Maybe its because it takes time to know whether a heterodox view can be assimilated into the Faith to balance a currently extreme orthodox position ... or whether it is actually opposed to an already balanced Faith and therefore heresy.

The former type actually helps us keep our way, the latter not.
This process is not called "toleration of evil" but "discernment of truth".
The Synods 2014-2015 are a good example of this Catholic discernment process.

And its the Pope who ultimately decides the difference - not "lay experts" who in misguided sentinel hubris are oft to Pontificate thus themselves before the fact methinks.

Our Lady always talks with a child like simplicity.

    We should do likewise.

I am often left scratching my head at your posts, Blue, it is as though you are continually impressed with yourself

I am reminded that knowledge is NOT a virtue.

the devil sees God and quakes, what good does his great knowledge do him? In some ways he is a superb theologian.

Christ talked in a way the smallest child could understand,His Mother too.

    So should we

Padraig I sometimes feel the same with your posts - though I try to examine my own foibles in this regard first before publicly projecting poor motives on to those I do not understand.
Its all to easy to demonise those who do not agree with us isn't it.

One thing I have learned,Blue and that is that silence is its own argument.

    Take it or leave it

That sort of anti-intellectualism would be a Protestant view I am afraid Fatima.

Sure, greater knowledge allows for the possibility of greater vice as well as greater virtue because knowledge can "puffeth up." Knowledge is a virtue (it is also a Gift of the Holy Spirit) but to be valuable it must be in harmony with the other virtues. Knowledge completes and perfects the virtues for a Catholic.

It seems inherent to Catholic faith that a true believer will desire to know better because a more penetrating knowledge of divine matters elicits a greater faith and love than does the avoiding of such difficult pursuits.

I find some of the "spirit led" on MOG seem to believe the two are inherently opposed when in fact they are made to be complimentary. Therefore it seems a limited approach to think that one's lack of deep and ongoing catechetical or theological education/knowledge is somehow helpful or indicative of being more spirit-filled. Likewise to think that Catechetical knowledge by itself means one is close to the Divine is also limited.

A bird surely needs two balanced wings to fly and the stronger they are together the better?

You are correct balance and harmony...like a bird flying.

St Thomas Aquinas, before he died had a vision of God and ceased writing.

When asked why he said all that he wrote was so much hay before the Reality of God.

    Was Thomas anti intellectual?

I think FS has hit the bulls eye with that comment. I am quite sure BH has two healthy wings but only one of them tends to be on show in his posts which is perhaps why he is so misunderstood I believe.
