debt- our car was paid first and then the left overs went to the credit cards. It was incredibly stressful when we first filed because we had to go to the court for a the trustee to hear our case. I remember that I had a severe panic attack. I will include you in my daily Rosary!
Thank you cornhusker, I keep telling myself it is only numbers but I have good days and more bad days despite trying to stay afloat. These last couple of weeks have been particularly hard as I pondered over the insolvency route already worn out from the previous nine years. I have to believe whatever the outcome it will be the right one for my family and I. I am blessed to have great family support and also realise that I would never have turned to prayer if it hadn't turned sour ..... Always a silver lining!
Hannah, I'm sorry for your troubles and will pray for your situation. I would think that nine years of honest effort to resolve The Crash of 07/08 that effected so many of us in the West is enough! ( My home is still worth 25% less than it was in 06 ) Sometimes Bankruptcy is the only way to go and when it's over you may get a good night's sleep for a change. GOD SAVE ALL HERE!!
Oh AllinNY yes these last few weeks have been the worst, I genuinely wanted to work it out but the bank is too difficult to deal with. I have always tried to be honourable so I feel like a bold child!
Y Many thanks CrewDog, my family home is also in negative equity I basically bought our home and had sale agreed on our previous home right at the cusp of the crash, then everything fell apart.
Thank you all so much, I will keep you updated on my journey and trust God that whatever the result it will be the right one. I have decided from now on that I will offer up this pain for the holy souls xx
Praying for you. Not sure how it works in Ireland, but here I believe one of the bankruptcies ( Chapter 13 maybe) allows you to retain your home.
Prayers going up , Hannah. I will be praying thorugh the day. I can know where you are coming from. A few years back I got myself into deep debt thorugh my own foolishness I might add after buying my first house. I struggled for years to pay it of but eventually realised I had become a debt slave and I would never get it paid if I lived to be a thousand, that the most I could ever hope for was just to service the interest. So I took the plunge and sold the house and went under. You know what? It was the best thing I could have done. Debt worry is such an awful thing, I suppose it must be a hundred times worse with a family. Though I asked my mother one time about this and she said something that delighted me. She said, 'Padraig, worry about many things in life but never ever worry about money, its just not worth worrying about!' Coming from a woman who brought up ten children this really went to my heart , especially since I could see looking at her that she really put these things into practise. Another time I mentioned to her an unexpected and troublesome bill I had just got. She asked me at once if I had the money to pay it? When I said I had she laughed and asked me what I was worried about then! But though Jesus taught us not to worry it is hard not to. But I would say one thing which I hope will help you , drawing from my own experience. It is this, you are I believe just about to come out the other side of this and believe me the other side is a lot better than the side you are on now. In a real sense you have to drown in it before you can learn to swim. It may not seem like it now but debt is a great teacher. One thing it taught me was a lot about humility. Another about living very simply and frugally within my limits. About what is important and not important in life. The material things rank way down there. When we die the one sure thing is that God will not ask us any questions about money trouble and if it doesn't concern Him it should not much concern us. The only money trouble that might get us in hot flames was that we had too much of it. Anyway prayers going up. Don't forget you're on the upward spiral.
