Mary O'Connor, from Cork, visited Padre Pio the 1950's and was overcome by the intensity of the event. "He gave me his hands to kiss, he put his hands on my head and he put his hands on my boy," she recollected. "I looked into his face and I got an awful fright. He looked supernatural. He was different from any other living being I have ever seen. He literally shone, and his eyes were remarkable. He was pale-featured, but he had a glowing expression.

"The whole thing had a huge effect on me. I was so startled that I handed over the child to my husband and I ran out of the church. I ran down the hill and I was hysterical. I worried that I had offended God all my life. I felt, 'If God is anything like Padre Pio, how could I have ever offended him?'"

Padre Pio: Irish Encounters with the Saint', by Colm Keane, is published by Capel Island Press and retails for €14.99. Proceeds from the book will be donated to the Capuchin Day Centre for Homeless People

You were blessed Mary. I am praying for you and your family tonight.:)

The first book I ever read about Padre Pio was written by a very, very smart guy indeed Scots/ Irish gentleman who was in charge of the Special Operations Executive (SOE) during the Second World War. Let me see if I can remember...he retired to live in Donegal...

I would say the second best book ever written about the saint I have ever read and I have read quite a few (in English)

Thank you for posting this. I really enjoyed reading Joh McCaffery’s experiences. I never met Padre Pio he died before I would have had a chance to do so. I never really knew about him until I read something about him from a local person whose whole family had a remarkable experience with the saint. I was intrigued but later had reason to be extremely grateful to Padre Pio. My husband was deathly ill many years ago and in the hospital. I was loaned a first class relic of Padre Pio to touch my husband. We prayed the Sacred Heart Novena that PP always prayed and touched the relic to my husband. At 4 in the morning he called me from the hospital. He felt incredible warmth go through his body. He was so moved by the experience. The doctors that morning were amazed. He had had a healing.
I think I need to start asking PP’s intercession once more. Souls rather than bodies. It is the souls in my family that are “ill”. Saint Pio please pray for all of us.

thanks for the prayer. Badly needed. My grandson Dafydd Pio was healed of conginetal heart defect after a novena to Padre Pio last year. He never fails to answer.

Funny enough it is by a Protestant Minister and is a little shocking in ways about some of the events. Wonderful book if you want the real deal. There were some real, real bad dudes after Padre Pio's hide. Especially high Churchmen, they HATED the saint with a diabolic hatred.

    Wonderful thread.

There are a quite a few websites which contain a short list of prophecies that they contribute to Saint Padre Pio. I have read quite a few times that the three days of darkness prophecy was mistakenly contributed to him but does anyone have a valid list of prophecies contributed to this saint? Thank you.

Can anyone help and turn my frown around? :(:)(y)

Are the prophecies on any of the following sites which are contributed to Saint Padre Pio affirmed to be actually from this saint?

I found these on a quick search and they may just be copies of each other but if anyone has any additional insight I would be very grateful. Thank you.
