I want to see that proof Padraig but the devil is an angel of light anyway so does not either ha ha. I figured as much on the forum but as a weak spiritual babe as I was, I did wonder a bit about it but it never bothered me for long. I was being as you would say on your side of the pond, "cheeky".

I would like to point out that NO ONE on this forum has said that Pope Francis is an anti-pope. I think we all agree he is validly elected.

Lol Padraig I guessed myself the name may already have been in use but didn't want to be the only one to ask lol. Had I thought for a second Padraig you had a Cloven foot or horns I wouldn't have joined. Like I said I can see the wonderful things this site has to offer :)

You can not however see photos of the area from which my tail might grow. You must take that on trust.:);)

Please, Padraig, could you at least freeze the thread even for a little while. Today was a depressing one for me. I visited an elderly relative in a nursing home as a lot of the residents were gating to say the rosary (sadly, my relative wasn't among them). Envisaging myself in their shoes some time in the future, I wondered whether I would be saying the rosary on my own, possibly hiding my beads under the bed covers like I used to hide the romance novels when I was a young teenager. The world's in a mess and nobody seems to really care, people are full of suspicion and hate, even our Church seems to be in flux, and I'm tired trying to make sense of it.

I know that I could ignore the thread but I'm drawn to it like a magnet despite everything that could be said having been said already. We're all Catholics here. We all love Jesus and His mother. We all want what's best for the Church and the world. None of us is in a position to have any impact except in our own lives. I doubt very much that any of us will be telling people that the Church has had a change of heart on matters surrounding marriage, and I certainly won't be rushing to a Lutheran Church (even if I knew where to find one) to receive communion. So, could we give it a rest even for a week or two and instead let Jesus and the Holy Spirit sort out the Pope while we pray, hope and thank God that Brian is on the mend.

Thank you both, sincerely, for your prayers and kindness.

Interestingly, we're staying with and taking care of my mom, and found a 10:00am daily mass just a stone's throw away at the local Catholic nursing home.

We saw our former paster there at mass, who baptized our son who is now in the Norbertines. My wife took a close friend there two weeks ago who is also his cousin to visit him. She had to track him down in a dining hall. He was sitting at a table reserved for priests in residence, and thought she recognized the Franciscan across from him, as we had seen him speaking at many conferences earlier in our marriage.

Our former pastor confirmed it was Fr. Mike Scanlon, TOR, past president of Franciscan University of Steubenville and frequent guest of Mother Angelica. We've seen him in attendance at most of their daily masses since in their small chapel there.

    It's a small world.

Please keep him in your prayers.

(The TOR's Mother House and infirmary are in our diocese in Loretto PA on the Schwab estate - wealthy Pittsburgh industrialist Charles Schwab's sister was a discalced Carmelite so he built them a new monastery just down the road - and when they need more advanced care they send them to the local Catholic nursing home, which is actually very good.)

    Brian,

Thanks for letting us know. Fr. Mike Scanlon had a great influence on me at the 1984 Conference. A wonderful friar. You're both in my prayers, as is your son.:)

Cool! We were at a conference there in the early 1990s, and met Fr. Groeschel. He mentioned he sends men on 40 day retreats to his dear friend "Silvan" during one of his talks.

When we got home and visited our spiritual director, Fr. Silvan, a Passionist, we asked whether he knew Fr. Groeschel, he said yes, Benedict was a close personal friend who had sent many of his men there for 40 day retreats.

When our son Mike did his 40 day retreat with Fr. Silvan when he was 17, he discerned his vocation while he was there. He's with the Norbertines now in California. He took the name frater Silvan :0) and the Norbertines were thrilled.

Fr. Silvan had preached their week long annual retreat in 1997, and many there feel it was the best retreat they ever attended, and many from there completed 40 day retreats back here with him. They taped all his talks in 1997, and my son found them recently in their library, and listened to all of them to great effect. Fr Silvan passed away about 2 years ago. My spiritual director now is a Benedictine monk; Fr. Silvan was his spiritual director when he was a Novice.

Cardinal Burke offered their annual retreat last summer before our son got there, but he just finished this year's week long retreat offered by Bishop Athanasius Schneider. (I have a severe case of retreat master envy ;-)

    Again, it's a small (Catholic)world.

Yes I am going to give this a rest for a while. I think we have done enough talking for a little while about this matter. No good talking it to death so I am going to freeze this thread. I have no doubt the subject wil lresuface though in the near future. How could it not?

But sometimes in fact all the time getting into a storm with high winds like this fills the sails a little and makes us travel faster. It's the same things in families, I supect. OK maybe they have a little fight or a little bringing things out in the open but it may draw them together. The things that challenge us most can be the things that fire us on the most.

Will there be disagreements in heaven? I suppose maybe not. But the Irish in me kinda hopes there are a few.

Still I don't think that the forum should be a permanent Gettysburg, so lets all give it a rest for a week or two. Maybe even a few weeks, shall we?

Pope Francis raised eyebrows this week by choosing a Protestant theologian, Marcelo Figueroa, to edit a new Argentine edition of L’Osservatore Romano.

I'm sorry. Could you repeat that? A Protestant theologian to edit the main Argentenian Catholic voice to the world?

    A Protestant?
At least Pope Francis from the picture looks like he's thinkng to himself, goodness what way are they going take this on the Mother of God Forum?:D:D;)

A Protest on a main editorial postion on the main Newspaper of the Catholic Church .

    Right.

Dare I ask? Would I be a Pharisee?

    Would I be judgemental?

Would I be nasty and holier than thou to ask the question, what would be her postiion on issues like sexual perversion, or abortion, or divorce..or so on and so on...
If she agrees with divorce for instance how can she defend Church teachings on the subject? How can she advocate things she herself does not believe in , like I dare say, Humane Vitae?

Not I suppose that it makes much difference since many of the Popes closest allies, the Cardinals he is appointing to the most senoir postions in the Church, are not Catholics either.

I guess he should shun the Rabbi too eh? Heaven forbid he should include good reliable friends who are trustworthy that he has known for a long time. Because we know that ALL Catholics are on his side and NEVER report any falsehood and are trustworthy when it comes to media right????

If I and people like myself did not speak out, the very stones themselves would rise from the ground to say it.

When we look up to skies to see fire from heaven fall down to consume the Earth let us at least have the consolation of knowing that when the apostacy from the Faith we began that brough about this fire ,we at least , in our own small way spoke out against it.

When the good go sour it is an evil.

When that , which was supposed to be the Holiest , the Bride of Christ turns to apostasy it is an abomination in the Sight of God and cries out to the very heavens fro vengeance. The very angels stand appalled , but the sheep blinded by wicked ,Jadas Pastors remains blind.

But the Cleansing Fire from Heaven will come. Rome itself will be no more.

The Church was meant to be the Bride of Christ, they are attempting however to wed her to the World.

    As I say, abomination.
