  1. Knights of Malta row with Vatican over condom programme

"Now the 900-year-old order is refusing to co-operate with a Vatican investigation into his sacking, and warning members that if they speak with Pope Francis's team, they must not contradict the decision by the order to replace Mr Boeselager."

If we want to know which side the Masons support, we only need to watch for the Beeb's spin on the story. Whichever side gets their nod of approval will be the one Catholics should beware of. Then again, they could adopt their traditional, more neutral for them, scathing approach to all things Catholic.

A bit more of an explanation of just where both "sides" are coming from. Perhaps a little humility from the "servants" who actually should want the fairest outcome for a brother is in order....and perhaps even a group that seems to respect their special notice of "sovereignty" could even learn something about what is expected from their other side, that of being a lay "religious" order as well. Which is more highly considered by God?

There could be a bit of irony in this case for Cardinal Burke. This time he is on the side of a group that considers itself to have a special place of sovereignty that allows it to deny "interference" from Church authority....at least in this test of a case. When he was in St. Louis he was the one in Church authority which challenged a decades old sense of independence of a particular parish that had been allowed for generations to use its collections for its own needs and felt that it could serve those needs better than giving their offerings to the diocese as he now commanded they do. I believe that a lot of the character of the parish was due to a particular ethnic background with its own traditions that had been left alone in that comfort for quite some time. When there was no longer any give left from this Church authority the parish moved to separate and unfortunately moved to take on an illegitimate priest for its services. There was a lot to learn in that case when it comes to the clash of human nature's habits and weaknesses and perhaps a lack of various necessary virtues to work things out rather than, at least all at once, to command a new way of life for a parish that had been allowed for perhaps too long to live its own traditions. Division due to using "privileges" be it power in one case or "eliteness" of an established order in another should I would think be brought down to the main concern and that should be unity in Christ who literally begged that all love one another as He loved the apostles and disciples, forgiving faults et al, and avoiding what He absolutely deplored.....division. His body is now splintered into a million pieces while all call themselves His followers!

Pope ordered Card. Burke to clean out Freemasons from the Knights of Malta

It has emerged that during a meeting between Pope Francis and Cardinal Burke in November about the scandal of the Knights of Malta distributing condoms and oral contraceptives in Africa, the Holy Father instructed Cardinal Burke to "clean out" Freemasonry from the order. The Holy Father gave this order to Cardinal Burke in his role as patron of the Knights of Malta by papal appointment.

The Vatican journalist Edward Pentin revealed details of Pope Francis's concerns about the influence of the Freemasons on the Knights of Malta:

Hopes that the contraceptive scandal would be addressed came on Nov. 10, when Cardinal Burke was received in private audience by Pope Francis. During that meeting, the Register has learned, the Pope was “deeply disturbed” by what the cardinal told him about the contraceptive distribution. The Pope also made it clear to Cardinal Burke that he wanted Freemasonry “cleaned out” from the order, and he demanded appropriate action. The concern was followed up by a Dec. 1 letter to Cardinal Burke, in which the Register has learned that the Holy Father underlined the cardinal’s constitutional duty to promote the spiritual interests of the order and remove any affiliation with groups or practices that run contrary to the moral law.

And a lot of "officially" approved groups ought to be looked into as well....."Knights of the Holy Sepulchre"; "Legatus" with its membership requirements for businessmen, etc.

Perhaps this Pope is a bit "wilier" than expected. He both wishes to cleanse this order of moral misconduct but at the same time not perhaps to let the "powers that be" there to use such excuses to rid themselves of the otherwise faithful (the ousted one being the son of a man who participated in the secret move to get rid of Hitler), while perhaps permitting Freemasons to remain hidden there.
