IJOP, what would it take for you to be concerned? The hope is that this is false....but basically telling a Lutheran he can receive Communion? How can this be? If he wants to receive Communion, why not just become Catholic, for goodness sakes?
For me its very simple. I don't believe the Pope made this comment himself. Its Catholic teaching non- Catholics cannot receive communion. Just the same with Orthodox don't allow Catholics to receive....Papa Francis has said we need to work toward this one Unity last year. Since some Lutherans believe its only grape juice and bread, I find it hard to believe Papa Francis has no concerns. But im in the crowd that gives Papa Francis the benefit of the doubt . Francis is Christs Vicar!? Some want to run with every press release.... stay small, we all need to pray more I think.
He sounds more like our Lady of Akita!! The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their confreres (other priests); churches and altars will be sacked; the Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord. The demon will be especially implacable against souls consecrated to God. The thought of the loss of so many souls is the cause of my sadness. If sins increase in number and gravity, there will be no longer pardon for them. With courage, speak to your superior.

'....the Church will be full of those who accept compromises' There is an Easy Road and a Hard Road. The Easy Road is to bury your head in the sand and act like it is all not happening. The Hard Road is to wake up, smell the coffee and say a resounding, 'No'.
Have I got news for the Lutherans. LOL Some years ago, a friend of mine was a trusted housekeeper for our parish Priest. There was some communion wine left in the store they wanted to get rid of, so I was offered it if I wanted it. Well, I thought it was 2% alcohol and poured myself a glass like Shandy, half a pint or so. Boy was I wrong. It was fortified wine apparently, and it should be consumed like sherry. Need I say more.
Pedro Regis, among others, have been repeating redundantly that great confusion would enter into the Church and we are in it. However, it is not time to 'knee jerk' our commentary lest we work into the hands of the evil one. We need to give the benefit of doubt to Christ's Vicar, as we have gone through this confusion of words before. The confusion will get much much greater. We need to pray more and be slower to respond to unconfirmed statements.

If this kind of thing happened only once or twice I would agree. But it happens over and over and over again and is showing a very clear pattern. We getting to hear the Pope talking from the back door and I have coem to believe this is no accident. The Pope is talking through the back door because he intends to talk through the back door. It is his way of doing buiness.
So, one of two things is taking place. Either Satan is causing great confusion or Holy Father is. I am betting on Satan.

And you are wise, miker. I would be interested in hearing quite what is horrifying everyone? The quoted comment from Francis is what I would hope him say, although privately! The question people should be asking is, what would Jesus have replied to the same question? Jesus wants those who believe to receive Him in the Holy Eucharist. Many Lutherans do believe in the real presence so are people concerned mainly because Pope Francis is 'breaking the rules' or are they concerned with something else?
I don't take a position. There is no way to know if it is true or not, but Rocco is a respectable journalist, and like Padraig said, this has happened quite a few times now. It is at least concerning, though.
So what is stopping them from becoming Catholic? Even if some Lutherans do believe in the Real Presence, they have no Bishops with valid orders to ordain priests. Communion is a sign of unity. What would Jesus have replied to the question? "Enter the Church which I have founded."
