Nonsense. You cannot credibly make baseless assertions about the pope's "orthodoxy" any longer without first refuting these theologians.

Oy. So now we're caving to the Communists, who mockingly "consecrate" bishops who are living lives of grave personal sin?

But we'll be assured this is all perfectly orthodox and easy to understand crystal clear language and we are just attacking him with our faulty understandings and have no right to say anything...it would be laughable if it were so scandalous and sacrilegious.

"In China, among the one hundred and nine Catholic bishops there are eight who have been consecrated at the behest of the communist authorities and who have never received the pope's approval, thereby incurring excommunication, a couple of them with children and lovers.

"But for none other than these eight, by the end of this summer or at the latest before the end of the jubilee Francis is ready to perform a spectacular gesture: a pardon."

I guess Brian, I think there is a middle ground between the two extreme's that both you and Joe exhibit. You cannot say anything good about Pope Francis and Joe cannot see anything wrong or at least questionable about some of his statements. I feel, like Mark Mallett's blogs have said, that our Pope is and has done good and holy things for the church and like Mark and others we have also seen where statements have been made by our pope that deserve further clarification by him so as not to lead to greater confusion in regards to unchanging doctrines of the church. On your other point, I don't think I "constantly bemoan" pope "bashers", as I have not spoken on this in months and only did so a few times from initial statements our pope has made. But you can and will continue on as you feel fit to do.

Good. Because I've reluctantly come to believe that every time this pope has said or done what otherwise would be good and holy things for the Church, it's to disarm good Catholics, calm our natural instincts and soften up the beachhead for the next assault, which is only hours or at most days away.

It keeps faithful Catholics in their pews, but doubting their own accurate assessments and questioning their Faith and sanity.

It has become too predictable and repetitive of a pattern to ignore or remain silent. It obviously serves a purpose.

I've been there, first defending the pope 100%, then occupying the "safe," "hedge your bets" middle ground.

Then it was proven to me how this pope had outright lied about his conversation with Cardinal Burke, and that Burke agreed he liked to travel and would do well with the Malta folks.

Not only did Burke never say this, the "conversation" was made up out of whole cloth by the pope because it simply never happened; Burke was not contacted by the pope.

If a pope can lie so well and so easily about a conversation with a Cardinal that never occurred, he cannot be trusted in other matters.

The only nonsense here is yours. The pope made this statement. I do not need thologians to understand it. Neither do most good Catholics.

Most good Catholics understand the clear meaning of what he said, and as such realize the blatant blasphemy.

It takes superhuman mental gymnastics to explain that away.

I don't know if you're just pretending to be this dense, or you honestly are this dense.

Regardless, you're still lovable, but you're really being obtuse.

You say the pope can lie. You can lie too. I trust the pope. I do not trust you. Everything you post offends the exercise of his office. So now on top of calling him a heretic you call him a liar. You have proved nothing.
talk about the pot calling the kettle black. You call the pope a liar and you condemn me for the sin of pride and in your arrogance
And your views should be dismissed as the musings of myopia and malice. Your pathetic and insulting attempt to manipulate me into retraction will not work. You are the one who owes apology but like Padraig you probably cannot even pronounce it. Try 'sorry'. That may be easier for you. But I doubt it.

That is simply wrong. You thankfully find no reflection in the hearts of mist Catholics.

As ever you are the abusive one. But keep on biting. I can take your attacks. Your insults. Now you add 'obtuse' and 'dense' and yiu call me a liar by accusing me of pretence. Lets see how much more Padraig will permit. I am sure he will actually encourage you if not by actual comment then by silence.

No complex here. That suggests it is not real. Most readers will see you are persecuting me. I say bring it on. You accuse me of lashing out and immaturity simply as smokescreen for your own faults and offense. As I have said before, you come across as a schoolyard bully and as one of those sarcastic teachers who caused untold harm to children in their care. But despite your nasty comnentary you are not dealing with a child here. I will not let you away with your detraction of the pope. And I doubt if a Power higher than that of Padraig will allow it to continue much longer.

People should consider when they are posting if they are starting to chase each others tails.

    It is pretty pointless.
