When I posted the following video in a separate thread, Mac responded with the comment, "absolute disgrace". Although Mac is no lover of Vassula, I was surprised at his response to this particular video. He suggested the matter was worth its own thread so I copy the video again here. I find the little video moving every time I watch it and utterly authentic.

Davidtlg, I had not watched the video on the other thread, because I have felt for years that Vassula is not genuine. Of course I do know that there are those who feel she is genuine. And we all have to make our own mind up in the absence of approval from Rome.

But I do have to say, I was shocked at the contents of the video. It seemed like a very scandalous way to receive Holy Communion. She does not even appear to have been instructed as to how to receive. And where is the mention of confession.

The impression she gives is any old Tom, Dick or Harry can go and receive Holy Communion, and take the Sacred Species away and do whatever they want with it. That is truly disgraceful. And a very bad example to ignorant people out there if they should be led to do the same. God forgive her.

This video makes me more certain this woman is not inspired by the Holy Spirit.

I'm a bit weirded out by her. She sees everyone else taking communion immediately (by mouth or hand) but decides to sneak the host outside? Was she living under a rock her whole life to ask "what is this??" Why was she in a Cathollic Church? Was she "led there" somehow? I don't know her story but she seems.....weird. As though she's trying to APPEAR childlike.

I would not be to quick to judge. She was genuinely confused about what she was doing, then recognizes she received Jesus and finally was confirmed by Jesus himself that he was in joy in her being open to learn the fullness of the truth. Odd, how most Catholics never recognize the true presence of Jesus in the bread, but Vassula did.

The communion made by Vassula was a sacrilege.
Sacrilege does not make Our Lord 'Happy.'

Whoever Vassula was speaking with afterwards was certainly not Jesus.

I beg to differ. What is sacrilege is when those who have been taught communion receive it in sin.

    Modern Catholic Dictionary
by Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J.
SACRILEGE. The deliberate violation of sacred things (to which Vassuala said she was unaware of what it was she had in her hand at the time) . Sacred things are persons, places, and objects set aside publicly and by the Church's authority for the worship of God. The violation implies that a sacred thing is desecrated precisely in its sacred character. It is a sin against the virtue of religion.

Personal sacrilege is committed by laying violent hands on clerics or religious of either sex; by unlawfully citing them before secular courts, i.e., without just cause and without express permission of their ecclesiastical superiors; by unlawfully demanding of them the payment of civil taxes or military service; and by the commission of acts of unchastity by or with a person bound by the public vow of chastity.

Sacred places are violated by sacrilege through defilement, e.g., serious and unjust shedding of blood, as in willful homicide or by putting the sacred place (church or shrine) to unseemly use, e.g., secular trading, acts of debauchery; by grave theft from the Church or consecrated edifice; and by violating the immunity of a place as having the right of sanctuary.

Sacred objects are desecrated by sacrilege whenever something sacred is used for an unworthy purpose. This includes the Mass and the sacraments, along with sacramentals; sacred vessels and church furnishings; and ecclesiastical property. Desecration in each of these areas includes the deliberate invalid reception of the sacraments, simulation of Mass, grave irreverence to the Eucharist; gravely profane use of sacred vessels or vestments; and the unlawful seizure of sacred things or ecclesiastical property.

Sacrilege is many times reprobated in Sacred Scripture, notably in the second book of Maccabees and in the writings of St. Paul. Grave sacrilege in the Old Testament was punishable by death, and in the Catholic Church is considered a mortal sin. (Etym. Latin sacrilegium, the robbing of a temple, the stealing of sacred things.)

  11. Vassula is highly regarded by Fr. Joseph Iannuzzi and many, many priests and bishops, including pope Francis who she met with before and after he became Pope. There is an entire thread on the forum regarding her messages. To answer Mac, indeed Vassula WAS LIVING UNDER A ROCK AND INCREDIBLY IGNORANT in the beginning days. Although she had been Babtized Orthodox, she never went to church. Her interviews are wonderful because it truly comes through how God chose this ignorant soul to show His glory. She didn't even know that there were differences in Christianity! I know MANY people that ignorant. ...it's a shame. Babtized pagans. ....
The messages are wonderful and edifying. Jesus gently took her step by step. Gave me great hope and lovefor the Church and priesthood and hope for unity! !

I think if it was Our Lord guiding her , He would of warned her of the importance of not receiving while in the state of mortal sin.

One of the problems here, I think, is that people have come to a 'view' about Vassula based on many different things and that they cannot see anything past those views. The video shows a straightforward person explaining in a simple way something that had happened about 15 years earlier. I think some of the comments above show an 'Old Testament' view of God which Jesus tried to show was much too limited. With Jesus, Mercy came into the world. I can see now why Pope Francis is such a stumbling block for some Catholics.

To be able to see 'sneakiness' and 'play acting' in Vassula's behaviour is quite an achievement I think. But to see the beauty and honesty of Vassula's behaviour as 'sacrilege' shows a need to come to know the real Jesus.

This video reminded me of something: in our parish, children who prepare for their first communion are shown unconsecrated hosts during a retreat, where they are told how they are made and then they can handle them, look at them and taste them. The parish decided to do this because they noticed that for every 1st communion ceremony, there are always one or more children who take the host and examine it, having never seen one nor tasted one before. That way, during first communion, the host is no longer a mystery and they can focus on the reception of the sacrament.

So Vassula's reaction does seem very child-like and completely normal to me. Also, I'll add that I had the privilege of receiving communion from an Orthodox priest, and the method was explained to us before hand because he knew that Catholics did not know how it was done. As Vassula says, the appearance of the bread and the method of reception is quite different from what we know as Catholics.

David I think her experience would need to be a lot more than 15 years ago I posted a thread back in 2013 regarding my own thoughts on Vassula, (thread below) She was present at the mass that night and she had also done many talks/attended mass well before her visit to St John's in the very early 90's, she would have been very aware back then on what Holy Communion was and how it is to be respected..I am surprised in the easy come easy go way she describes her experience she would know fine well that this would not be acceptable to catholic teaching and its message would be under scrutiny ?? for me its another WINK moment that I described in my original post..

I actually said '15 years earlier' in my post but failed to mention that the recording was made around the year 2000. So Vassula is here recounting what had happened to her around the year 1985/6. Andree, above, explains clearly how she would have viewed everything at that time.

Her messages on her own web site from around 1985/6 and even as far as 1990 express her knowledge of Holy Communion in fact the message below clearly states that she went to her own church whilst also attending a Catholic church for communion and received a slap from her orthodox priest ???

    from http://www.tlig.org/en/messages/563/

    October 17, 1990
Jesus, you have told us in these books many things before they happen, so that when they do happen we may believe. You have told us how you will resurrect my sister Russia, and how You will make an end of her atheism. And look! On the 14th, St Basil's Church in Red Square opened her doors for You! And I, her sister rushed to her that day, to rejoice her feast! But what I got from her was a slap on my face ... Your servant and brother of mine whom I love, struck me. - Your servant refused to bless me, because he said I was going to our brothers, the Catholics, and receiving from their hand Holy Communion.

Vassula's knowledge of Holy Communion obviously changed immediately after the incident of her first reception of it. I'm not sure why a quote from a 1990 message is relevant.

Are you seriously suggesting that people who follow the advice of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and Bishops in various countries have an "Old Testament" view of God because they don't believe that this woman is receiving private revelations from Jesus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vassula_Ryden ?
